This kid is a great mimic, but the whole thing is a bit ridiculous.

I see a future gay-rights, liberal Dem in the making here. Nothin` wrong with that, but I guarantee you he`s headed down that road.

Spewing charisma and knows his stuff backward and forward already? Looks like the makings of a future President.

Though to be honest, he`s not exactly brilliant. Take your basic high school Civics book and look up the definition of "conservatism" and there`s his inspiring 3 minute speech.

...Props for charisma!

I just listened to what he said, it`s harder and harder to put personal responsibility and right to life together. As we keep everyone alive, minor errors and flaws survive in us and we pass it on. It starts to breed a people less capable than before. I am not saying that we should be killing people, i am looking at the sitation from a amoral viewpoint.
Also, with the way marketing influences the youth today it isnt helping any. And, we think we are helping our youth with "channel 1 news", and with all the new computers, smartboards, or videos. But, in reality we are just furthering the handicap. I myself am caught in the mindtrap of this. People are becoming to accustomed to instant gratification.

Sorry about the end being so off subject, I just went with my train of thought.

Thomas Jefferson presumed the 2-party system would be our undoing and indeed he may have been right. there are republicans and democrats who only vote the party line and take pride in their votes even when their leader turn out to be borderline retarded. Be American first then vote for who would be best for the country.

Wow, he can talk, like other politicians. It doesn`t make you smart when you`re a puppet. It`s "the inside of conservatism" that makes up for the party, not the other way around. An ideology based on protecting the people? You`re telling me that, that is not a romantic view? No no, it is an "ideology" based on the principal of protecting the American, conservative people. Your respect for the constituion means nothing to the people that got their myspace deleted because of "graphic nature of the profile". It has nothing to do with police brutality against civilians, it has little impact on lifting the ban on marijuana, or on approval of gay marriage. Yet we talk about freedom. What about the countless wars against others? Your xenophobia also remains, it only gets a new cloak. Propagandha machine for the republican whorehouse.

Now I sense lots of people that are going to turn their cannons towards me.

This kid has no idea what he is talking about. His definition of `conservatism` could work for any ideology. "the people and the people`s rights," is what all people promoting their ideological would use to sell it. Does he think that liberals dont want the same thing? Thats the problem with politics, everyone has an opinion, but few are educated in it. Now the media is gonna be all over him promoting him as much as Joe the Plumber....puke!

You`re wrong, Liberals want to expand government control over everything, when what needs to happen is for the government to get the drat out of everything. The Private Sector has always been there to improve the economy, and obama`s plan to raise taxes on the "wealthy", the people who make the money, and give it away as welfare or in this drating spendulus plan (which will hurt the economy gravely) is criminal. Why so many idiots voted for him remains a mystery, he has no experience, no skills, and no right to lead the nation

I think the biggest buzz kill in the video (for me, anyway) is the kid`s enthusiasm and hope. Because, however long it takes (and sadly it won`t be long), he`s going to realize that talking to either party, or any large group, really, about an ideal, is the very definition of futility.

Although, interestingly, I think he may already know this and is pulling one over on the audience. And he`s enjoying, it, too, I think. Because, clearly the concept of conservatism that he`s outlining (personal rights) is far less demonstrated in today`s Republican party than it is in today`s Democratic party (see Patriot Act, Warrantless Wire Tapping, rendition, torture, etc.).

Or maybe I`m just reading too much into it.

the fact that we say that you are either liberal or conservative is bogus anyway. our political system is so flawed and generalized. and american conservatism does not necessarily mean sticking to the constitution, because if it did, then american conservatism would be very similar to libertarianism because the american constitution is founded in libertarian ideals.

The cocept of liberetarianism is one that dates to the founding documents where (I think) Jefferson argued that a man`s right to swing his fist, ended just before the tip of another`s nose... (if you are not hurting someone else, what you do is your own business)... something like that

last post, but i take that last statement back. conservatism really does champion personal freedom, because it accepts that you can do the right thing or the wrong thing. government is just there to enforce the punishment when you choose to do the wrong thing. liberalism makes laws that try and persuade people to do the right thing. clearly both have their upsides but i choose my liberty, bitches.

