Boadicea: are you joking? He is NOT anti gay. Anti gay is a rather hateful word i believe. Just because he believes something does not mean he is being hateful. Do you hate someone who disagrees with you?

Indeed, for thou art the chosen ones, in no way like those who would call themselves religious.
Someone managed to provide videos afterwards of statements actually against homosexuals. Maybe Picard could have had a "Lets do no such damn thing" after that instead of the neutral "Let us pray"?

So, no, Almighty. The statement was correct the first time.

"Religious intolerance masquerading as righteous indignation of intolerance towards sexual orientation."

Or perhaps just righteous indignation of intolerance towards sexual orientation.

Beeze + Asspenny:
Most pro-lifers call for the doctors to be punished, not the mothers. The video combines previous scaremongering (The generally false accusation that Prolifers want to lock up women), and now deceit (The suggestion that prolifers haven`t considered what banning abortion would mean).

"If you ban underage smoking, what will happen to the child that smokes illegally?"
"I dunno"
"Any other crimes that you can name have no punishment?! You`ve never thought about it?! "

Underage smoking. You punish the sellers, not the children, it lowers the rates, it cuts social acceptance.

In other news, only about 6% of prolifers actually stand against abortion in case of rape/incest/abuse or in the case where the mother`s life is in jeopardy.

Meanwhile 24% of pro-choicers are in favour of abortions of full term babies, without restriction.

That`s badass. Rick Warren is such a douche. He said that Sam Harris deserves to go to hell. Is there anything eviler that thinking another human being deserves to be tortured for eternity? I can`t think of anything. He also said that if he wasn`t a Christian, he wouldn`t waste another minute being altruistic.

Evanking: Homosexuals are flawed, as well as infertile people, right? And old people? Seriously, if you don`t think humans, in general, are flawed, you need a reality check.

if you`re a proponent of the theory of evolution, then you should believe that homosexuals are literally flawed creatures, and are slowing down the progress of mankind.

don`t bother replying to me from your high horse about intolerance and moral ambiguity, because if you do, you are actually inferior, because you think that you`re thinking progressively, and you`re not. prove me right, faggots.

"The definition of marriage as between a man and a woman has been accepted for thousands of years"... which means it`s totally correct and should not be questioned?

Guess what else was accepted for thousands of years before people grew some brains? Slavery, racism, oppression of women, etc, etc. Oh but they were going on for a REALLY LONG TIME so of course that makes them perfectly acceptable. Sigh.

(By the way, I`m aware that all that still goes on, but at least it`s not widely accepted/allowed anymore (at least in the West))

"The problem is that since marriage is both a matter for the church AND state"

Bullsh*t. Who do you think gives preachers their licenses to wed people? Marriage is first and foremost a state matter - any decoration of the actual ceremony is superfluous and irrelevant.

As for the video... pure brilliance.

Musuko42- I know you were most likely just kidding when you suggested that "God-botherers" ignore the state, but it`s actually a good suggestion.

I have heard of couples that are married in the eyes of their church, yet are unmarried in the eyes of the state. They honestly would prefer not to be married in the state`s eyes, because even though they are missing out on benefits, they have the added bonus of increased privacy.

Believe it or not, there are valid points to your argument, even for Christians.

"The problem is that since marriage is both a matter for the church AND state"

Why? If you want your marriage to be a contract between you, your partner, and your state, then it`s a state matter. If you want your marriage to be a contract between you, your partner, and your god, then it`s a church matter.

I vote that we separate the two completely, and if you make your contract with the state, you don`t get your marriage sanctified by the church, and if you make your contract with the church, your state doesn`t recognise the marriage and doesn`t give you the rights, privilages and tax breaks that they give to state-married couples.

I think that sounds fair. If god-botherers don`t want the state interfering with their marriages, then let`s take the state out of their marriages altogether, benefits and all. :)

See here in the UK gay couples can get civil unions, and apart from the NAME, everyone just treats it the same as marriage, calls it marriage/weddings, its all the same stuff. I don`t see why gays in the US find it so offensive that it`s offered as the alternative to religious marriage, the religious part being the only main difference.

Picard was the only reason I watch TNG. His lines were so well written as opposed to everyone else. The man LIVED in a Charles Dickens book. (Funny that Patrick Stewart later went on to be Scrooge in A Christmas Carol...)

But on subject, the church should stay out of matters of State. The problem is that since marriage is both a matter for the church AND state, there is always going to be a fierce disagreement on how it should be viewed. Marriage, by definition, is a LEGAL bond between two people. This bond ties them together as partners in all future decisions in life. Thus marriage, by definition, is a matter of state. Even the bible is false in calling Marriage an act under God. Let me explain. In those times, couples were united under God. This wasn`t a legally binding contract, thus could be severed at will, which was rare. These unions were bonds of love. The word marriage is in the bible as a replacement for the phrase spiritual union.

The government should stay out of religion period. If gays are unhappy then they should be unhappy only with their religions, not the government.

Re: Civil unions and marriages, what gexxo said is exactly correct. A rose by any other name still smells as sweet. I absolutely don`t understand detractors who are saying by naming `gay marriage` as `civil union` makes us second class citizens. No such thing in the UK, why should there be any when it comes to the US?

You would be surprised apoet and neil:
Obama`s official agenda for civil rights

I also have another article that specifically highlights all the LGBT sections of the agenda, but the site contains more racier content, and I`m not sure if I`ll get modded.

But in a nut shell: He plans to make Civil Unions exactly like marriage. Only difference would be the names. And a rose by any other name would still smell as sweet :).

He also wants to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act, and opposes anything that tries to make gay marriage unconstitutional.

He want to repeal the "Don`t Ask, Don`t Tell" policy, get adoption rights for all couples, gay or otherwise, develop a strategy for AIDS/HIV, and he also supports including LGBTs in the Employment Non-Discrimination Act.

It`s all there and even more! Whether or not he will actually do all of this is an

Poet, I think Obama being for civil unions is him settling. He and we know that he would not be the president if he publically and fully supported same sex marriages.

Society is slow sometimes. We can`t go from 0 to 60, even small things like what gender can marry what gender will take generations.

I wouldn`t say Obama is anti-gay marriage. Unlike Bush he doesn`t seek to outlaw it. He`s totally for Civil Unions....even tho civil unions would only make us gays even more of a 2nd class citizen........
