Oh screw the U.N. It`s a paper tiger. Most of it`s power comes from the U.S. Military anyway. Please.

As to the war with Iran, we already HAD the U.N.`s token permission. There was already a resolution on file with the UN Security council saying that if Hussein didn`t take some specific actions, he`d be taken out. Hussein had hella long time of not doing what the UN told him, and the UN sat on their hands. So the U.S. finally took action on behalf of the U.N.

As to Isreal and Palestine. Isreal did not steal any land. The Powers that be (who currently are the main powers of the UN) gave that land to the Jews as I recall.

Israel wouldn`t find it necessary to take action if the idiot terrorists would get a clue.

"do you guys know that most of your stand points will be seen as on the wrong side of history?"

Yeah, you`re right so why don`t we all abandon what we truly feel and hop on the side that will be most popular. I would hate it if my opinion wouldn`t conform exactly to the masses. Your statement that our viewpoints will be seen as wrong perfectly shows the way that our history is manipulated by the those in power. Just because something went one way doesn`t mean that it was the right way.

Yeah, you guys are right, f-ck the UN, who cares about what our powerful allies think, I mean, it no way shapes what the rest of the world thinks of us. I mean, yeah the US should do whatever the f-ck it feels like. That goes for other countries too, I mean, we just just give up on the whole UN thing, f-ck it, right?

Also the point of the invasion being against the charter was the it was a PREEMPTIVE attack, not a defensive one. The agreement we made for UN approvals is not needed as long as it is defensive. Of course we can strike back defensively, but that wasn`t what was going on.

I`m not going to get into the election problems that were occurring on that day because if you don`t already know about them, then I can`t get any point across.

Side note - do you guys know that most of your stand points will be seen as on the wrong side of history? I`m not trying to be a b-tch, I mean if that is what you really believe, I guess there is nothing I can do but face palm.

As far as the election goes, in 2000, the Democratic National Committee asked the supreme court to rule who won, which is not technically their job, so they did. LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: Check this one out (newspaper headline) from the "USA Today." "Supreme Court Rules for Bush; Gore Aides Expect Concession." There was no election stealing, well, now there is, Al Franken won, thanx to that widely respected group A.C.O.R.N. But as far as that election goes, it was ruled by the supreme court.

I wasn`t putting 9/11 and Iraq together. I was saying in general a nation doesn`t need to ask other nations or the U freaking N to defend itself. Though how many terrorists in the planes or in on the plot itself were from Iraq. The weapons of mass destruction also, Hussein had plenty of time to get them together and get them the freak out of the country before the UN inspectors came. They had ample opportunity while the US and many other nations were busy in Afghanistan. In my opinion, I could care less if there were WMD in the country or not, Hussein was evil ranking up there with Hitler and something, anything had to be done about him. When the military did get in there they found Graves of Mass Death. Wasn`t that reason enough? It`s like the people who can`t believe that there were concentration camps in Germany, Poland, etc. killing people off just because of who they were. It wasn`t stopped until we were attacked and actually got in there to see it and finally put and end to it.

Since when does a nation have to get permission to defend itself when they are attacked. I suppose we should have asked the world if it was okay to go after Japan after thousands upon thousands of lives were lost in Pearl Harbor. In the past nobody has ever had to ask permission from the other nations to go to war with another. The world has just never worked that way. Did Germany in the 30`s and 40`s ask the other nations if they could set up ghettos and concentration camps to kill not only Jewish people but just about any one that didn`t fit their requisite. It`s naive to think like that. America was attacked on Sep 11, 2001 and not only did Americans die, but members of other nations. Those nations should have been equally angered about the loss of their members. In the end though American people, buildings, and planes were the targets of the attacks.

Its saying to the enemy: Please come and kill more people while we wait to to get permission from Mommy and Daddy at the UN

Yes israel is made up of people who took that land by force. Much like the romans. And much like the romans, they are seen as an evil empire by the people who don`t want to change their way of life. Even though the romans brought higher education, better technology, more organized government, and generally a better way of life, the people refused to change. You might argue that it is their choice to live as primitives if you like, that is fine, but don`t expect to have an equal seat in society and expect your voice or opinion to even MATTER if you arent willing to be a part of a civilized society. The do nothing, they contribute nothing. They are given the tools, science, education, technology, and the only thing they can come up with is to brainwash their women and their children and use the technology to further a primitive culture and lifestyle. Science delivers them acid, and they use it to splash a woman`s face because she dared show it in public.

yeah this thread is obviously dead, but i feel i should comment here.

