...in a bathroom at a Cracker Barrel restaurant. If it happened to you, would you turn it in, or keep it?

I wish i could honestly say that i would turn it in, but the truth is i`m not sure. I would most likely give them a certain amount of time to claim it (a week, maybe if i really want to a month) but if they didn`t claim it, i`d keep it. Not reporting it to the police would be stupid. "oh, yea, i just found this in the cracker barrel restroom, i didn`t steal it. i wasn`t trying to hide it from you guys at all...)

Think about this for a second, if the money was legitimate banks are required to report cash transactions over a certain amount to the government. There are plenty of people that still don`t trust banks so they do all transactions in cash but you have to admit it`s very suspicious for someone to be carrying around that much cash.

On a related note, I ate at a Cracker Barrel before, during thanksgiving break, you gotta wait forever to get a table but it IS WORTH IT. expectantly their breakfast pancakes, they are the BEST.

You can`t answer the question if your a male because you wouldn`t be inside a female Cracker Barrel restroom in the first place.

Or can you.......

"That lady who left her purse sounds a little questionable. I mean first she has that much in her purse to begin with. I mean who does that unless they seriously have some illegal activity going on. You don`t need 97,000 dollars at Cracker Barrel. Not only that, but then this lady out of the kindness of her heart gives the money back and the only thing this women says is that she "Really needs the money, but would give her 1,000" Wow thanks lady for making this old women feel bad about taking anything for her trouble. I call shenanigans."

I totally agree. That girl was probably in some real deep poo. How does 97k fit into a purse though? anyone want to test that?

I`d turn it in. Mostly due to worry. I mean... that large an amount? IN cash? Obvious shady business. I don`t know who it was supposed to go to, but I`d be afraid of them coming after me. lol

Listen, if I personally lost 97 000 dollars, I would want somebody to be decent and return it.

Saying that though, I would totally keep a pile of cash I found lying around. And do you know why? Because whoever left it there is a dumbass. Did I just contradict myself?

NO, BECAUSE I WOULD NOT BE STUPID ENOUGH TO LEAVE 97000 LYING AROUND.

Finders keepers douchebags.

Just to warn you guys, messing with drug money, or any kind of illegal money can get you into serious trouble. I`ve worked in North Philly, when you mess with their money, you get shot. Ask that one man who was passing by our store about it. Oh wait no, he`s dead. nevermind.

I`d give it back, probably in the same manner that the woman did.

Why you ask? IT`S NOT MY dratING MONEY!!!

Besides, just put yourself in the shoes of the person missing the money. What would you do if you lost $100,000? Would you really want someone to just take the money because they think they are magically entitled to it by simply finding it?

I`d probably turn it into the cops after taking out 2% as a "finder`s fee." It`s better than taking it all and feeling guilty about someone being out a bunch of money, and it still leaves me some profit out of a windfall.

Plus, if you turn it into the cops, (As IkeRay said before me), if someone claims it, the cops might be able to get a warrant to search their house, and if no one claims it, you get the whole pot. Either way, something good happens.

slepre, that was exactly what happened on a CSI:miami not too long ago. HUGE duffel bag of money, turns out the people were drug dealers. the person who found the bag turned it into the cops. if the drug dealers claim the money, the cops get a warrant to search their premise on the reason there might be drugs to be dealt on the property. if the money is unclaimed, it goes to whomever found it...

I have to believe that $100k in a purse with no ID HAS to be drug dealing or betting money, either way illegal money. if she had turned it into the police station, and there were honest cops working there....(don`t get me started on that), then the lady would`ve been a) arrested for drugs or illegal betting, or b) the finder would`ve earned themselves $100k.

reason I say good cops is because some might take the "unclaimed" money and help the "police station"....

This is coming from a poor college student that doesn`t have much money, but 97,000 is a nice chunk of money and if you have that much what`s the difference of giving $1,000 away? I mean how can you say you realllllly need it when it`s mearly a dent in the amount of money you have?

maybe i would give it to the cops to give back so incase it is for drugs or whatever they can ask her

idk maybe i would take some of it i mean one time i would 40 dollars and took 20 so maybe i would take like 25k idk its hard to say

I`ve given back a wallet with $500 cash in it one time. Called the guy, After I found his phone number, And arranged to meet where it was found.
The non-nice individual not only didn`t even offer a reward, He tried to accuse me of stealing it! Luckily my best friend was with me when I found it, He still kids me about giving it back, And got the guy to back off his accusation. No good deed goes unpunished, Cover your ass if you ever find something like this. Otherwise, If you give it back alone, You could end up in jail.

If the woman needed the money that badly, she wouldn`t have forgotten the bag in the washroom. Nor would she spend money on an apparently very pretty bag.

Yeah... i don`t trust her >.>""

I think she just said that so the woman would refuse the mere $1,000 she DID offer.

I wouldn`t because this is someone`s purse with identifiable items within it. However that kid who found a ton of money on his school campus in the bank bag but without any identifying marks... in that situation I`d have kept the money, no questions asked.

What money? There was no money in here when I came in...

> abbagold
> way to treat a samaritan

The phrase is "GOOD Samaritan". The whole point of the Biblical story of the good Samaritan was that Samaritans were complete bastards, warlike, mean and nasty, no-one at all got on with them, and the injured man and the Samaritan were sworn enemies. Nonetheless, the GOOD Samaritan did the right thing to help an injured man regardless of the fact that he was an enemy. If you go around calling people "Samaritans" without the "Good" in front of it, you`re calling them scum.

Orly!

Reminds me of that person who found a tonne of money, but it was shredded and the police said they could keep it if they could put it back together.

As for what I would do... I really have no idea. I would love to take it and have college pretty much covered, but I`d be scared to at the same time.

Damn. I`d have kept it without any hesitation.
The sad thing is, that I`d get questioned as to why I`m carrying a purse.

Or knowing my luck, the person who it belongs to would notice me trying to sneak it out. But if neither of those happened, I`d totally keep it!

I also agree with everybody calling the owner a jerk, especially abbagold. Why can`t everything be so agreeable all the time, like with Puppies?

Also, think about the strings attached. They find out you take it, you get in big trouble.

Worse, it could be part of some drug deal or scandal. Then you`re neck deep in trouble.
