why sad? wood has to be cut so you can sit in your fancy bos-chair which I am 100% sure has a wooden core somewhere and type into your keyboard on your wooden desk.. you don`t know what they are doing there right? maybe behind the machine there is a gardener just planting new trees? 2 for every tree they cut off maybe?

dean, its sad because it (appears, at least to me) is rainforest, which cannot grow quickly, or with planted back because of week soil. nature must take hundreds of years to recreat a small fraction of whats going on here.

The most beautiful thing about a tree is what you can do with it after you chop it down. Furniture, Houses, Paper We surround ourselves with their products.

Trees are a renewable resource, This is a tree farm. Notice all the nice neat rows of trees of similar size. No old growth or rare trees there.

Its amazing how few of you ever seen a tree farm. They were planted there just for the purpose of saving old growth forests. They are everywhere!

Pretty much take 10 lots or more of land. Plant one set of trees a year, then cut them down. you cycle/plant in 10 year rotations, so every year you have a ton of wood to cut down, then re-plant indefinitely. There are no animals, there is no forest, if anything they are saving the environment by doing this.

Wooo tree farms! I hear bamboo farms are a good alternative to trees. From what I`ve heard they grow faster and you get more from less land. But hey as long as they aren`t cutting down old growth forests and destroying animal habitats its all good.

    "It`s sad because it`s rainforest"?

Yes, it`s funny how so many natural rainforests have the trees in nice straight lines. Nature abhors untidy forests so the little forest fairies come out at night and move any tree that is out of place.

And I`m seriously getting a kick out of the idiots who think this is a rainforest. First of all, a rainforest would be much denser. Second, the trees would not be all uniform size. Third, they wouldn`t all be in neat little groups or arranged rows. And finally, there would be tons of animals running around all over them place due to loss of habitat. I have several farms like this one near my house. Its thanks to farms like this one that I can go out and get firewood by the crate for $10, and it lasts me all year.

Literally, my jaw dropped when I saw that. If I were in charge of a lumber equipment manufacture/design company and one of my employees came to me with an idea to build a machine like that, I`d fire them because I`d think it couldn`t be done. That was amazing.

Let`s just be thankful that whoever designed and built that thing doesn`t work in the defense industry, because whatever evil weapon they designed would make nukes look like firecrackers. Man, that was nasty.

(Oh, and squirrels and birds have no chance.)

Who the hell said that looks like rain forest? I suppose you think wasting paper destroys rain forest too? Trees are renewable, this is clearly a tree farm. Using wood products simply causes more trees to be planted and grown, its something we have been doing for 100 years. We have more forests today then we did 50 years ago.