RE: Israel
Your statistics on israel are well founded. that being said, Peace in the middle east will come from one thing and one thing only.

When those people and their governments begin working towards a single goal of building an infrastructure, producing goods, trading in the markets and playing ball on the global level, they will understand that peace is not only beneficial for their survival, but is in fact more profitable and better for their standard of living. As it is now, they hold onto tribal and medieval ways of life injected with modern weapons. If Hamas spent more time trying to build an infrastructure, govern their people effectively and try and make the best of their situation, they MIGHT find out that they could just bleed israel of money for good instead. But no, they just continue acting like primatives with guns.

I know this is way over but, prime - I was talking about the 2000 election, not the 2004 which, if you don`t want to ignore everything we have learned about it, there was absolutely something going on there.

It is not an exaggeration to call it war crimes. It was an illegal war. There wasn`t approval from the UN which we needed because it was a preemptive attack and thousands of people have died as result.

I understand you think that it is okay that we went to war without permission but the UN still saw it as a violation of the charter we had agreed to after World War II.

It makes me mad that lives could`ve been saved if we had followed the law because we might have had a chance to come to the conclusion that there were no WMD`s.

I mean, hey maybe not, maybe we would`ve eventually gotten the okay from the UN to invade but at least we would`ve been following the rules. It would`ve eliminated all these "what if`s."

Baalthazaq, are you talking about the middle east or the U.S.? Because in the U.S. millions of women, children, and men were killed in the 1800`s to clear land so that "Good Christian White Folk" and railroads could control the lands. This has never worked out for the Native Americans, 90 percent live below the poverty level except the other 10 percent that have a casino. Is this what awaits Palestinians? God I hope not. I like Israel and the Israelis, but they have to come up with a way to rectify this so they don`t continue this cycle of violence, Palestine doesn`t have the means to do this.

Seriously, defending thousands upon thousands of civilians based on a right to defend themselves on land 80% of them are immigrants to, from a population that is 90% native?

I suppose you;d also be in favour of me taking your house and claiming it was alright to shoot you and your family in "self defence" because "otherwise, they might have attacked me".

Utter moron indeed. Think for 10 seconds about what you`re defending.

700 Palestinian civilians dead.
3 Israeli civilians.

Perhaps there`s a reason people don`t internationally share your outrage. Probably something to do with the fact that Palestine`s "atrocities" stack up to the same death toll as a car accident, whereas Israel`s stack up to a 9/11 every 4 years (not counting the invasion of Lebanon or the current attack on Gaza).

Anyone defending Hamas` attacks on Israel is a complete and utter moron. Where was all the outrage when Hamas fired rockets into Israel? Everyone was quiet then. The world`s outrage seems to be saved only for anti-Israel causes. Only the destruction of Hamas and Hezbollah will allow for peace in the middle east.

As to the Inaguration, I`m glad to see our country still works. I was against Obama being elected, but I can still feel proud that we can have a peaceful regime change that doesn`t involve bloodshed.

Obama is a good talker. I`ll be more impressed if he`s actually able to achieve some of his goals, however unrealistic they may be.

Also in the even later ceasefire:
"The first death after the cease-fire was a Palestinian farmer who was shot dead by Israeli soldier while checking his farm in Khan Younis, on January 18 morning"

Yet again, first blood goes to Israel.

As for more civilians killed:
"As of 19 January 2009, 13 Israelis have been killed during this conflict, including three civilians. On the Palestinian side, it is estimated that 1,314 individuals have been killed (0.089% of the population), including 700 civilians, among them 410 children and 85 women"

Israel fails on every single possible metric without convoluted addendum.

"It is well known palestinians fired rockets into Israel". So?
We`re talking about 1) first breaking the agreements of the ceasefire, and 2) the first attack.

"A six-month truce between Hamas and Israel expired on 19 December 2008.[50">[51">[52"> Contending that Israel had not lifted the Gaza Strip blockade and following an Israeli raid on a proported cross-border tunnel in the Gaza Strip on November 4,[53"> Hamas resumed its rocket and mortar attacks on Israel. After announcing, on December 19, that the truce was "over",[54"> Hamas offered to consider extending the truce on December 23.[55">[56">[57">[58"> On 27 December 2008, Israel launched its military operation with the stated objective of defending itself from Hamas rocket fire."

