Link stopped working. Not sure if it`s the exact same clip, but the same invention i`m pretty sure.

Long overdue!

I`ve personally seen two very gory accidents on table saws while doing construction years ago.

Man, his creation or not, you know that guy had to be sweating bullets just before touching that blade.

`You`re not going to try this at home right? Right?`

No b*tch, I`m about to go get my saw blade and try it out right now :D

I think this is actually an amazing invention!
Revoloutionary I see...
The only down side is the `stoppage` of the actual machine, Not only does it crash the system BUT it could go outta control and parts could go flying everywhere.. Not only that, but the electricity conducted could be transferred lethally =/
None the less.. Its great =)

Thats a great invention right there. Just imagine if it messed up and his finger went flying though. Talk about fail.

should incorparate that into drills.saw an accedent with a huge industrial drill in american chopper.the head fabricator was drilling when his hand got twisted around the drill, blood was all over it.peices of his skin were hanging off,and blood was coming out.his glove was mangled.it took weeks for it to heel.

well, wich would you like?choping of a finger,or paying 60 bucks for a new sawstop moduel and sawblade, but it would be bad to wreck the saw,but...hey,its a small price, and it doesnt wreck the saw itself, only the sawstop equipment and the saw blade.by the way,i saw this on a show called timewarp.this is the episode i saw.lol,im using the word saw alot.

i knew the concept worked. Just like I know seatbelts and helmets worked. But even though I know they worked, I wouldn`t go to such extreme to test them.

this is a really great saw. basically dont think of it as killing the machine, think of it as an air bag once the air bag comes out you gotta replace it. were getting one of these for my construction class
they need to incorporate this into routers almost took off my middle finger last year[i wouldn`t be able to flick anyone off]

@yess_finn: well, if your finger is all dry, as soon as you cut into the skin, it will be wet, so it will stop.

I saw this on tv

But still, even if you have that safety thing, always safe than story. Don`t try to jam your finger in a a table saw

@dude
I didn`t mean the wood, I mean his finger. If you`re going to accidentally put your finger in a saw, you`re gonna do it fairly quickly and not very slowly like he did.
0

Female 1,545
By the way, was anyone else`s sound complete crap in this vid?

My uncle actually severed the entire tip of his finger with a table saw. I think he would be most interested in investing in one of these babies.

Male 17
Thats nuts. Its a pretty smart invention.
0
Reply
Male 901
That wasnt really a gamble though. With his finger moving that slow, he would have felt it sting and removed his finger from the blade before he would get more than just a small cut.

Ashley, there are no issues at all. We`ve got one of these in the woodshop at my school - and I watched someone put their thumb into it. Other than a loud THUD scaring the poo out of everything...he had a nick, lesser than a papercut. This poo`s amazing.

Female 165
I hope they fix the issues of stopping it soon. My father really needs a table saw like this, he`s always building, or laying wood, or something that requires cutting.

Male 45
um tkd master if you would have watched the video the pieces only cost 60 or 70 bucks and your fingers is wet and salty and if u can find me some wet and salty wood that ur gonna use ill call u an ass cuz nobody puts wet wood on a table saw the nerve of some people :-|

this is super cool. cut my finger in the blade in a meat deli i worked at once. i wonder when theyll figure out a way around that?

o and by the way, that didnt even look like his finger. it was at a weird angle and u cant see the base of it.

Male 4,793
actually, this saw sucks. (didnt watch the vid) but if it showed the aluminum piece that it tears to poo, that piece costs (it was either 250 or 500 dollars) and sometimes when wood is too wet or moist, the saw detects the elecrical change and slams down, and your out 250-500 bucks. i would rather just be smart and watch my fingers than have to pay hundreds every time a piece of wood is too wet.

This is incredible. Gotta agree with ruswut though; wouldn`t a piece of wet wood or moisture in the air have the same effect?

He sure got faith in his creation there...I think if they`d asked me it would`ve been like this: "Well...you know, things can still go wrong...and you know this is still the prototype and stuff."
"So you`re not gonna do it?"
"Nope, instead I`m going to use a sausage to demonstrate it again"
"AWESOME!"
"Why yes, yes it is"

WTF do you mean?
HE was moving relatively quickly, any faster and it would probably kick the wood up instead of cutting it.

Male 293
I bet this fails a real test, who the hell accidentally puts their finger into a saw blade that slowly? If he were to move his hand at normal speed into it, I bet it still puts a giant gash in it. It might not amputate it, but it will still end badly.

Male 356
dude tried to sell this idea, fully fleshed out, to various manufacturers, but had no takers because it was `too expensive`. So essentially it`s better to have ten people chop off fingers and absorb the cost of treating them as a society than it is to build in a mechanism that will save people from the trauma and expense of either being an amputee or having major re-constructive surgery into freaking TABLE SAWS, which have a somewhat limited market in the first place.
yeah. that`s how the utterly free market works.
or fails to, in this case.

Hmmm.... $60? I wouldn`t like to pay that when the machine is screwed everytime something conductive comes in contact with it. I mean wouldn`t that mean water from wet wood, rain or condensation would cause it to break? Or a tiny piece of metal.
0
Reply
Female 308
that is really awesome, but you couldn`t even pay me enough to voluntarily stick my finger in there no matter how many times it proved to be safe, with my luck it wouldn`t work

Cool beans. The only bad part from the video seemed to be you`ll need a new saw and probably a whole new stopping mechanism if it is activated.

I wouldn`t want to lose a finger, but this could get expensive for accident prone individuals.
