What a screw-up. What happened to her so that she was drunk, going six times the legal limit, while underaged for both of those things as well as pregnant? >.>

"If drinking age is 15, and driving age is 15, and she`s 14...
Compared to most of the US: Drinking age 21, driving age 16."

i hate my country ->drinking age:18 driving age:18

Just so you know on two points. Dakkar is absolutely right about the .02 limit if you are under 21, oddly enough my replacement license came in the mail today and that fact was stated on a piece of paper it was stuck to

Also, you can still be under .08 and get a DUI... If a cop pulls you over for drunk suspicion and your BAC is .05, you will most likely still get that wonderful DUI on your record. Safe drinking people :)

I thought it meant speed limit... 90 in a 15?

Oh well...

DuckBoy, you fail to mention the bad parts of being drunk illegally, as well as being drunk while pregnant (not so good for baby).

And Asspenny, that`s a good way to think about it, to be honest. Don`t drink until you die. Don`t drink until you kill someone (ie drink and drive). Other than that w/e.

Why can`t we all be more like New Zealand. I would much rather live in a cool town like Whangarei than mundane Aurora, IL (and yes, it`s the same town that Wayne`s World takes place in... whoopie.)

Relatively it`s not that bad.
If drinking age is 15, and driving age is 15, and she`s 14...
Compared to most of the US: Drinking age 21, driving age 16.

Who has obtained alcohol before their legal age of consumption?

The only bad part of this is that she`s pregnant, and the right under it, is she was driving drunk, and right under that, she was driving.

"So in relative terms she wasn`t that awful drunk, but way too drunk for her age, to be driving, and to be pregnant."

So Dakkar, what`s the correct age for drunk driving? :P

My uncle, a cop, was giving me a ride once when a call came over the radio to attend an accident near where we were. When we arrived, we saw a car had hit 3 power poles in a row, SHEARING THEM COMPLETELY OFF, before becoming a U-shaped metal thing wrapped around the 4th pole. Poles are 50m apart, and made from tough wood. The driver said he`d been doing 60 kmph (about 35 miles) and kept insisting it loudly and abusively, despite the evidence of our eyes and the power poles. We took a blood alcohol reading and he was over 0.40, the legal limit is 0.05, so he was 8 times the limit at least. He died later that day of alcohol poisoning or injuries sustained in the accident, nobody cared which. All agreed he was a Class One F-Wit. It sounds nasty and uncaring, but cmon, insisting you were doing 60 when you`ve sheared off 3 power poles? Most cars woould be hard-pressed to shear one.

i remember my friend in LT had reached a BAC of .48 once, thankfully he wasnt driving, but he was walking around being an idiot and ended up being arrested since he wasnt of legal age to drink, (its 18 there and he was 17 at the time). After spending the night in jail his BAC was still .08 in the morning

Thanks for bringing that up dilldog, I was under the impression that the 0.08 limit was a nationwide mandate, but it must just be the minimum limit for some states.

Well that was a much easier conversion than I had thought. So 150 mcg is 150 micrograms of alochol, and BAC is measured in milligrams of alcohol / deciliter. Move the decimal point down three spots and the limit for people from 15-20 yrs in New Zealand is 0.015 BAC, a bit more stringent than the US.

Her actual BAC was 0.0828, which if she were of the legal drinking age in the U.S. would just barely be in the DUI range. So in relative terms she wasn`t that awful drunk, but way too drunk for her age, to be driving, and to be pregnant.

No the legal limit is 0.02 BAC, I ran into the law before and I know this for a fact.

Everyday substances contain alcohol, mouthwash being the most referenced and usually the most encountered. However, you would need to be rinsing with a rather large quantity of mouthwash to be above 0.02. Non-alcoholic beers also contain a very very low percentage of alcohol, yet it is still legal for anyone under 21 to drink because it would be a feat to get above 0.02 on near-beer.

Its just a safeguard so kids cannot get pegged for underages and DUIs because they wanted minty fresh breath or had the urge to drink the bile that is O`Douls.

Well, the legal limit for anyone under 21 in America is 0.02 BAC, which will get you a DUI if you get pulled over.

I`m not sure if the conversion from BAC to mcg will yield 0.02 = 150, but if it does, that means she had a BAC of 0.12, which is a DUI (0.08 is the limit) for anyone over 21 in America, but not terribly so. A rough calculation figures a female at 15, she had about 4 - 5 drinks in one, maybe two hours.

Of course, the only reason this is getting headlines is because she is pregnant, and one drink is too much in that case.
