Remember the girl who sent 14,000 text messages in a month last week? This girl has her beat--by a lot.

lol the first day i got my phone i sent like 1000 txts. maybe more. and thats only outgoing. plus theres the character limit...unless i send to verizon... but i usually dont. all my friends have t-mobile or sprint. some do have verizon though which in my opinion, is the best. you know it when your bf has sprint and you have 8 bars where hes got none when your in the same room. yepp. verizons the best.

Holy f-ck. Why? Just... why?
How much would her bill have cost? The other story averaged the amount without the unlimited plan.

Eh. I swear, if my hypothetical kid ever went that far with their texting, I would break their phone and tell them that if they want a new one and if they want texting, it`s coming out of their pocket, not mine.

what do you have to be texting about that you need that many texts? are you communicating by 1 word per text? or is this the most interesting thing on earth to talk about and they cant be bothered to say it out loud by using the phone for what it was originally made for?

Reading through the comments, im seeing alot of people saying she has no life. Since im in training to be a lawyer, i will defend her. She does have a life, since shes texting alot. Probably alot of friends too since you cant get all those texts just from one person... No life is those people that play those games like Halo 3 and World of Warcraft all day an dont even go outside and have no friends, what im saying is that this girl does have a life. She even has a boyfriend, so *slams book shut* case closed

Tch.. the titles misleading, she had an unlimited plan so its only like 30 bucks for that, nothing more. An the dad isn`t encouraging the daughter to text more, thats why he got her a phone without a keyboard encouraging would be giving her like a 1,000$ for teting so much and saying, good job

How can she move her fingers?
Surely with that much messaging she must have the worst RSI since that guy that made sculptures out of tape!

How can anyone even have that much to say? Did she replace verbalising every thought (like my sis does...) with txting every thought ever to pop into her head? She must have a roaring social life.

But why is her name spelled wrong?

"haha. wow. i only text about 2500 messages a month..."
ONLY 2500?

"Just before Christmas, Emilee wore out her phone because she was texting so much. Her father switched her to a different provider and got her a phone without a keyboard."
This makes me rage even more. Rather than stopping her from texting, the father encourages her to keep on doing it. I don`t care if she`s getting good grades either.

They better reign that girl in. Within the next 2 years she`s going to want to drive, and I sure as hell hope I`m not sharing a road with her while she`s texting and driving. I`d almost rather share the road with drunks. At least they`re watching the road.

I think it`s funny, (and sad), how they quoted her and her paragraphs where full of poor grammar and spelling. Texting and the Internet will ruin/change the way we read, if anyone reads.
Imagine in the future reading some random novel full of sentences like this....

"And my boyfriend and i talk about random things. He`s the main reason my texting is so high becuz we`re constantly texting. Lol"

And yea, other than in the middle of class, I don`t get the point of texting. It`s much easier to just call the person and talk.

And moogandi, I loled at your avatar. Genius.

How is the phone bill impressive? If she has unlimited texting that`s $30 MAX (probably around 20) unless the impressiveness was directed at the length of the phone bill?

Hellllooooooooo Carpal Tunnel.

Seriously man, carpal tunnel sucks. I was working 6 hours a day on this paper (I don`t know why) for the past 2 weeks and I developed repetitive stress syndrome. I`m going to try to take a break from typing for the next week.

"It keeps her from being bored, and it keeps her out of trouble."

True... and I suppose as long as she continues to get good grades it doesn`t matter that much. I`m just worried at how much people are disconnecting from that 70% of communication that ISN`T in the words but the vocal inflection, facial expression, and mannerisms. In 50 years are we still going to be able to interact together without any other distractions?

35,000 on her bill? Or 35,000 sent?

Because many cell phone plans charge for both incoming and outgoing text messages.

Therefore, you could easily half that if that was her whole bill.

I have anywhere from 2-3,000 text messages on my bill monthly, but I only send out maybe a third of that.

And I agree with sixclaws13: it`s easy to pause in the middle of a sentence to sort things out. It`s not a matter of interpersonal skills so much as an ability to sort your thoughts.

If you can`t do that, surely you can`t text either, because you CAN`T go back and edit your text after it`s already been sent.

