I think a child has much bigger priorities when growing up. The dad is pushing him way too hard.

The lifting of weights isn`t to bad, although not the best hobby to have, what concerned me the most was his poor form in the squat, making his back do the majority if the work, he needs to practice form if he will ever want to lift heavy weights

if the kid feels his father wants him to do this the kid may not have the will to say no. lest he disapoint his dad. alot of the time ive noticed kids that go into sports and whatnot dont have much of any freewill or are under the rule of overzealous parents so will has nothing to do wiht it

All you people that seem sooooo concerned over this kids development and wanting the father punished are being idiots.

If the kid didn`t want to do it, He would quit.
Quit being judgmental self-righteous ideologues.

Being dead serious and this is not a joke when i was his age I was lifting more than that. When I was 6 I was helping my granpa carry around 80 sacks of feed.

But now I can leg press around 2200lbs and bench alot, I have my weight machine maxed out at 350 and I lift it without much trouble.

That poor child is going to have so many problems with his body when he gets older. I think adults take weight lifting too far sometimes. I would never let my son do this. His little body isn`t even done developing yet, why push it past it`s limits?

I`m sorry, but that dad is an non-nice individual, he`s pushing his kid too hard. That is not good for that kid. On the second lift you could see that his butt touched the floor, that can not be good on his back! He`s probably going to have problems for life...

I don`t want anyone questioning my parenting when I have kids, and I won`t question his. This of course is child abuse withheld.

Is that... good for him?
It wouldn`t bug me so much if the dad wasn`t so... "Living through him"-ish. That`s the vibe I got. But if the boy really likes it, good for him, I guess.

What`s wrong with the parenting?

What should the kid be doing instead, then, hmm?

Personally, I wish that my parents had forced me into more things other than just music when I was little. For instance, art or sports. There`s nothing wrong with giving your child a hobby so long as it isn`t harmful.

Oh what? You think this is harmful?

Sure, it -could- be harmful, but take in mind that if done correctly, weight lifting is one of the most hazard-free sports you can do.

If anybody wants to talk about growth plate damage, then talk about contact sports.

"one of my good freinds started working out in fith grade about, at around age ten, he did 500 push ups everyday and night, he has only grown 3 inches in about 7 years, hes only 5`5"."

Oh yeah? Well one of my friends ate a coughdrop once and he dropped dead.

So obviously coughdrops make EVERYONE dead.

Idiot...

Anyone remember that other kid that was a bodybuilder at age 7...8...9...? He looked like a freak. I think he`s in his teens now. At least this little guy looks normal. Good for him.

I don`t agree with him lifting competitively at his age..maybe not even lifting at all.

With that said 2x body weight isn`t bad, but it isn`t super great. In my lifting days I was squatting at LEAST 2x body weight...a top competitor in powerlifting should be squatting like 3x-4x body weight if not more...and yes I`ve seen it done

That kids dad is a little douchenozzle for pushing his kid into something like that. The kid is obviously just trying to live up to his dads "high" expectations. If I saw that dad on the street I`d definately put some since into him. Crap like this makes me angry.

Now this is a prime example of living vicariously through your children. The kid seemed happy but that can`t be safe, especially considering how far the father wanted to push the son. I wonder what happens if it`s too hard in their living room? No judge there to tell them to stop. Spooky.

I thought it was going to be that Indian dude`s kid... you know the guy that claimed he had to have sex 15 times a day and could lift 3000kgs or something but couldn`t show anyone as he was worried he`d hurt someone (I`m sure someone will find the link after i mention this) - didn`t he say his dad was super strong too?!

But nooo... some kid lifting 40kgs... Gotta say, that`s not bad - i know full-grown adults that weigh less (albeit short, skinny chinese - (small frames)) :-)

Aren`t you not supposed to go weight lifting until you`re a certain age? My volleyball coach wouldn`t let us go weightlifting in 3rd grade when we asked... But it might have been because he didn`t want to have to supervise us in the weightroom...

...wow...impressive skills for a little dude. However, I`d back it off a bit, I mean him lifting weights at that age is good enough, I wouldn`t push him any further...

But that`s just me.
