"product tasting test". kind reminds of the time when people from 3rd world countries were being experimented on without knowing what the side effects were going to be.

i think i can agree with that. i`m actively ignoring their advertisements by not owning a television but if i have a chance to voice my opinion against their actions, even if its just in an online forum, i`m going to. just so people think about something that has become such an accepted part of american culture.

Understandable, and good example from Bose. Its been a while since I have seen one, but from what I remember, the straightforwardness is nice compared to other commercials.

I think though that some industries benefit greatly from the manipulation. Purchasing an audio system can be a worthwhile investment and demands some research. However, fast food usually depends on which restaurant is closest and most convenient. BK needs the manipulation to encourage people to maybe take the extra 2 minutes to get a better tasting burger. That`s just the way these "burger wars" have escalated.

I too would just like to see honest commercials, but, realistically, we`re going to be stuck with the manipulative ones. And of course I want to keep the government out, so people just need to ignore the manipulation. Much easier said than done in today`s society though.

Eventually, I think the information age will help make the transition to honest commercials, but we`ll see.

Wait. Hold the phone. They`re going to GIVE them Whoppers? Are they trying to spread this unhealthy food to all corners of the globe? WHY?! They`re Whopper Virgins for a reason.

i see where you`re coming from dakkar but i still think that companies are truly in the wrong when they market the way they do. you know those bose commercials? those are honest advertisements. they simply state that this product does this well. that`s an international corporation and they choose to not try and manipulate the consumer. i`m not saying we should take any legal measures to change these things, the owners of these corporations just need to not trick the consumer. i`m advocating honest business over manipulation. this commercial, is obvious bullsh*t. they threw a ton of money at something that they wanted to seem really impressive when they should have just told the consumer whats on the sandwich. these big businesses like this make the least sense anyway. everyone already knows what a whopper is and what a big mac is, they`ve already made their decision on what they like more. this money just seems thrown away to me.

Probably go unnoticed but,

amaq, I`m not trying to look down on people. I was merely providing an example of a person who doesn`t rush out and buy the newest whatisit just because of a flashy commercial. I know of plenty of others it was just most convenient to cite myself.

And of course capitalism is run by greed. The basic definition is to spend money to make money. And it is in large part responsible for luxuries and lifestyles we take part in today.

I know that they are greedy and I know that the commercials are a tool. But they aren`t going to stop or tone down until it is apparent that the populace has gotten wise. I`m sorry, but I feel if someone sees an iPhone and can`t control their urge to buy it, then that person deserves all the consequences.

I don`t see a major overhaul to the economic system as necessary. People just have to budget and learn some self-restraint, that should go a long way.

well as long as you aren`t affected on your pedestal then everyone else can eat sh*t. these companies know that they are exploiting people, as heads of these corporations they have a lot of power and they abuse it to squeeze every last penny out of the consumers. i`m no communist but our capitalist system is f*cked and fueled by greed.

I`m not going to blame a company for trying to sell its product. If American citizens are informed consumers they will know what they can and cannot buy, and what is worthwhile and what is not. If not, they purchase outside of their means and we wind up in our current situations.

Materialism is not controlled by the corporations, its controlled by the image people draw of themselves. Perhaps the corporations act as sharks, preying on this human weakness, but don`t we all want to make a dollar?

"People rail against big business and corporations for their supposed inhumanity. I understand its a commercial and its designed to sell products, but instead of paying some actor for a 30 second spot they involve international cultures in a very original idea that I believe has benefited everyone involved."

how do you not think that commercials are completely out of control? its as if they made the materialism of capitalism even more materialistic by making the products image more important than the product itself. how can you not watch tv and be completely baffled by the fact that billions of dollars are spent every year based on the premise that if you watch this commercial then you might buy this product? the state of american capitalism is out of control and commercials are one of the most obvious side effects of that.

One last thing, its a burger, these people won`t balloon to 350 pounds because they sampled one. Even if they had local McDonalds and BKs, were they could get fries and supersizes, they wouldn`t see an obesity problem. Its because they are not half as sedentary as Americans and are active, I would assume, pretty much everyday.

The true problem in America is not solely fast and fatty foods. Most of the problems stem from pure, unadulterated laziness.

And without a shred of hesitation people are bemoaning that America is ruining other cultures!

I think there were those that loved the burgers, however, I felt that the majority felt they were alright, but would prefer their own cuisine, like the last interviewee in Greenland. Hardly an oppressive takeover of a foreign culture.

