It makes me sick when I do something I hate, just like my parents did. You really do copy your parents. But, luckily some of us have a mind of our own and can think for ourselves.

Actually, Pindragon,
that`s not such a new phenomenon as you describe it. If you take a look at how families were structured even centuries ago, you will see that your argument even fits then.
Education (if there was any) was a lot more violent than even prior to WWI.
It`s not just then and how families worked at that time.

Mankind has always been unnecessarily cruel and sought violence as the prime problem-solver. Of course you`re right, I just wanted to point out that it`s not just the last three or four generations, but a lot more.

Unfortunately... the exceptions are few, and fall by the hundreds to the idiotic cruel majority of the lost causes.

The media we see and the world we live in, racism, sexism, emperialism, doesn`t help much either...

*shakes head*

Observe the fall of man.

I have a theory as to why people seem to be getting more and more cruel that deals with this very matter:

Around WWI and maybe a touch beforehand, Parents were strict. They believed in hard work, loyalty, hoonor, but to an extreme. Children where practically living in boot camp at the home. So they grew up and decided that their children should have the same values, but not be so harsh with it, so they eased off and taught morality AND free will.

The next generation viewed them, selfishly, as tyrants. Their grandparents (The first culprits) became old and kind to their grandkids, to weak to be hardasses. So those children grew up to be rebellious: The 70`s. Lawless children thought their hard ass parents were the devil and decided that THEIR kids should live as they WANTED to. Enter our generation... For the most part, we view authority as irrational idiocy and live like savages.

Now, don`t get me wrong. There are exceptions.

So very true. A few weeks back, I got annoyed with traffic while my 3yr old son was in the vehicle, and I called another driver a moron. Yesterday we were behind a slow moving red mini-van, and he looked at it and said, "I wish this red moron would get out of the way."
I felt like such a horrible parent when I heard him say that. :(

I`ve actually seen this ad on TV before. Really makes you think. I suppose (at least from what i understand) that children learn from the norms of society around them, and their upbringing. Sure, there is always a choice of action, but society and our upbringing tends to set a basic idea of what is acceptable and what isn`t. For example, if a child`s parents instructed him/her that stealing was totally fine, and the child never heard any different (or never cared for any other view) then that child would most likely steal, because the didn`t know/care that it was wrong.

`spp, you wont be saying that when you get cancer from the 2nd degree smoke from the guy you sit next to on the bus, or when you go out to dinner`

We have laws against smoking in public places. Also, Even if I did get cancer from 2nd hand smoke, I still wouldn`t wish it on anyone else.

No, their is always a choice of action, if we all did what we saw, then history Will be repeating itself. "Mankind must put an end to war, or war will put an end to mankind." The words from the greatest artist ever Heard- "Stand Up and F`kin DO Something!"

This video was posted before...

that said, I`m glad it was reposted. It`s really touching in a sad kind of way. Though it`s kind of nice to remember that this works in the opposite way, meaning that the kids with really nice parents will turn out like that. :)

This is a bit like the new bernardos advert.bernardo`s advert
This advert is very true though; children learn through observing their peers.

You do notice, Boredx12, that the ad goes for kids below the age of 13, right?

So what? I`m an agnostic meat-loving socialistic patriotic part-time-misanthrope and that doesn`t mean I didn`t copy behavior I observed as a kid.
And anorexia is a sickness, you should tell your friend that.

Kids who can think for themselves will not do this.
EG Myself
*points to age thingy*
I am the atheist vegetarian liberal-minded one in a family of churchgoing, meat-eating conservatives.

eg2 my anorexic friend whose parents are both obese.

Hurray for tennessee... no smoking in public areas (restaurants, gas stations, stores, etc.) woot, no second hand smoke for me at restaurants! oh yeah, north carolina and virginia passed similar laws so no matter what direction i go, smoke free buildings.

""We have a similar non smoking advert here. This one gets across a far greater view though.
Boadicea, thanks for that. I honestly don`t see why you`d wish that on us though. No one deserves such a death and I hope that you, nor anyone you are close to has to deal with cancer.""
