Please clarify. As soon as I can argue using more than three points, what will occur?
As soon as you can argue using more than three points.
"something tells me sixclaws13 uses a mac, anyone else get that vibe?"
I hate Macs. I use Linux. You fail on all accounts.
"I have no lack of evidence."
I specifically said *objective* evidence. You have only *subjective* evidence. Please tell me you can appreciate the distinction.
I have no lack of evidence. He has proven himself to me. And He doesn`t hide, you just refuse to see him.
You don`t need my help, you need His.
"Your conversion experience saved you from ambiguity, from fear of the unknown, fear of disorder. Fear of Death."
I`m atheist and I have no such fears. Ask me why.
Sorry the fear thing was a quote i forgot to put quotes around. I was responding with the CS lois bit.
And eyes open now answer my question.
You should read C.S. Louis, the bible by no means calls you to stop thinking, any intellectual who doesn`t have great respect for C.S. Louis is probably just biased because he was a brilliant man, along with hundreds of scientists that have contributed to where we are today.

Guilt, Shame and Fear sure are powerful weapons, aren`t they Religion-Bear?"

Delusions can be delightful little things, Sixclaws. I don`t dispute that. What I`m asking is that you provide something that suggests what you are experiencing is not a delusion. Until you do, you have no justification to claim that I am a slave to myself for not participating of your beliefs.
"God has no obligation to prove his existence to us."
Is this what you tell yourself to reconcile the lack of objective evidence of a god, that he`s hiding from us? I wasn`t requiring proof from God, I was requiring proof of God from you. I`m making the point that you cannot provide such proof and that no honestly rational basis exists for belief but rather that belief is culturally-determined.
"some direct or trace evidence that is not tied to personal experience"
Trust me, if you are blessed enough to experience it, it will be enough.
When you`re ready to give up your human traits of pride and conceit and willing to admit that there`s something more, something that you just can`t grasp, find someone to talk to. There`s a lot of incompetence out there that you have to look out for, but there`s also a lot of good people who would love to help you.
I`m often accused of being too narrow-minded and set in my ways, but in my defense I strenuously object (wink) that I am indeed susceptible to having my mind changed. There are conditions, of course, but to that I would argue my conditions are more reasonable than someone of opposing view. A faithful Christian would only abandon his view if humanity can definitively disprove God`s existence, which is currently impossible and might remain so. I`m asking for far less, namely some direct or trace evidence that is not tied to personal experience, appeals to emotion, appeals to morality, or phenomenon easily attributable to natural processes; something that suggests a deity or a being with deity-like abilities exists or did exist in some objective, verifiable capacity. If one feels this is asking too much, it is only because religion cannot meet me halfway.
On a side note, it`s bed time. God bless.
Your conversion experience saved you from ambiguity, from fear of the unknown, fear of disorder. Fear of Death. Now you have an infallible manual to tell you what to do, to comfort you, to divide the world into black and white, good and bad, saved and unsaved. There can be no middle ground b/c there is no middle ground. You need never to think for yourself ever again, which is good as introspection is painful. And whenever creeping doubt comes back (as it inevitably does) there is always the book you can use to kill those thoughts.
""Atheists are slaves to themselves"
So it`s bad to own yourself, rather than letting others own you"
An inherent aspect of slavery is that the slave is unwilling. When a Christian gives himself to God, not the church but God, he does so of his own free will. Therefore he is not a slave to God, but a willing servant. The "it`s better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven" argument assumes that when we die, we remain the same way we are when we are alive, we just go to a new place. That`s not how it works, however. When you give yourself to God, you change, from the inside. You become "like Christ", as the Bible puts it. The Bible says that God "made" us, but he "begot" Jesus. You beget things like you, and make things different from you. A man begets a child, but makes a house. A bird begets an egg, which becomes a bird, but makes a nest. Jesus is like God, and begotten, we are unlike God, and made. (cont.
Agreed. Hypocrisy is disgusting.
