He hasn"t worked for 2 years yet he makes six figures just by what some call "legal extortion."

And yes, I realise that this is extortion, not advocacy, but extortion is awesome, and who cares about being an asshat as long as you`re a RICH asshat.

Well taking money away from the business isn`t going to help them. Why can`t some sort of, put-up-wheelchair-access-in-2-weeks-or-I-sue-you thing be worked out?

i do hate batman. he should be jailed. and this isn`t capitilsm this is goverment regulation ruining small buisnesses just like the democrats always do. if this law didn`t exist then this man wood be slightly inconvienced and a 1000 buisnesses woodn`t lose money that couldve caused them to cut an employee or raise prices.

You guys should learn to capitalism.

If you hate this guy then you hate the Batman.

Can you use capitalism as a verb like that?... anyways, Batman is fictional, this guy is a real life non-nice individual that deserves to get some real justice, via a fist into his fat face.

Oh this f*cking guy!!!! I don`t know him personally, but I know who he is. Me, living in California, and at one time worked at a resturant. A resturant he ended up going to and `complaining.` He did it to a lot of resturants in my town. He has been this for years.

The reason he is in a wheelchair, is he got in a motorcylce accident when he was 18. I think now he is in his 30`s or 40`s. It was a huge article in the paper in my area when he started hitting the resturants left and right. All he do is going in the resturant to "use" the restroom. He wouldn`t actually eat there or anything. Man I hate this guy!!!

To take the other side, this is a great example of capitalism. Assuming that we want this act to be enforced (which seems reasonable), the state could pay inspectors itself, or it could put the contract up for anyone to take, as it were. This guy is essentially a freelance contractor for the State of California, who gets paid by the job. When you think of it that way, it`s not so bad.

When you consider that the State wants not only to catch businesses with violations but to deter them from cutting corners by fining them, they`re killing two birds with one stone by letting the fine pay for the inspection. I think it`s pretty clever.

They should pass a law about it.

If he`s suing because there isn`t a ramp, well, they should be fined.

If he actually incurred injury attempting to go up stairs, well, receiving money would make sense. But all he`s doing is pointing crap out.

1) People should follow the law and make their businesses disabled friendly
2) There probably should be someone who makes sure that businesses disabled friendly, makes sure they are adhering to the law (better that their disabled!)
3) Businesses should be allowed to fix their problems before they are told to pay a huge wad of cash.

Theres no way its advocacy.. its extortion plain and simple. I can`t believe I`m agreeing with a lawyer on money related issues, or in favour of big business, but they should have been awarded the chance to fix the problem before being sued.

And also.. and this gets me, why should be be the one to benefit from this compensation money? If he cared about his advocacy cause Im sure it would go to a disabled charity.

I can`t stand people like him. If he wasn`t disabled Id say the same thing I say about everything - send him for national service.

Oh, what a poor, mistreated man - he has to sit up a little straighter to look in the mirror at a burger joint. I can`t even imagine having to go ever so slightly out of my way to do normal everyday things like that. It must be ever so slightly terrible to have to live like that...
</sarcasm>

I`d like to see if he still has the same sh*t eating grin when he drives all the businesses into bankruptcy and the only places that can afford to stay open in California will be McDonalds and WalMart.

~parkm, under normal circumstances, yes - that would be a horrible, thoughtless thing to say. Under these circumstances, I only ask that you let me take one of said legs to clobber him senseless at least a few times. No no, make that quite a few times. Just a few times wouldn`t quite drive the point home well enough. Plus, he`d still have enough brain cells to sue me.

"He cant touch me that is a major violation."

Not if you give them permission, he asked first to him, he didn`t touch him then ask.

And the mirror complaint...that was a little outragous

Soon California will see what he is doing (or ever state i forgot i`ll be honest) but anywho they are going to see what ever he is doing and make that illegal like alot of states has done.
then what he is going to do now? haha!! =-D

"He`s a smart man."

No he isn`t. You don`t need to be smart to take advantage of a poorly written legal system. What he is doing is disgusting. He is taking advantage of small businesses that often don`t make enough money to survive heavy law suits.

He is a sh*t.

The disabilities act is BS anyhow.

By law every store needs a handicapped spot, and depending on the size of the store, they need equivalent amounts.
If zero handicapped people visit your store, you still need to have a handicapped accessible areas.

There are plenty of wheelchair bound people who lead normal lives and go to work like normal people do. I also think the places should know they need to have wheelchair accessible entrances but I don`t think he needs to go around being a vigilante and making loads of money off of it.

That`s disgusting. I mean, I understand that it`s difficult to get around in a wheelchair, but that`s kind of a self-serving way to advocate a cause. He certainly doesn`t donate that money to any worthy cause--other than himself, apparently.
