@Ani187... Google "industrial lathes" My shop got ours from grizzly.com a nice little company.
@JJRed88... Same here. Wood shavings in a machine meant for metal is a no-no! I just hope they used a wood-cutting insert.
@Bulbsaur... I don`t know your dad. But I can say "YES"
@Frogtango... That was a metal lathe. Notice the fluid spouts and metal shavings in the rear of the machine.

I love this one. Sometimes small things like this can take the edge off a dull day.

This reminds me of the time I got bored at work and used the air lines to make a mini cannon. I shot pencils over 50yds (45m). Good times.

I like both kinds.

Wooden: They have a personal feel about them, a dull tip can have a softer line and fill, easier to erase repeatedly.

Mech.: A precise line every time, a bit heartless, but never dulling. A good writer`s pencil and one for a detail-stricken artist.
