Its great to see the other birds, I think gulls, eating the bread on the ground, whilst our little buddy gets a much better meal.

Never follow the pack my good bird! Always blaze your own trail.

The intelligence this implies is extraordinary. A bird using tools has to have at least the intelligence of a chimpanzee using a stick to catch ants, or greater. Millions of years from now we can expect birds to develop advanced language! TIGHT

Typical "journalistic science". Firstly, the bird APPEARS TO THINK like a human fisher, since no-one can say what a bird is thinking or if it even does, the most that can be assumed is that APPEARS to.

Secondly, how do we know it isn`t the fish that have trained the bird to put the bread there as a convenient way for the fish to commit suicide? I`m calling it a Piscian Suicide Booth and anyone who disagrees can go eat a floating bit of bread.

    This stunned scientists? really?
Scientists can`t be that dumb... c`mon...
Why is it that every once in a while a new video surfaces of an animal doing something, and "scientists are shocked" or "baffled"! As if they`re idiots who just couldn`t accept the possibility of animals doing something remotely "intelligent" (or adaptive... whatever floats your technojargon boat) prior to being shown point blank footage? C`mon surely scientists of all people should be a wee bit smarter and more flexible to such an occurance.
Or does saying "scientists shocked" just make it more noteworthy to average joe, and in truth scientists are like... psshh... I saw that 20 years ago, infact I have 3 books out on the topic.

Loxen...there is obviously intelligence all over the animal kingdom, but the use of tools is thought to be restricted to a VERY select few. That fact that we`re seeing that in birds now why it is stunning scientists.

It`s kind of insane to think that animals that have (debateably) existed longer than mankind wouldn`t have developed any kind of intelligence.

Look at dolphins. And whales. And elephants. And horses. And probably roosterroaches.

    Hmm.