Completely wrong. There is nothing in religion dictating that you believe people behave a certain way. Believing that all people are bad or all are good is a personal opinion. Some believers think people are generally good, some hold the opposite view. Christianity says absolutely nothing about non-believers, or "uncontrolled", being bad or vicious. In fact it goes the other way, saying that every single person is created by God, and has some of His pure goodness inside of him, it just needs to be revived to shine through.
The only thing we falsely assumed was that you knew the basics of grammar.
Everything in existence is unnecessary. That doesn`t mean it`s not there. And we can`t "save a step" because there is a God. Yes, in that respect it would be simpler to say there wasn`t. Religion is complicated because it is true. It`s easy to be simplistic when you don`t have to bother with facts.
I believe that is because all the major religions and beliefs stem from the same basic truths.
Actually, I am significantly more in awe of/intimidated by my insignificance now that I know there is a God than when I thought this life was all there was.
"Frankly I think atheists respect human life more than theists because they understand that that is all that exists"
We regard life as the ultimate holy gift, a blessing beyond all others. You regard it as a freak accident.
There is a lot more initiative to be moral and just than religion. It`s arguments like that that make us look bad.
The pope is not religion. The Catholic Church is not religion. People will take advantage of any power that is available, religion is no exception.
Psychological traits of Fundamentalism:Basic distrust of human beings; certainty that "uncontrolled" human beings will be bad and vicious.Distrust of their own judgment, or any other human being`s judgment.Ethical development at the reward and punishment stage;morality must be defined and enforced by an external authority.
I`d still love to hear this one. If you don`t elaborate, Sixclaws, I will assume you can`t and are just blowing steam. Going once... going twice...
it even says Jesus will help me do it.
miss-interpreting crap is fun, isnt it religion=D
Anyway: Qwelch, all Siyanor could have meant was that every person that he hates happens to be Christian; not that he hates every single christian. Just the ones he knows...
And no, I would not assume you hate all women, I would assume there are women that you hate, which may or may not be all of them.
The statement "I hate Christians", grammatically, means nothing more than there are Christians that I hate. I don`t see why anyone would assume "all" if it`s not there, nor why anyone would assume "some" if it`s not there. Grammatically, the sentence does not specify.
Siyanor, if you don`t specify "some" then "all" is what is implied. If I was a cashier and said, "here`s your change", would you not immediately assume that it was all of the money that I owed you, and not just `some` of it?
DavioMagnifi is absolutely correct.
Then again, my (almost) (re-)conversion has been unconventional to say the least.
Do unto others, as you would have done unto you.
This basically means, if you don`t like people stealing from you, then you don`t do it yourself. If you don`t like being beat/hit, don`t do it...ect.
Oh, and the "golden rule" can be found in almost all religions. (Yes, even non-christians)
And perhaps without the influence of religion which directly lengthened the Dark Ages, other countries would have colonized the US and we would be not only radically different, but two hundred years further into the future technologically.
Your whole concept is ridiculous.
I hope I`m wrong.
There is nothing wrong with having a religion that one believes in. It is the small percentage of radicals that get carried away that give any religion a bad name, and this is true for EVERY religion. I am agnostic myself, but I enjoy studying religions, all religions. I have found merit and some great values and views in every religion that everyone can take away and apply to their eveyday lives. I don`t believe there is such a thing as a wrong religion or a true religion. It`s all about faith and what feels right to you. Open your minds and accept that different views and opinions are what cause us to examine ourselves and better our lives.
Ok, I`m done, hate me if you must, but I felt like giving my own little speech on the subject.
Second though: Lol, furries
I totally agree, but olny for those who are frigtened by their insignificance in the universe that they need to belive in fairy tales. And its not like Atheists are spinless social degenerates. Frankly I think atheists respect human life more than theists because they understand that that is all that exists( i don`t mean abortion btw, i don`t want to open that can of worms here, i mean religious killings... a.k.a crusades, suicide bombers...