Zerocyde with a great disaccord of your statement that capitalism is broken I assure you that capitalism is the solution to many of the global problems that bring the human race down and only when social re-engineering blocks independent capitalism does trouble ensue. As for Obama, I believe that he is going to have a rude awakening with his plans for change when he starts dealing with such a weak Congress which as far as I am concerned will not be such a bad thing. I hope he has the wisdom not to interfere to much in private industry, the USA blood line.

Ok, I know I said summary, but to hell with it.

If Obama makes aesthetic changes, without dealing in any substantial way with the problems in the middle east, America will go back to pre-9/11 mentality.

Ignorance. Effectively.

Nothing changed on 9/11 except that America noticed the rest of the world was there. 9/11 was 50 year of suffering demonstrated in a very real fashion.

People asked "Why do they hate us" and were reassured by their idiot president that it was due to "evil". Not due to say, oh, 3.5 million refugees expelled to house an 80% immigrant population.

9/11 was a "Stop ignoring this!", and you didn`t. You panicked. That great $8 enemy was coming, and you better invade uninvolved sandy countries at random to stop em.

Now you`re gonna stop invading those random countries so you can feel like the good guys again.

Before that, ask: Why was 9/11 before the invasion?

Basically, America has shown that it can elect a black man as president... as long as he isn`t Muslim.

I`m not impressed.

I`m not impressed that you`re still, after 50 years, incapable of addressing the middle east problem, that can be solved, not with appeasement but with any semblence of fairness.

First terrorist attacks in Israel/Palestine: Lehi car bombings. Not Muslims. Killing British troops and Arab civilians in order to disrupt the peace process.
First people to break latest ceasefire: Israel.
First people to attack: Israel.
Kills most Civilians: Israel.
Kills higher percentage of Civilians: Israel.

"We cannot give in to threats and violence".
Great. Then stop it.

Israel will never need to accept any peace deal, and they never will, while absolute support/funding/UN Vetos come from the US, and until that stops, they never, ever, will, and it will never, ever, end.

Ok. Lets do a summary run.

"The start of everything were terrorists on 9/11"
More people died in the Sabra and Chatilla massacres, that even Israel blamed on Ariel Sharon before elcting him ruler of their country. A man Bush called a "man of peace", and had full support from the US.

9/11 wasn`t the beginning. Not even close. Neither were those massacres I mentioned. This is at least 40 years of violence.

What about when America told the Kurds in Iraq to rise up against Saddam and they would help, followed by leaving them to die at the hands of Saddam?

What about when the Arabs were told "help us win this war (WWI + WWII) and we`ll give you your independance.

Millions of Arabs helped fight your war for their freedom, and then they gave their land, their homes, and their rights to someone else.

9/11/2001? You`re 50 years too late.

We would be in a worse situation than we are now, if we did not have a president that did not care about public opinion.

In 2005, President Bush said he was against embryonic stem cell research, but that we should support finding adult stem cell research. He was laughed at by everyone.

Adult stem cells are better than embryonic

Its easy to blame the economy on Bush, especially if you dont understand economics. The people to blame are the banks and the people who took out loans on houses they cant buy. Greenspan (ex-chairman of the Fed Reserve) is the one who is to blame.

Greenspan admits its his fault

Oh and ptk, you forgot Roosevelt on your list. Yeah…pretty much each president rings the bell of monarchy.

I suppose its America’s aggressiveness and the fact that we associate war with monarchy. Therefore, many come to the opinion that you are a bunch of….you know what I mean.

Actually, sometimes I wonder about Americans being people. (read: I`m not American).

"Bush didn`t start anything the murdering terrorists did on September 11, 2001."

And those murdering terrorists did not come from Iraq or had anything to do with Saddam Hussein. They came from Afghanistan and Osama bin Laden; neither of which Bush seemed to REALLY care about dealing with.

Iraq had absolutely nothing to do with 9/11.

All the issues that are in Iraq now are a direct result of the Bush administration sticking its nose where it doesn`t belong.

If he was serious about fighting terrorism, he would have put some serious muscle into Afghanistan. Instead, us Canadians are left to pick up the slack in the that country while the American media lies to it`s people about the so called `war on terror`.

Marx said the same exact thing about Capitalism in the 1800s, Zero, and predicted that the capitalist economies would crumble in little time, noting that world of the industrial revolution outgrew capitalism. The new economic system, driven by the proletariat, would then take its place across the world.

