"... you know its congress that passes laws right?"
Umm... duh? What does that have to do with anything? When did I say that it wasn`t congress that passes laws?
And yes Im kidding
As to the war with Iran, we already HAD the U.N.`s token permission. There was already a resolution on file with the UN Security council saying that if Hussein didn`t take some specific actions, he`d be taken out. Hussein had hella long time of not doing what the UN told him, and the UN sat on their hands. So the U.S. finally took action on behalf of the U.N.
As to Isreal and Palestine. Isreal did not steal any land. The Powers that be (who currently are the main powers of the UN) gave that land to the Jews as I recall.
Israel wouldn`t find it necessary to take action if the idiot terrorists would get a clue.
Yeah, you`re right so why don`t we all abandon what we truly feel and hop on the side that will be most popular. I would hate it if my opinion wouldn`t conform exactly to the masses. Your statement that our viewpoints will be seen as wrong perfectly shows the way that our history is manipulated by the those in power. Just because something went one way doesn`t mean that it was the right way.
I`m not going to get into the election problems that were occurring on that day because if you don`t already know about them, then I can`t get any point across.
Side note - do you guys know that most of your stand points will be seen as on the wrong side of history? I`m not trying to be a b-tch, I mean if that is what you really believe, I guess there is nothing I can do but face palm.
". There wasn`t approval from the UN"
Pfft, the UN? What were they gonna do, write a very mean letter (the league of nations did that to Hitler. UN has about the same amount of power)
I can`t believe there are still people who can`t put that together. Holy sh_t.
Its saying to the enemy: Please come and kill more people while we wait to to get permission from Mommy and Daddy at the UN
RE: IsraelYour statistics on israel are well founded. that being said, Peace in the middle east will come from one thing and one thing only.
When those people and their governments begin working towards a single goal of building an infrastructure, producing goods, trading in the markets and playing ball on the global level, they will understand that peace is not only beneficial for their survival, but is in fact more profitable and better for their standard of living. As it is now, they hold onto tribal and medieval ways of life injected with modern weapons. If Hamas spent more time trying to build an infrastructure, govern their people effectively and try and make the best of their situation, they MIGHT find out that they could just bleed israel of money for good instead. But no, they just continue acting like primatives with guns.
It is not an exaggeration to call it war crimes. It was an illegal war. There wasn`t approval from the UN which we needed because it was a preemptive attack and thousands of people have died as result.
I understand you think that it is okay that we went to war without permission but the UN still saw it as a violation of the charter we had agreed to after World War II.
It makes me mad that lives could`ve been saved if we had followed the law because we might have had a chance to come to the conclusion that there were no WMD`s.
I mean, hey maybe not, maybe we would`ve eventually gotten the okay from the UN to invade but at least we would`ve been following the rules. It would`ve eliminated all these "what if`s."
and baalthazaq i`m completely with you on the israel thing. the more i become aware of what is actually going on there the angrier i get about america`s support of israel. if you really want to piss yourself off go see that new critically acclaimed movie waltz with bashir, which in effect tries to take all of the blame off of israel for the sabra and shatila massacres. stylistically its amazing though, but it`s pretty blatant israeli propaganda.
I suppose you;d also be in favour of me taking your house and claiming it was alright to shoot you and your family in "self defence" because "otherwise, they might have attacked me".
Utter moron indeed. Think for 10 seconds about what you`re defending.
Perhaps there`s a reason people don`t internationally share your outrage. Probably something to do with the fact that Palestine`s "atrocities" stack up to the same death toll as a car accident, whereas Israel`s stack up to a 9/11 every 4 years (not counting the invasion of Lebanon or the current attack on Gaza).
As to the Inaguration, I`m glad to see our country still works. I was against Obama being elected, but I can still feel proud that we can have a peaceful regime change that doesn`t involve bloodshed.
Obama is a good talker. I`ll be more impressed if he`s actually able to achieve some of his goals, however unrealistic they may be.
Yet again, first blood goes to Israel.
As for more civilians killed:"As of 19 January 2009, 13 Israelis have been killed during this conflict, including three civilians. On the Palestinian side, it is estimated that 1,314 individuals have been killed (0.089% of the population), including 700 civilians, among them 410 children and 85 women"
Israel fails on every single possible metric without convoluted addendum.
"A six-month truce between Hamas and Israel expired on 19 December 2008.[50">[51">[52"> Contending that Israel had not lifted the Gaza Strip blockade and following an Israeli raid on a proported cross-border tunnel in the Gaza Strip on November 4,[53"> Hamas resumed its rocket and mortar attacks on Israel. After announcing, on December 19, that the truce was "over",[54"> Hamas offered to consider extending the truce on December 23.[55">[56">[57">[58"> On 27 December 2008, Israel launched its military operation with the stated objective of defending itself from Hamas rocket fire."Wiki Link
THEN (Important word for timelines) Hamas fired ro
It is widely known the palestinians fired rockets and mortars into Israel for over a week before Israel retaliated. As long as Hamas has the destruction of Israel as it`s core goal there will never be peace.
