So, I could understand if the underwear just had the credit card statement on them...but there were more words to it on the back. The woman herself said she didn`t even look on the backside. Am I one of the only chicks here that thinks that it is kinda...stupid? I don`t know...two things confuse me: 1. Feminists and 2. PETA.

Way to stay classy Wal-Mart.

I swear, that store has the biggest collection of moronic management dickheads the world has ever seen.

For kids? Yeah, that`s kind of inappropriate. >.>

I never really cared about novelty undies anyway. Who`s going to see them? >.>

I do think these are inappropriate for children, but the juniors department is so middle of the road. I mean, *I* shop in the juniors department, clothing from the woman`s department just doesn`t fit me, so I could very well see myself buying these, I mean they are cute. Though they are from Wal-Mart and everyone knows Wal-Mart is the den of Satan.

I have to agree with HOLYCRAP1234 on this one; why put text on panties in the first place?

Reminds me of this http://money.cnn.com/2002/05/22/news/com...

And most of the people who shop in the juniors section are 13-17 year old young women. They should have really put that in the adult section. But I am quite suprised that wal mart whould have something like that

Asjo, Tae kwon do lessons don`t really help much. Try having her learn Muay Thai or something.

I don`t understand why panties have text on them. A t-shirt would make sense, but panties?! What the hell? And feministing.com xDDDD

"Jessica Valenti, the executive editor of Feministing.com, wrote on the panty blog post."

Feministing..? HAHAHA.

I think if these panties were hurting Wal*Mart`s business, then yeah they should`ve been removed. They have a reputation to keep as a business.

As a parent I would definitely skip buying these for my kid. Forget the whole feminist argument, it`s tacky and it teaches a bad message. This pretty much hits in the face of good taste. I don`t worry so much that it gets worse with every generation, just that I want to teach my kid that she has value in all of her so I am trying to help her be the "whole package" - that she is a pretty girl with brains and can kick someone`s butt if she has to :-) with Tae Kwan Do lessons and sports. I am not so sure anyone has ever watched the musical Gigi where her family brought her up to appraise the value of what men can offer her in money but taught her nothing of the magic and joy of love and tenderness. What I try to instill in her is the fact she is smart, beautiful and capable of living in this world on her terms - and doesn`t have to trade her intangibles for something that won`t add to her happiness.

I think the lot of them are disillusioned. In our society today it`s not quite as easy to isolate a single article of clothing and ban it for the message it seems to convey to children. Something is fundamentally *wrong* here, and it`s only going to get worse and worse as each generation deteriorates in priorities and fashion and values. Want to hit female objectification and promiscuity where it hurts? Target music, not a single pair of pink novelty panties.

"...because the LOGICAL thing to assume is that, y`know, girls shouldn`t worry about financial issues since they have a cooter and will someday have a sugar daddy (or a pimp) who goes by "Santa""

I knew a pimp named santa

The juniors department isn`t even for little kids, or at least here it isn`t o_o Juniors is basically for teenagers and any adult that can`t fit in the clothes in the adult section very well. I`m almost 18 and I still shop in the juniors section for everything including underwear :P

I think maybe some people are just reading into it entirely too much. Not surprising though.

Hmmm in the junior departments.... well yeah.. but the whole thing is just misplaced in the first place. Who needs credit cards... if you have Santa. A dumb saying, but whatever... parents will flip their lids about anything..

They wouldn`t have made such a stink over this if the text was printed on a t-shirt, so why fuss over some panties? People these days are so quick to be offended anymore...

I think those women took that way out of context.
"`There`s nothing quite like telling adolescent girls that they don`t need to worry about finances since they have their very own moneypot between their legs.`" Where the f-ck is that implied on the undergarments? Or is that just what YOU thought when you saw it? If so, I think you have bigger problems...

also, the title of the article needed to stop at panties:

Wal-mart Yanks Pink Novelty Panties...."down?" I read it as "wal-mart employee yanks pink novelty panties" and expected down here. it would`ve made for a MUCH more interesting article.

1) how is it risque? as long as only the girls are seeing it (and maybe giggling with their friends or family about them), any panties with prints should be considered risque then seeing as the only reason for the print is to show it off.

2) define "Juniors" department. are they talking young teens or younger, or just the adults who aren`t full size?

it was funny, at first i was like "oh, walmart has become anti credit card?" then i read what the back said "when you have santa" and i immediately thought "so that`s why he has them sit on his lap"

i then punched myself in the face until i beat those thoughts out of my head

"I like noticing the age group of people who say there`s nothing wrong with them."

you mean 13-17, 18-29, thats about half the age ranges on this site, it wasnt only 13-17 this time

ontopic, thats rediculous, btw, FEMINISTING.COM!, so its a feminist trying to protect girls from...themselves wanting a pimp

It is kinda slutty. But my question is why is Wal-Mart being so careful with this sorta thing but yet a long while back there was this girl who had bought some sandals that really fked up her feet. She got a rash and went though a lot of pain but it took practically an act of God for Wal-Mart to even recognize that there was a problem and remove those sandals. Something to think about...

...because the LOGICAL thing to assume is that, y`know, girls shouldn`t worry about financial issues since they have a cooter and will someday have a sugar daddy (or a pimp) who goes by "Santa"

Assuming that the phrase was intended to mean something innocent like, "Santa`s gonna bring you all sorts of gifts, so you don`t need to worry about spending money on yourself" is completely ludicrous.