"liberalism champions personal freedom"

Sorry friend, you are confusing Liberalism with Libertarianism. Yes, they both start with "L." Liberalism expands the authority of government, as in to interperet "liberally the Constitution."
Libretarism recognizes the rights of the individual over the authority of the government. Not the same thing.

i don`t see how that is a paradox specific to conservatism. if liberty is equally distributed then some people will abuse it. how does liberalism fix that?

Female 275
amaqdrinker: that is my point. I totally agree with you. But Republicans and those who ascribe the the ideology this boy talks about are people who make claims of life = most important. There is a problem with this because they talk about people`s liberty first, no killing fetuses, etc. But then they tend to be pro-police action, pro-incarceration for non-violent offenses and pro-death penalty.

Therein lies the problem with conservatism. Do they want liberty or safety? They can`t seem to decide.

this kid mentioned some buzz words but didn`t explain sh*t.

"And if we have learned anything from people like Hobbes and Jefferson is that opting for personal responsibility over a more police state, personal safety decreases. The more liberty you have, the more exposed you are."

i believe you`ve stumbled upon a paradox. personally i choose liberty over safety.

Female 275
I really appreciate his approach of theory and ideology. The kid is a scholar; and no matter what you think of the "Republican" Ideology, Conservatism does indeed have a strong theoretical base. I only disagree with his assertion that "respect for life" is not at the heart of conservatism. The major basis is a small government and personal responsibility. And if we have learned anything from people like Hobbes and Jefferson is that opting for personal responsibility over a more police state, personal safety decreases. The more liberty you have, the more exposed you are.

And I think that`s the inherent contradiction in conservatism; They claim to want to respect life, yet are not opposed to deadly force to protect one`s own space. They oppose terminating a pregnancy, yet are in favor of the "eye for an eye" penal system.

When did I ever say Obama`s platform embodies conservative ideals? Even if Liam Neeson had me hooked up to a jerry-rigged electric chair in Paris I would never say Obama has conservative values.

Just because Obama says he`s protecting freedom and enforcing personal responsibility, it doesn`t mean he really is. I would call that god-awful bloated "Stimulus" package a giant monument to Obama`s belief that the government knows better than its citizens. And that is a very dangerous ideology.

Interesting, you just took Obama`s platform and stated that his goals embody "real conservatism" while simultaneously insulting Obama. That`s wingnuttiness at it`s finest.

That being said, I do hope that Republicans start embodying those ideals as well. It feels weird when a Democrat is doing what the Republicans should have always been doing (and were always doing before Regan).

Well trashcan, from what I could tell this kid decided to right this book and present a small speech under his own volition. He didn`t have mommy and daddy next to his side whispering in his ear to tell him what to say next.

But I have seen kids being used before to spread political propaganda to push forward agendas. Oh man, where did I see that before? Oh yeah, now I remember, http://www.youdecidepolitics.com/2008/09...

And while we`re equating political parties to Nazis, how bout this little number right here. A paramilitary youth organization named after a very charismatic and influential leader, hmmm... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zt6JWzBqL...

Actually this kid did a good job of defining the principles of American conservatism. His 4 bullet points are a spot on definition. For those who equate Republican with conservatism, you are way off. George W. Bush had very little respect for the Constitution. His pen also doubled the national debt in 8 years. Flame wars are fun when you don`t know what the hell you are talking about. Jindal is only the Republican`s Obama. They saw what Obama was able to do, and wanted to cash in with their own young, minority candidate, so they`ve started to talk him up.

Problem is, if Obama doesn`t do a stellar job, and he will have a difficult time doing so, it would be a very hard race for a young, inexperienced(as far as dealing with congress), minority candidate.

Its nice to see this, and it really looks like the GOP is really interested in getting back to its conservative roots.

Protecting people`s freedom and rights and asking for personal responsibility from the country`s citizens, that`s how I want my America. Bush did away with that and Obama is force feeding Americans poorly conceived projects and heaping amounts of debt. I guess screwing the pooch for future generations is the cost of HOPE and CHANGE.

I also really like Bobby Jindal, prime. I won`t make any decision for a few more years, but from what I`ve heard he`s a no-nonsense Washington outsider with a great track record.