Hey if jeus can do it, so can I.
Although thats not really related. I thought we were just sharing.
Still. It`d be pretty f*ckin badass.
I got to watch this in school! ;DJN`23DNW`DNYHGDVW3E IT WAS SO COOL!
If Obama makes aesthetic changes, without dealing in any substantial way with the problems in the middle east, America will go back to pre-9/11 mentality.
Nothing changed on 9/11 except that America noticed the rest of the world was there. 9/11 was 50 year of suffering demonstrated in a very real fashion.
People asked "Why do they hate us" and were reassured by their idiot president that it was due to "evil". Not due to say, oh, 3.5 million refugees expelled to house an 80% immigrant population.
9/11 was a "Stop ignoring this!", and you didn`t. You panicked. That great $8 enemy was coming, and you better invade uninvolved sandy countries at random to stop em.
Now you`re gonna stop invading those random countries so you can feel like the good guys again.
Before that, ask: Why was 9/11 before the invasion?
I`m not impressed.
I`m not impressed that you`re still, after 50 years, incapable of addressing the middle east problem, that can be solved, not with appeasement but with any semblence of fairness.
First terrorist attacks in Israel/Palestine: Lehi car bombings. Not Muslims. Killing British troops and Arab civilians in order to disrupt the peace process.First people to break latest ceasefire: Israel.First people to attack: Israel. Kills most Civilians: Israel. Kills higher percentage of Civilians: Israel.
"We cannot give in to threats and violence". Great. Then stop it.
Israel will never need to accept any peace deal, and they never will, while absolute support/funding/UN Vetos come from the US, and until that stops, they never, ever, will, and it will never, ever, end.
"The start of everything were terrorists on 9/11"More people died in the Sabra and Chatilla massacres, that even Israel blamed on Ariel Sharon before elcting him ruler of their country. A man Bush called a "man of peace", and had full support from the US.
9/11 wasn`t the beginning. Not even close. Neither were those massacres I mentioned. This is at least 40 years of violence.
What about when America told the Kurds in Iraq to rise up against Saddam and they would help, followed by leaving them to die at the hands of Saddam?
What about when the Arabs were told "help us win this war (WWI + WWII) and we`ll give you your independance.
Millions of Arabs helped fight your war for their freedom, and then they gave their land, their homes, and their rights to someone else.
9/11/2001? You`re 50 years too late.
(Yes, in fact you`re actually right, yes this is directed at you, no, nobody else can see this)
We would be in a worse situation than we are now, if we did not have a president that did not care about public opinion.
In 2005, President Bush said he was against embryonic stem cell research, but that we should support finding adult stem cell research. He was laughed at by everyone.
Adult stem cells are better than embryonic
Its easy to blame the economy on Bush, especially if you dont understand economics. The people to blame are the banks and the people who took out loans on houses they cant buy. Greenspan (ex-chairman of the Fed Reserve) is the one who is to blame.
Greenspan admits its his fault
Amen to the man. Seems like somebody actually did research this time?
Including security Bush 155 million. Including security Obama 140-150 million.
Any opinion change at all? Liberal hypocrisy isn`t the only problem.
IT WAS A TIE!!!
United States: 48,250United Kingdom: 8,745Germany: 3,600France: 2,785Canada: 2,750other countries: 13,520
As for Canadians doing some work - might need to brush up on your his..oh.. nevermind. You Americans aren`t taught any USEFUL world history unless it includes yourself. I bet you still think you won the Viet Nam war.
Then GTFO. Complain all you want about the government, but saying you hate the country makes you look a whiny little brat.
Ha ha ha ha, Canadians doing something useful, ha ha ha! You`re funny. Ship me some moose meat.
Don’t make me do a cheap imitation of an Iranian conspiracy theorist who blames everything on the States and Israel.
(Liberals in America and Conservatives in Canada, what’s going on????)
I just don’t like how you mix up Fascism and Patriotism. Nativism, Imperialism, nationism…
Oh and ptk, you forgot Roosevelt on your list. Yeah…pretty much each president rings the bell of monarchy.
I suppose its America’s aggressiveness and the fact that we associate war with monarchy. Therefore, many come to the opinion that you are a bunch of….you know what I mean.
There’s a joke however….
You know when you’re Canadian when you don’t know who the PM’s slept with. As far as you know, the PM’s an old virgin.
I…I didn’t tell it too well.
Actually, sometimes I wonder about Americans being people. (read: I`m not American).
"Bush didn`t start anything the murdering terrorists did on September 11, 2001."
And those murdering terrorists did not come from Iraq or had anything to do with Saddam Hussein. They came from Afghanistan and Osama bin Laden; neither of which Bush seemed to REALLY care about dealing with.
