They turned to another guy. A guy who...

Who what? A guy who what?! OH! How I hate the cliffhanger at the end!

Years ago, when I was working in a game arcade, a guy tried to do this to me, this exact con, luckily when he tried to rush me, I slowed him down, recounted the money and told him where to go. So when handling cash, as a rule, I never let a person rush me, because there are people out there trying to con you just like this.

I think that if the lady didn`t go "I already gave you that 10," then none of that scam would of happened.

If I was that lady I would of said "You gave me 19." and hand him back his 10, because who would get thw 10 in his left hand and put it on the bottom of the stack in his right hand in like 3 seconds? I mean really.

Any cashier who actually gives a crap about their job would say "I already gave you a $10" but most cashiers don`t. My buddy used to do this trick to get a free $10 - you have an accomplice pay for something with a $20 that has a message written on it ("Happy birthday from Uncle Steve") or a corner torn off. Then you pay for something with a $10, and when you get your change, insist that you paid with a $20 "That my Uncle Steve gave me for my birthday" or produce the torn corner and say "see, you have the $20 that is missing this little piece" - most cashiers don`t care enough about their place of work to argue.

I worked at a grocery store one time and this a*s of a dude walked in an bought just a few items (under $10) and he handed me a $10 bill so I handed him his few bucks in change and then he`s like "I gave you a $100" and I was like "what the f*ck, no way" so I opened my drawer and showed him that if he had given me a $100 and I thought it was a $10, it would be right on top of my $10 stack...it wasn`t..plus we were trained that when we see $50s and $100s we have to use the counterfeit marker.

Dude gets pissed cause he thinks I cheated him $90 or so and tells my manager. My manager pulls me off the register and counts my drawer..I`m off by maybe a couple cents...

I don`t know if he knowingly tried to rip me off or actually thought he handed me $100...he showed me his wallet with a bunch of $100s so he might have.

acmoore: In that situation, what you say is "exactly how funking stupid do you think I am?" and then get her kicked out by the bouncers/refuse any of their bets.

At least, that`s what I did when I worked in a bar/bookies.

I call BS on that JimboH.

Men chase women until women catch men. So your theory is highly implausible.

People running cash registers are sadly very easy to trick (in general)often due to the repetition of their jobs. Back in ye ol` college days my roommates had a trick they would pull with success on cashiers to get a free case of beer in plain view of the cashier, and even telling the cashier it was there. They used a similar method of overloading the cashier with too much info/making them keep track of too much stuff and thusly losing track of the beer.
(I won`t explain the process, but it shocked me how often it would work.)
I`m not all that surprised by this one.

I kind of want to try that... you could always say "I got confused" rather than it being an obvious scam.

I love Penn and Teller. I would be tricked easily too. I`d imagine it`s hard not to just feel pressured to go quickly and miscount the money.

it was one of those moments where you realise something is wrong and by the time you realise what they`ve done they`re gone

One of my previous employers wouldn`t let us exchange money (10 ones for a $10 bill) for that reason.

that lady was easily fooled, i realized what the guy had done. people at work try that all the time ive gotten pretty good at keeping track, or if i cant follow i tell them they have to slow down, and i always count before i give out change.

ElDavo I think Teller prefers to reamain silent, only occasionally speaking. Narration would be too much for him.

Thats why banks/exchanges normaly count how much you give them twice before even giving you a penny.

Someone once tried that on me. I am fortunately good with math/money, and also pay attention to my peripheral vision.
It ended with my fist in his face.

Blacksun, with grammar skills like that, you`ll never be able to con someone, let alone get your point across.
