I learnt this years ago. I was a huge nerd and bought and read all those Survival Handbooks. You learn so much from those, I love them. How to get out of quicksand, how to collect water, how to basically dodge a bullet, how to kick down a door, run from a mob, get out of a trunk, even how to control a runaway camel.

This makes me feel a lot better. I have nightmares about being in a car sinking in water all the time so I`m really paranoid about it. D:

why would u aim for the bottom corners...there is a good amount of window u can`t see thats inside your door, and since the window curves it makes no sense to put force on the edges, when the center would be the easiest to break

"Don`t aim for the center of the side window... THe bottom two corners are the shatter points"

This is something that bothered me as well.

one of the many reasons i want to drive a motorcycle

1. you look awesome (or a douche depending)
2. you dont have to climb out when submerged in water.
3.you get thrown from the wreckage (joke)

"Myth Busters proved all of this information to be 100% correct."

I would never have guessed that to escape from a sinking car you would need to actually get out!

All those wasted years playing escape the room games taught me to collect as many items from under the seat and ashtray to later assembly them into a tool to help me escape, who knew it was this easy!

a 15 year old girl in my town went off road after big rain into a drainage ditch 2 days ago. she called her mom and friends and police saying the water was rising and she was stuck. Cops didn`t find her car for an hour. Obviously she didn`t make it

Yeah... that sounded better in my head.

P.S. Will probably come in handy, cars should be sold together with one of those window-breaker things, seems like a good idea.

so here is the deal...
The front windshields on a car crack just as easily as the side windows however they don`t shatter because they have a sheet of laminate melted in between two sheets of glass. Soooooo this means that trying to break the front windshield would be more difficult because you would have to crack the window and then push through the laminate...So it actually is easier to get out of the side window

Read (b) again. Windscreens are DESIGNED to shatter when a rock hits them.

"Not only ARE they, they are deliberately made to be EASILY breakable, so that (a) you can get someone out of a car in a crash, and (b) people don`t drive around with hundreds of obscuring stone chips in the windscreens."

Yeah, but what would be easier, breaking through the windshield that has plastic in the middle, (this is so it doesn`t shatter when rocks hit it), or the side window, with no plastic in between. Yeah, that`s what I thought..

what the frack did he think i was going to do? really? open windows? wow.
oh, and remove seatbelts BEFORE attempting to exit the vehicle. this guys a bleeding genius.

It`s just means that the windshield would be much harder to break with something in your car, so don`t waste your time with it.

The windows of modern cars are all laminated and really strong so you won`t see a fist shattering the glass like in the movies.. Especially submerged.

"Panic is a powerful thing, things that seem obvious in a calm state aren`t so obvious in a calm state. Like if someone held a gun to your head and said they would kill you unless you told them what 7x5 is in less than five seconds, you just might not make it."

dude, it took me longer than five seconds to figure out wut 7x5 was, and there isnt a gun to my head.

my post was cut off...

Also, Mythbusters did this, and they have some counterpoints I believe. Such as if you don`t have a glass breaking tool and can`t open the window beforehand, don`t waste your breath by exerting yourself and trying to break it open with an elbow, that will require more air to breath and you`ll be able to hold your breath for a shorter amount of time. Just try and get calm, and try the door handle every so often if you do end up submerged. It may not open as soon as the car seems submerged (and you are too), so don`t panic if that happens either. Just wait and check to see that the door`s not locked and try it every so often, it will open eventually and you`ll be able to swim to safety. If you are waiting for the pressure to even out, you could always take notice of which way any bubbles are traveling when you`re still stuck in the car, too, to prevent panic once you exit the car and are running out of breath.

"what part of this wasnt obvious?
as soon as you hit the water roll down your window and get out.
if you cant manage to remember something that obvious then you dont deserve to live.
but if you still want to, break the window.
if you cant manage either then i highly suggest you give up on life." (cut-off due to space)

let the car fill with water, feel it covering you completely. doesnt the cool water feel good?
no? then just open the door

let me guess, wait for the interior to fill up with water and do something drastic...like open the door? is that complicated? it really wouldnt be hard to hold your breath long enough for said event.