In retrospect, Marx got it pretty much wrong. And its the same case today. Capitalism does not need kicked to the curb. But, if it is necessary, the government should be allowed to put loose, temporary, restrictions on capitalism (ala the OLD union systems), and the system will be made right.

An economic revolution is still a revolution, and giving any country a shock like that is destined to be worse off in the long run. Capitalism just needs to be weened into restrictions, and after it has stabilized, it can then be weened off.

I also don`t hate him for the things you listed, just more on the war crimes he`s committed and the dirty stuff that was going on during the 2000 election.

I have a good feeling about the next 8 years. When I was all over Europe two weeks ago I was proud to tell people where I was from. I can`t wait to see what the future of this country will be like.

Can`t we all just be happy for one day? Inauguration day? So far, he hasn`t screwed anything up that really matters anyway. I don`t know, it just doesn`t seem like a day for flames lol.

I agree with Prime. Bush can`t have been a moron and an evil genius all at the same time, It`s logically impossible. In truth, He was neither dumb or evil. Like it or not, Bush kept us safe from further attacks and defeated one of the world`s worst menaces, Saddam Hussein.

punkipenguin, the `Swear in-er` messed up first. That caused Barack to go back and think about it, (I would assume) which messed him up.

The worst president for this situation would`ve been one that would`ve been influenced by the media.

Look at Bucchannan, he did nothing pre-Civil War as to not upset either side... look how that turned out.

There are people in the Middle East who are raised to hate the United States and Israel, to say that they aren`t threats is ignorant.
Sadam didn`t show us his hand, so we assumed the worst. The Iraqi`s are starting to set up a democracy and we have been moving troops out for a while (funny the media hasn`t reported that... what they`ve been clamoring over for years they`re doing).

Sure there may be a few things that arent defendable, but what president doesn`t have that?

Lincoln arrested the Supreme Court Justice because he disagreed with him yet he is venerated.

Neither Gore or Kerry could`ve handled this situation any better

Ok its time for my controversial post of the day.

Vegascartman, that money was raised/donated by private donators. What they decide to do with their money is their business...even though it looks like it`s the wrong choice.

In 2005 the NYT couldn`t write enough editorials about how horrible it was that Bush had a $45 million inauguration but today, we`re still at war and in a deep recession yet Obama spent over 3 times a much but not a peep. Ah...you just gotta love Liberal hypocrisy!!!

For the first time since I actually cared who was in office (over 16 years old), I can actually say I like the president. I don`t care if he is perfect or completley lives up to his expectations, he can`t be worse than Bush. Google the statistics as to how much Bush put us back: unemployment rates, lower taxes for the rich more for the poor, our national deficit. I`m almost proud to be an American.

My whole family is made up of angry Republicans (all but me). Yipee. I didn`t vote for McCain or Obama, so my feelings of meh started quite some time ago. I could care less if the president is black, or a woman, or whatever, the president is going to be a f*<khead 99% of the time anyway.
At least there`s no more president Bush. : )
But we still have to put up all this "Faith-Based Initiative" bull$#*t, and Obama got Rick Warren, the VERY fundamentalist Christian mega-church pastor. F*<kin` eh.

Look and Gil seem to be right.
Although when *I`m* looking at people and thinking they`re going over the top with the "holier than thou" attitude, you know they have issues.

That`s *my* thing. Give it back.

punkipenguin, you are truly a punk. and btw, it wasn`t Obama that gakked the sequence, it was John Roberts. Watch it again, carefully.. it is Obama that is looking back at Roberts as if to say, "dude, that`s NOT what is in the script. I know what it is that i`m supposed to say, so get it RIGHT. otherwise haters like PUNKIPENGUIN will claim that i wasn`t actually sworn in, the same way that they might claim that i am not a citizen, etc."
Die in FIRE, penguin.

if you actually watched it then you would know..
it was the chief justice who messed up the words, and obama got flustered because of that.
but hey, nothing like judgement without knowledge.

I fully support my Commander in Chief. But, I must say... I give it six months before all the tards start complaining "wheres the change??". He`s got a hell of a job. People are so tired of what they percieve as screw-ups, that if he screws up once or twice in a short amount of time... he will never hear the end of it. We have a truly toxic nation when it comes to unfair criticism. Seems like nobody bothers to try to be objective these days.

While I didn`t vote or support him, I was hoping that he would help rectify the economy.

Then he announced a one trillion dollar "stimulus" package, and I lost all hope.

In three years time, the middle class will be paying that back via taxes. Welcome to 4 years of tax and spend!
