I hate it when people start whining over stuff that seems violent, but not is at all, and I`d just love to go and punch `em in the face, and I`m really sorry if I`m one of those right now, but weren`t most of those pictures just decapitated children, crying, destruction, blood and gore? Was the guy who made this the world`s cold-hearted sadistic bastard or something?

Kansas barn stormin` was a pretty cool pic.

"that one of the chinese student still clutching his pencil made me tear up "

That picture made me laugh!

Funnies one by far is the picture with Jordanians playing in the snow. I just hope they stay away from the yellow kind!

It makes you feel for the victims of the Chinese Earthquake. Especially with the one child policy... they lost their only child! How sad.

For some reason I was more upset about Seoul losing its historic gate than the deaths of 70,000 Chinese citizens.

Indeed Baalthazaq. There are Muslims buried in Arlington national cemetery.

I liked the one with the woman (child in arms) struggling against the riot cops the best.

Still my favourite: Something a lot of people just don`t seem to be able to understand.

For context: Naqvi was a Muslim, a native of Pakistan (he emigrated to the U.S. with his family when he was 8 years old and became a citizen at 16) and a U.S. Army officer.

I would really appreciate a graphic warning, next time. And FFS, this isn`t the first time I would have liked a warning. You`re slipping I-A-B.

the Romanian fireworks display was really beautiful! i know that firework photos are cliche, but this one seemed to bathe the landscape in a greenish light that made it seem like a fantasy land.
i know my last comment was sarcastic but this one was genuine

You can`t really call these the best of 2008, because most were depressing... And so was 2008.

"I don`t understand how the hole hula hoop pic was so great."

Same here, lol.
It just struck me how sometimes photojournalism can be just... wow. Like someone`s suffering right in front of you and you just snap a pic and move on.

I don`t understand how the hole hula hoop pic was so great.

I love looking at the year in pics, most of them are so heartbreaking to look at.. but the duckies brought a smile to my face

Definitely a bad year for this world. It was the worst year of my life, also. It was good to see some positive photos listed, though.

"Kansas barn stormin`", "Turf war?" and "Palestinian protesters gassed" were my favorites, because the first was just a beatiful photo of nature`s power, the second was just really cool, and the last just because they were standing under an olive tree, which made it interesting, war in a peaceful zone.

Typing `first` as a comment, and nothing else, should lead to a 3 Day Suspension. :D

Let`s see who complains over the "first" post because they are upset over having to read one word that is not offending and that they can easily ignore...
