Cool beans. The only bad part from the video seemed to be you`ll need a new saw and probably a whole new stopping mechanism if it is activated.

I wouldn`t want to lose a finger, but this could get expensive for accident prone individuals.

Or you could just not be an idiot and use a table saw properly. But it is kinda cool. Saves idiots` fingers everywhere. More to type obnoxious IAB comments with. Perhaps to flame myself for calling them idiots to begin with.

Hmmm.... $60? I wouldn`t like to pay that when the machine is screwed everytime something conductive comes in contact with it. I mean wouldn`t that mean water from wet wood, rain or condensation would cause it to break? Or a tiny piece of metal.

dude tried to sell this idea, fully fleshed out, to various manufacturers, but had no takers because it was `too expensive`. So essentially it`s better to have ten people chop off fingers and absorb the cost of treating them as a society than it is to build in a mechanism that will save people from the trauma and expense of either being an amputee or having major re-constructive surgery into freaking TABLE SAWS, which have a somewhat limited market in the first place.
yeah. that`s how the utterly free market works.
or fails to, in this case.

I bet this fails a real test, who the hell accidentally puts their finger into a saw blade that slowly? If he were to move his hand at normal speed into it, I bet it still puts a giant gash in it. It might not amputate it, but it will still end badly.

    WTF do you mean?
HE was moving relatively quickly, any faster and it would probably kick the wood up instead of cutting it.

He sure got faith in his creation there...I think if they`d asked me it would`ve been like this: "Well...you know, things can still go wrong...and you know this is still the prototype and stuff."
"So you`re not gonna do it?"
"Nope, instead I`m going to use a sausage to demonstrate it again"

actually, this saw sucks. (didnt watch the vid) but if it showed the aluminum piece that it tears to poo, that piece costs (it was either 250 or 500 dollars) and sometimes when wood is too wet or moist, the saw detects the elecrical change and slams down, and your out 250-500 bucks. i would rather just be smart and watch my fingers than have to pay hundreds every time a piece of wood is too wet.

Ashley, there are no issues at all. We`ve got one of these in the woodshop at my school - and I watched someone put their thumb into it. Other than a loud THUD scaring the poo out of everything...he had a nick, lesser than a papercut. This poo`s amazing.

That wasnt really a gamble though. With his finger moving that slow, he would have felt it sting and removed his finger from the blade before he would get more than just a small cut.

this is a really great saw. basically dont think of it as killing the machine, think of it as an air bag once the air bag comes out you gotta replace it. were getting one of these for my construction class
they need to incorporate this into routers almost took off my middle finger last year

i knew the concept worked. Just like I know seatbelts and helmets worked. But even though I know they worked, I wouldn`t go to such extreme to test them.

well, wich would you like?choping of a finger,or paying 60 bucks for a new sawstop moduel and sawblade, but it would be bad to wreck the saw,but...hey,its a small price, and it doesnt wreck the saw itself, only the sawstop equipment and the saw blade.by the way,i saw this on a show called timewarp.this is the episode i saw.lol,im using the word saw alot.

I think this is actually an amazing invention!
    Revoloutionary I see...
The only down side is the `stoppage` of the actual machine, Not only does it crash the system BUT it could go outta control and parts could go flying everywhere.. Not only that, but the electricity conducted could be transferred lethally =/
None the less.. Its great =)

    Long overdue!

I`ve personally seen two very gory accidents on table saws while doing construction years ago.

Man, his creation or not, you know that guy had to be sweating bullets just before touching that blade.

Link stopped working. Not sure if it`s the exact same clip, but the same invention i`m pretty sure.
