Bathtub IV from Keith Loutit on Vimeo.
This is all 100% "real," but there are some new techniques and a cool animated, 3-D effect.

This isn`t a difficult effect to create.

A mixture of a low framerate and the technique of blurring specific points to create a "fake/toy" look is a rather old concept.

I did the same thing as a project in college back in 2002.

I wasn`t really impressed with the video (though the technology was impressive) until the guy gets rescued and hugs his kids. It is amazing how much the human factor can distract from the pure beauty of a scene, and at the same time be wholly beautiful by itself.

We can make fake video look real, so now we have to make real video look fake?

meh, was cool the first time i saw it in still photos. Then it was cool the first time I saw it applied to a video. Now I see it and wonder why people want to make real video look fake?

Holy crap, it IS real footage! It had me completely fooled. Just watched it on HD and the detail is too great to be anything other.

Oh yeah, and I went to the artist`s site as well, he`s got a whole bunch of similar videos.

They do look like toys. :O

I loved the part when the fisherman was reunited with his family. It made me awwww.

Getting the appearance of them being tiny figurines is easy: boost the contrast/vibrancy and blur the foreground and background a little, but leave the middleground in focus.

We need a movie or television series completely shot like this NOW.

i agree with the "some water is blue" perspective. the greeness is from an abundance of algae. theres less algae in some places

It`s called "tilt shifting"

there`s a technique used to get that miniature effect.

I read about it here :p

VV I think they meant their photography techniques produce an animated effect (i.e. it looks animated).

"This is all 100% `real,` but there are some new techniques and a cool animated, 3-D effect."

Then it`s not 100% real...period.