That`s retarded. America is a secular nation, and the major religion of the country has little impact on how we act.
Furthermore, as an atheist I take pride in not stealing or murdering because it`s a dick move, not because an invisible friend tells me not to!
Which is really the more stable basis for morality?
YAY! religion mindnumbing society! WOOO!
I stopped earlier, the guy looked like some psycho pedo.
Veggie tales is better!!! `Cause it`s like vegetables and Jesus and awesomeness, which is the trinity! *ahem*
That is all.
And... I`m still gonna sin. `Cause sinning`s fun.
jk, anyway, it was sort of catchy :P made me giggle abit! :D
but fck yeah im gonna keep sinning
In human years that`s... 7 minutes and 35 seconds.
I`d love to hear this one.
Actually we do know. We want it that way. Being a slave to yourself means you`re in control. Instead of being a slave to a false belief. And because you where a "former agnostic" doesn`t mean you understand why people are atheist. I am a former christian but i still don`t understand 90% of whats going on in your minds.
It`s the only safe thing to do once you have your neocortex excised.
So it`s bad to own yourself, rather than letting others own you?
Morteyur, I have never seen Baal leave a comment that wasn`t pertinent to the post. Just because you don`t grasp what he says doesn`t mean it`s not worth saying.
And that guy looks sort of like a teddy bear... the sort of teddy bear you find abandoned in a bin because it`s too creepy to give to any kid :S
what does it fulfill hmm?
the word are wrong ffs.
"look away, look away. and we will begin and jesus will help to do good"
now aint that summit a catholic priest to a lil boy
From now on I`ll limit my responses to symbols and netronyms.
vid wuz cuuul luLz
dont take life serious, u wont get out alive...
*plays devildriver* oh thats better
now to get back to my sinning ways....bit of slayer....bit swearing...bit of lusting...bit of lying...
ahhh much better
why was a muppet lion wearing a plaid shirt and singing "look away when tempted to sin"
... isn`t that a sin in itself?
It`s called "Quigley`s Village" and my mom used to rent the videos for my little sister.
Also: JESUS CHRIST IT`S A LION GET IN THE CAR!
Also, who DOESN`T think that coffee causes cannibalism? Psh...
I`m not exactly in favour of the christian belief either but um... you dont think thats a bit extreme?
Hating on Christians is stupid. As stupid as hating Jews, Hindus, Buddhists.... etc.
Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering. ~ Yoda
Pedophilia and incest.
Join us Next week on "Exaggerated Claims with Disproportionate Evidence" where we`ll be taking a look at "Coffee, Does it cause Cannibalism?"
See, when I compare certain people to the Klan, this is the kind of crap I`m talking about.
Cue "No, *my* prejudices are rational because......" arguments.
Have a look at this video. Then look through the comments, scroll down to Vagner`s comment: "I drat your mother just in her drating black ass!! with my big white dick!"
See that? That`s you. Enjoy your life.
Also, Davy:"Guilt, Shame and Fear sure are powerful weapons"Will you be adding that comment to the Mr. T video? I see more of all three in there.
You saw those three in this video though? No
But it beats Barney the dinosaur and Teletubbies by a country mile!
And they wonder why people take the piss out of Christians and don`t take them seriously...
till i started fapping to the puppets.
I consider anyone ignorant who issues a blanket statement hating a group of people.
What a creepy video XD whats up with the guy seriously smiling CONSTANTLY. 0.o
Great song. The only thing it was missing was one of those dots that bounces to the beat. I got dissapointed when i saw i couldn`t sing along to it...
Well we love you.
Can`t... look away...
**I admit I photoshoped it but I was only highlighting what was there!**
I know exactly what my opinion is, and I know exactly what the laws are. So I can`t possibly be ignorant about anything that I mentioned.
BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS!
Well that`s cute, you`re ignorant.
Guilt, Shame and Fear sure are powerful weapons, aren`t they Religion-Bear?
