The Carol of the Christmas Pickle

We all know that story of Rudolph and Frosty, but do you know the story of the Christmas Pickle?

The pickle ornament on the Christmas tree is an urban legend that has grown into a tradition for some. Rumour initially attributed this tradition to Germany, but there is no evidence to support those roots.

But who cares, it`s fun - my family has done it for the last few years.

It`s creepy how they sing about how tasty they are. They must be cannibals.

"How does finding pickles make more commercialization?"

Quite simple, my opie friend, selling pickle ornaments, to carry on German "tradition." It`s not that I dislike it. I mean gee, my family does it as well, slightly modified though. It`s just the made up origin that`s really irritating.

When I was younger I almost got my best friend`s family a pickle ornament. The catalog I saw it in, claimed it was a German tradition and his Mom was from Germany.
I decided against it, but I asked him about it anyway and He said he had never heard of it. He asked his mom, she`d never heard of it, and so on.
Bogus glass pickles, German tradition my butt.

I still wonder about the whole pepermint pig thing... probably fake too.

I like the pickle tradition.

It`s a family tradition for me, regardless of its origins.

The pickle tradition is bogus. Some manufacturer of ornaments made it up to sell them.

This is NOT a German tradition. It is said by Americans that it is a German tradition but it was actually made up for more holiday commercialization. No joke. No one in Germany has ever heard of such a "tradition."

Reminds me of this tradition my family and I do every Christmas morning.

We have this pickle ornament that always goes on the tree last. My mom hides it somewhere on the tree before I get up Christmas morning, and I have to find it before I can open any presents. I heard it was a German tradition... though I don`t think I`m German... haha.
