Chances are, these robots won`t become commonplace in our lifetime. They`ve been in development since the fifties. It might be released to the public, but it will cost over 9000 dollars/pounds/euros to buy.

It cant use stairs, cant stock the dishwasher, cant read books to me till i fall asleep. This thing is useless. I imagine this being a thing for disabled people first who will be helped by having professionals who will program the robots to the floorspace of the house and the timing for the kind of dishwasher clothes washer and also when to hoover and so on.

They`re going to make those robots smaller and faster in the future. I like that.

There will be a lot of people without a job in the future, a good plan would be to shift to a ressource based economy ( Non-monetary system ) where everything is provided by the government and made by robots and/or people who volunteered to works for free ( Keeping the working environement user friendly just in case people get bored ).

I could live in a world like that.

    Also,
knightrockr said, "it`s so slow and looks like it will cost a fortune.... i think i would much rather do it myself...."

I do recall people saying that about computers a while ago... Nobody thought they would go anywhere.

Robots are interesting creations. I still think they`re a bit creepy because of the emotionless way they do tasks, and all the while they keep accumulating human-like appearances.

As for the robot doing dishes, I don`t think we need a full on large robot for it, wouldn`t a few smaller robots do better? We already have the Roomba, I`d think a mopping alteration would make the grade. And as Trumple07 said, the task of simply putting a dish in a specific place can be done a lot faster, so why not put it in a conveyor or just automate the dishwasher itself?

if this comes out into the mainstream market, it would cost thousands of dollars, plus if it ever malfunctioned, you`d be screwed. so, don`t get your hopes too high.