I also liked how the film crews and producers tried the local food and seemed to genuinely integrate themselves with the inhabitants.

People rail against big business and corporations for their supposed inhumanity. I understand its a commercial and its designed to sell products, but instead of paying some actor for a 30 second spot they involve international cultures in a very original idea that I believe has benefited everyone involved.

this is a commercial, any commercial that tries to come across with some type of integrity is full of sh*t, especially a fast food commercial. this was millions of dollars (at least) spent on all of this, and the only purpose is for you to go buy their food. advertising has become a disgusting thing that shamelessly exploits anything and everything just to make a buck. i blame the 1984 apple commercial.

See a lot of people asking why was burger x or burger y involved? It`s simple really, BK and McD`s are the two largest franchises in the market, and those burgers are their public `face` so-to-say. The testing methods were understandably well done. Don`t see what`s so confusing there. Oh and to this little comment:

"Am I the only one who thought this was sad introducing clearly western crappy culture to people who ultimately don`t need it?"

Shellie84, I took the liberty of correcting your post grammatically so future readers wouldn`t misinterpret the phrase `introducing crappy western culture to` with `introducing crappy western culture on`. Nobody was forced here. But hey, nothing is stopping you from running around like a beheaded chicken outside your local Burger King spouting the evils you saw here today. Then again, they`ll probably just get annoyed with you ruining their meal. Rough world. Tim-tam, anyone?

Maybe this is just me, but at one point they said they needed fast food outlets close enough to the locations that the food wouldnt go cold, or something along those lines- in that case, that proves there is a BK/McD`s near enough to the `test` locations for the people there to have almost definitely heard of them, and probably even tasted them. Maybe I`m just being pessimistic, I dunno.

Ok, as far as fast food goes, I prefer BK to McD. But, c`mon!

"Have you ever had a hamburger? No? Well try these two. They`re made from some of the cheapest materials available and still technically be a hamburger."

Give them a Whopper, Big Mac, and a burger made from some ground chuck and seasoned with something besides a handful of salt and see who picks what.

Secondly, I could just hear the ad dept.: "What if we pitched Whoppers to people who`ve never had burgers before? We could corner the market!" Perhaps I, too, have been reading a bit too much Noam in my semester off...

Finally, I prefer seal meat as well.

1) Why not a Burger from Wendys?
Hardees? KFC`s Burger? A Pizza? The Veal Burgers at La Moda? The Bison Burgers at that place in NC I went to once? Etc.

It was just a quick comparison check.

2) Burger King, in my opinion, has the best ratio of Advert to Reality when it comes to burger presentation. That`s why they`re my fave. (Although KFC does very well in that department too).

Now for the generic points.

I`ve been to a place where no one there has tried real fast food, but they have heard of hamburgers. They even had a "Burger King" there. First time I saw a burger king serve hotdogs.

This was when I was younger. I grow up on processed food. They used REAL non-processed meat. I hated it. I wasn`t used to it. Now that I think about it, if I were to try it now, I would probably like it.

And it doesnt surprise me that people who`ve never tried it prefer the whopper. It taste closer to regular meat.

"truth to a point- They key to advertisement. They may not be professional actors but they are people taken off the street and told what to say, what to wear and what to do."

Uhh... no. Trust me. They would have the biggest lawsuit from Macdonalds.

"The question is, why wasn`t there a burger from wendy`s an option?"

We`re talking about real fast food chains. They offer potatoes... drat them.

"Show me a whopper that ACTUALLY looks like that from a Burger King, and ill show you that i`ve been keeping jesus in a small room in my house."

YOU`VE BEEN KEEPING JESUS!!! Because all my whoppers look like that. They know me by memory down there.

I agree I don`t see it how it did not make them sick for awhile.
I went camping out in the woods for about a month and ate only what I hunted or found like berrys and the like. Then when I came back and went to Burger king and got a burger it made me sick for awhile. It took me about a week to get used to junk food and the like. I would think that spending your whole life instead of just a month without crap food you would be a lot worse off than I was.

I can`t put much into these videos. It`s completely biased and full of lies as most advertisement is.

You`ll never find out truthfully which is better because although they put in some "Big mac" selections, the vast majority is whopper or no preference to ensure that it looks like they either don`t know or chose the whopper as the vast majority. It`s a commercial and full of lies..