Even now, you can`t edit your IMB post, and either way, if you`re texting rapidly enough, do you honestly take the time to reread through each message to make sure it`s exactly how you meant to say it?

sixclaws13, I`ll admit too, in some situations (such as emotional situations where word choice is critical) I`ll pause to make sure the best word choice is used but to add to what my professor said, he told us that when he talks to employers who have graduates from my school and asks how things are going, the number one response is that they can`t communicate. What if these kids grow up to be doctors in an emergency room and some guy is bleeding out and they haven`t learned to make a decision and COMMUNICATE it effectively in a high stress environment. What happens when that guy dies and they have to talk to the family..are they just going to send them a text? No, they will have to talk face to face and communicating bad news to someone who is visibly about to fall apart right in front of you is tough and impossible if all you`ve done is text or email. It is just do impersonal and no matter how well you know someone you can`t have relationship via text..

not sure how these people manage to do this. it`s hard to keep on top of two conversations, since recieving a text interrupts the one you are working on. oh well, i guess im just not cool~

I bet that dad is glad they have an unlimited plan. at the old cost of 10c a text, he would be paying $3500 in just text messages.

also, I would be worried if she was sending that many texts. I remember what I used to AIM chat about with girls...and I was one of the good kids. her being a cheerleader doesn`t help her character if shes like the cheerleaders that I knew.

There`s a Guinness World Record for faster texter, I believe. I think I read it in one of their books.

tonyjet, not necessarily. you see texts are based on both outgoing AND incoming. so if you`re talking to 3 people at the same time (via text) you can easily rack up 100 texts in a 30 minutes period. thats only 17 texts to each of them and a response, or you can even have 15 texts to each of them with 20 returns from each.

the only problem is you would have to have someone driving you everywhere or riding public transport. and you have to keep that up for all but 8 hours a night when you sleep. there are 720 hours in a month - 240 for sleeping, leaves 480 hours. so 200 texts/hour x 450 hours and assuming you get a response from each = 180k texts...and 30 hours to do with as you please...or roughly 1 hour a day.

now if you receive 3 texts for every 2 you send (which is a good average), you now can average 150/hour and only takes 400 hours to achieve this, allowing 80 hours a month to do with as you please. enjoy those 80/30 = ~2.5 hours a day.

My international business professor made some excellent points about texting in class today.

1) When someone is texting ad nauseum like these girls are, what is happening to the relationships with the people they are physically around? Texting like that means you are removing yourself from where you really are. He showed an example with a picture in the local newspaper. Volleyball team is about to win like 300 games or something and the coaches are cheering..the student manager..texting.

2. When your primary communication becomes text/email/IM, you start to lose your ability to communicate face to face effectively. With face to face/vocal communication, you need to be able to think on your feet but with texting and the such, you are able to edit what you say before you say it.

Even with typing this, I`m able to go back and edit what I say but if I were to be discussing this with someone I wouldn`t be able to to stop in the middle of my sentence to figure out the best words.

Haha, very true. It also makes the title false.

Also, this counts received messages as well as sent, and obviously you can receive a lot more messages a minute than you can send.

I suspect cheating.

1 per minute of your entire waking month? What about eating, bathing, school, etc?

"A man in India reportedly had 182,689 text messages in a month." That`s one every 9.5 seconds.

Quick note: You can mass text. If you and all your friends are texting all your other friends, lets say there are 5 of you via mass texting, you quadruple the number of texts.

This makes even more sense for the guy in India where massive families are not uncommon. (If he puts his 200+ family members on some sort of daily text message he sends out (Today`s weather is X), he sends 6`000 a month already, for one text a day).

(Incidentally, I`m not exaggerating when I say 200+ family members, I have >100).

People wonder why adults and teens alike are getting stupider every year.......this isn`t strong evidence to NOT take away from school funding. The kids aren`t using it, the parents aren`t making the kids study. Plus, school is too easy anyway. High school did not prepare me for college. I passed every class and did really well. Our school system as well as justice system are jokes. When I have kids, call me what you will, but my kid first off, will understand the value of school and second, have one of those go phone with like 5 minutes on it for emergencies only.
