A thorough debunking of some of the silliest facts attributed to science. Like the "fold paper 7 times" myth.

"Lol, Mythbusters disproved the paper one. They just got a HUGE piece of paper and managed to fold it either 8 or 9 times without the help of anything but themselves. Then they used a steamroller to fold it like 4 more times hahaha."

ya but its not proportional to an 8.5x11 peice of paper

"Britney Gallivan proved it wrong by folding a piece of thing gold leaf more than 7 times with the use of tweezers."

Nice use of your time /sarcasm, but gold leaf isn`t paper.

"Seven hours of folding later, they had [the toilet paper] folded into 12 folds."

Once again, not paper. And I believe the original myth was an 8x11 sheet of paper.

"False Fact: One dog year is equal to seven human years"

Whoa, they states the incredibly obvious!

In order to calculate dog years, thanks to me spiffily watching Animal Planet on rare occasions, is simple. The first two years are equivalent to twenty-five human years and every year after that counts for four human years. (:

I knew about the McDonalds one being wrong.
Although I can see why people would be tricked by it, since if everyone ate there regularly we`d all be too fat to move, let alone start a war.

For #5, onetime someone changed the milk to 99 cents and some non-nice individual tried to coerce me into giving it to him for that price. I calmly grabbed the little plastic numbers and made the milk $99.99 and said "you still want it for what the shelf says? It`s $4.39 or get the drat out." I haven`t seen him again.

"False Fact: One dog year is equal to seven human years"

Shouldn`t it be the other way around? One human year is equal to seven dog years?

Oh, and the whole, folding paper more than seven times, watch mythbusters, they go over it. SHE USED GOLD LEAF AND TOILET PAPER, so not the same thing as normal paper. Plus, she folded it lengthwise, the fact is that you fold it repeatedly in half and it gets rotated each time between folds so it isn`t the same folding technique.

"why? why cant you have a really thin really long piece of paper?"

That wouldn`t make a difference, the thickness expontentially increases.

"Um...what about the Revolutionary war?
The United States and the United Kingdom BOTH have McDonald`s, AND they`ve gone to war."

The concept relies on the fact that McDonalds had been invented, and thus is an indictation of economic strength. The idea suggests that countries of more powerful economic structure tend to go to war with poorer countries. The Myth actually makes sense, however, the fact that McDonalds is so widely spead these days, means that it is no longer really a sign of economic power.

Wrong dude, I suggest you check out Mythbusters Episode 72, Grant folded an ordinary piece of paper 8 times by hand, and Jamie & Adam were able to fold a sheet 11 times using a steamroller.

Folding a paper more than 7 times is meant for newspaper I believe, and that weight of paper. Of course thinner paper will change the result, as will thicker "paper". Cardstock anyone?

While it`s true Nasa did not invent the dustbuster the claim you don`t need to vacuum in a vacuum is remarkably shortsighted and demonstrates either a lack of awareness of what a vacuum is, a lack of understanding of the US space program, or a sad attempt to be funny.

mike-

You`re probably right. But the way they worded that sentence made it seem like no two countries that have mcdonalds have EVER gone to war. If he meant today, he should have said so. :P

Penguin = I thought he meant had McDondalds when they had the war. I could be wrong about that, but I know they didnt have McD`s during the Revolutionary war.

I`m pretty sure that the majority of the countries that participated in those two wars have McDonald`s today.

Fact number 2: No two countries with McDonald’s franchises have ever gone to war.

(key word here: ever)

They mentioned Russia and Georgia going to war. They mentioned Israel and Lebanon having some sort of conflict.

Um...what about the Revolutionary war?
The United States and the United Kingdom BOTH have McDonald`s, AND they`ve gone to war.
How can they forget that one? DUHR.

folding paper 7 times is with a regular paper sheet used for printing- not gigantic toiletpaper or gold leaf.

Male 8,302
Well of course they are disproved if you MISQUOTE them, or get the `fact` wrong in the first place. #1, for instance, "The Great Wall of China is the only manmade thing that can be seen from space" is a total misquote. It should be "the only thing that can be seen from the space between Cho Lin`s Laundry and Hoo`s House of Woks"
