People are so quick to quote catchy phrases like "suicide is not the answer" "sucide is a permenant solution to a temporary problem." Then how about "don`t knock it until you`ve tried it" :P?

Instead of taking out his family, why didn`t he just take out the bastard who fired him? I guess when I get to Hell I can ask him.

The husband also had diabetes, which can explain odd behaviour at times.
But I`m not saying that that`s an excuse for how he acted and what he did.

My dad sat me down yesterday and all serious-like told me how even though the times are hard, him and my mom are probably not going to lose their jobs and if they did, it wouldn`t come to this.

I was like, "Thanks for reassuring me you won`t go batsh*t crazy on the family?"

that`s absolutely right, saintnick; the unnecessary and tragic loss of five small children is a perfect platform for your anti-abortion rhetoric. way to be a real man.

If I`d been him I`d have tied the revolver to the pet dog or rabbit, write lots of things in a journal, post dated, saying stuff about thinking the pet is plotting to kill me and then left an interesting mystery for the cops.... But then I`m just odd with a sick sense of humor.

if another similar incident happened, why aren`t they investigating an emerging serial killer with this MO? sounds fishy to me.

truly tragic, all the way round..

wonder if society could picture all 5 of these kids, very much younger, as partial birth abortion procedures & still feel the same way

what a slippery slope of morals society believes in

A sad story, but not related to the economy. The husband and wife had good jobs. They were fired for scamming the company they worked for. Saw this on CNN.

his kids were from 2 years old to 8. How can you kill your own children? Their innocence? How could you End your own blood, through what, money? Your Disgusting, you lost your job and Fell, and could not rise? You are everything i could never be, for that, your are Nothing.

The suicide rate in "developed" nations is much higher than that in third world countries.

So what im trying to say is... suck it up

Ive been reading this story all day. On Aol, in the NY Post. Its horrible that this guy had to resort to this. They are stating also it was the wifes idea as well. So it wasnt just the father. They said they wanted to off themselves but didnt want to leave the children in foster care.

I dunno to this to point a gun at 5 childrens faces and shoot them is just horrible to me.

I see stuff like this and what I think is the fact that most people seem to think that it`s someone elses fault when they do not save, rack up debt, don`t educate themselves about how money works in the real world and generally think that their standard of living should be either constant or always rising. Then the poo hits the fan, they blame "society" the Government or ...whatever on all their woes and in the worst case scenario decide to murder 4 innocent people on their way out.

I think it`s cheap and weak and screw him... especially for the children. The botom line is many Americans have been living well above their means and now it`s catching up to them. Unlike people like myself who have zero problems because we educate ourselves about things that matter... like the current economic situation. People have absolutely no excuse and need to stop friggin complaining. I would say 90% of complainers have only themselves to blame.

Wow, this happened literally a couple blocks away from where I live...

Wilmington is such a horrible town, just last year there was two gang related deaths in the same month and a raid on a hotel run by gangs which of course led to gunfire. I can`t wait to move out of here.

I love how they begin the whole story by saying HE MAY HAVE KILLED. MAY HAVE. Thus covering their asses if indeed he did NOT kill his family and they were found running in the streets screaming APRIL FOOLS!

But no, they continue the story as if he did indeed kill them and himself, and everyone jumps to that conclusion as well, ruling out any suspicion that maybe a thug did it.

Anyway...it sucks when kids are sucked into adult world problems. In no way shape or form should you ever off yourself, but for drat sake leave everyone else out of it.

If they were fired, why not just collect unemployment?

Killing your own kids is just horrible and heartless. L.A is F*D.

Suicide is NEVER the answer. EVER. I don`t care how bad your situation is, there are ALWAYS other options. Not to mention killing the rest of your family...

I thought this was "I Am Bored" not "I Am Depressed" Most people come to this site for a quick chuckle. and `escape` from this kind of awfulness, if you will.

This is terrible. There are options and plenty of opportunity around.

I really dont understand what goes through the minds of these people. To kill yourself is one thing but to do it to your own children is beyond me.

Lost my job last week and my car motor threw a rod 5 days earlier. I sure as hell have no desire to off myself or anyone else! There were lots of other things those parents could have done!!! If they had to go to work at McDonald`s to bring in a paycheck, that`s what they should have done! This wasn`t an act of desperation, it was selfish killing the kids!! Isn`t there ANY good news these days???? Geez!!!!

Ok, it`s NEVER that serious that it should`ve came anywhere close to that. They have a better house than the one I grew up in and if you can`t find a job you better take your ass down to the local supermarket and starting bagging some s hit. Damn shame.

Real shame.... I don`t cope well when kids are involved. I was saying in an earlier thread how parents successes and failures shouldn`t be the main impact on kids.

This is a very extreme example of that.
As far as I`m concerned all governments should provide:
Food.
Water.
Rudimentary housing. (Studio apartment irrespective of child numbers).
Education to a high school level.
Universal Healthcare.

A child should be able to go from 0-16 without financial dependence on parents.

This of course applies to parents who can`t afford their own stuff.

Effectively, I think governments should care more about how their citizenry is raised than what they can or cannot have.

Not surprised its happening in California, the credit crunch capital of the world.

Don`t get me wrong, it is a sad story and such events are extremely likely to happen during such economic times. But I`m finding it very hard to find any empathy at all for these two to have given up like this.

It would be hard, but Child Services would have been an option instead of killing the children.