Iraq had absolutely nothing to do with 9/11.
All the issues that are in Iraq now are a direct result of the Bush administration sticking its nose where it doesn`t belong.
If he was serious about fighting terrorism, he would have put some serious muscle into Afghanistan. Instead, us Canadians are left to pick up the slack in the that country while the American media lies to it`s people about the so called `war on terror`.
I guess Lincoln should as well for jailing supreme court justices. And Clinton for perjury. And.... hell... every president in one way or another changed the constitution to fit his needs... I`m looking at you Jefferson... Louisianna purchase my ass
So... are you saying we should abandon capitalism or fix it? Either way I wasn`t saying Obama is a communist; I was saying that the country has been slipping towards a completely government controlled welfare state for a long time, and Obama is only going to accelerate that.
But in any case, he has the floor now and we should see what he can do.
In retrospect, Marx got it pretty much wrong. And its the same case today. Capitalism does not need kicked to the curb. But, if it is necessary, the government should be allowed to put loose, temporary, restrictions on capitalism (ala the OLD union systems), and the system will be made right.
An economic revolution is still a revolution, and giving any country a shock like that is destined to be worse off in the long run. Capitalism just needs to be weened into restrictions, and after it has stabilized, it can then be weened off.
... you know its congress that passes laws right?
"There was no threat from Hussein other than to his own people."
And that`s all that matters right? Because only Americans are real people, drat all the stupid sand n*ggers!
"Yay for impending socialism."
Are you seriously this ignorant? The cold war is over, you can stop believing what the government told you about how the slightest deviation from raw "rape your mother" capitalism is the exact same thing as being a Russian citizen. Capitalism is broken. It was never designed for the type of world we now live in. You can`t still use a system designed for a world where people survived by trading fur for seed in a world with multi-billion dollar corporations. poo needs to be fixed, and NO, retards of America, that does NOT mean we all have to move to drating Russia you dumb poos.
"I have a good feeling about the next 8 years."
Don`t be so roostery.
Your kidding right? That whole area hates the US and Isreal. He wouldnt comply to UN inspection. But of course.... since when has the UN done anything to really enforce something?
You`re kidding right? The menace comes from Osama bin Laden, which if I recall Bush never did get. There was no threat from Hussein other than to his own people.
Hussein never attacked the US - it was bin Laden that did. My God, how brainwashed can you be?
You obviously don`t know anything about different cultures producing different thought, and even more obvious is you lack of political knowledge.
Let me guess, you probably think Pauly Shore is funny too right?
Let`s hope he can dodge explosive shells and bullets as well as Bush could dodge shoes!
also democrat or republican makes no matter to me, let`s just see how the next 4 years turn out.
I heard it from my teacher (who supports Obama), and is a science teacher, who got it from an european science journal. that was just the first i found.
"I also don`t hate him for the things you listed, just more on the war crimes he`s committed and the dirty stuff that was going on during the 2000 election."
War crimes? exaggeration. and 2000 election? Supreme Court already said that Kerry had no right to call for that recount and all the other mysteries cant be directly credited to him, it would just be assumptions
I`m not going into anything else though because there is no changing anyone`s opinions.
I also don`t hate him for the things you listed, just more on the war crimes he`s committed and the dirty stuff that was going on during the 2000 election.
I have a good feeling about the next 8 years. When I was all over Europe two weeks ago I was proud to tell people where I was from. I can`t wait to see what the future of this country will be like.
I reward it with a cookie!
(I`m being sarcastic people, don`t freak out)
Look at Bucchannan, he did nothing pre-Civil War as to not upset either side... look how that turned out.
There are people in the Middle East who are raised to hate the United States and Israel, to say that they aren`t threats is ignorant.Sadam didn`t show us his hand, so we assumed the worst. The Iraqi`s are starting to set up a democracy and we have been moving troops out for a while (funny the media hasn`t reported that... what they`ve been clamoring over for years they`re doing).
Sure there may be a few things that arent defendable, but what president doesn`t have that?
Lincoln arrested the Supreme Court Justice because he disagreed with him yet he is venerated.
Neither Gore or Kerry could`ve handled this situation any better
*tries to support his president*
Well you seem like a happy person today!
I KNOW I AM!!!
At least there`s no more president Bush. : )But we still have to put up all this "Faith-Based Initiative" bull$#*t, and Obama got Rick Warren, the VERY fundamentalist Christian mega-church pastor. F*<kin` eh.
That`s *my* thing. Give it back.
Then he announced a one trillion dollar "stimulus" package, and I lost all hope.
In three years time, the middle class will be paying that back via taxes. Welcome to 4 years of tax and spend!
Best not crew this up mte. Or they`ll have y`er head, aye?
It` on the tele right now
May his presidency be one of growth
