If I were a boss, and the employee did not have sick and/or vacation days, I`d fire them.

Nidonemo...I was waiting for someone to say that 8-)

I moved here to SF about a month or so ago. The funny thing is, no one in the tech industry even knew it was happening. When I brought it up, I was told just call in, "like normal."

Hence my post... }-)

"..to show how much the country relies on gays and lesbians.."

OMG!! We RELY on "gays and lesbians." (I thought lesbians were considered "gay").

Anyway, as difficult as it may seem, I`m sure the rest of us would figure out a way to get along if all the gay people were somehow abducted by aliens in the middle of the night...the same way as the rest of the planet would figure out a way to get along if group x...y...z...whatever were to just "call in sick"

...idiots!

"I can`t come in today."
"(ear-splitting, age-regressing whine) Whyyyyyyyy?"
"I`ve got the Gay."
"Tsk. Stop messing around and get here."
"No, really, I got the Gay, I can`t work today."
"...you`re fired." *click*
Sorry gay people. I love you to death, but I`ve got bills to pay.

I didn`t know about it until it was too late... damn.

But the whole "Day without a Gay" thing might go over well if you could get all Homosexuals to do it.

You think the economy is doing poorly now, let`s see how it does when 10% of the population refuses to work until they get equal rights.

Hypermonkey

The day of silence isn`t really about rights. It`s about not talking to silence the hate. Like using the words gay or faggot or dyke.

My high school did it and i tried to participate. But thing is...i barely talk anyway and lunch was th only time i ever got to talk so i wasn`t about to give that up lol.

I personally think it COULD have been a god idea but with the economy the way it is now I don`t think anyone should foolishly risk their jobs like that. Still was a pretty kick ass idea.

I did it, although not intentionally, i`m sick. But still, why not.

Aw, I missed it.

Oh well, I don`t have any more sick days left anyway.

Digression: The only thing I don`t like about gays is how they stole rainbows. >.> I know it wasn`t on purpose, and I don`t really hold it against the people themselves, but it still bothers me that I can`t wear my favorite old T-shirt from the 90`s unless I want to get stupid comments.

I am totally for gay rights and gay marriage. I don`t believe anybody should have the right to make choices for anybody else. =p

"and for anyone who mentioned "Day of silence"; that`s an even worse example.
I don`t understand how a day of not talking about your rights will benefit you actually GETTING those rights. It`s doing what we`ve done for hundreds of years and by not taking action we`re taking action?
Stupid if you ask me."
Its a silent protest marking the way the voice for gay rights has been silenced, not a protest in the way your thinking. Rather than something like this that will cause more of an issue, you simply remain silent. Its all metaphorical.

im against gay marriage im for it if its just play time thing but nothing is real with love towards same sex

Kill yourself. Nobody "chooses" to be gay. Did you CHOOSE to be hetero?

=_=

Haha. I`d have called into work but I need the money.

Unlike some rich gay people, I work for a living.

I called in sick to work, but it`s just because I didn`t want to go. :/ I tried to call in gay to school and my dean laughed then hung up on me. -sigh-

Marriage sucks. Most people get divorced. Let the gays have stupid marriage. No one likes it anyway.

I don`t really think this is going to do anything for homosexuals.. I completely support gay marriage, but it`s not like you`re special because you`re gay.

So if they are telling you to call in sick because you`re gay, they`re acknowledging that being gay is a disease?

I just can`t understand why this is still an issue for people. Why do so many care so damn much what strangers do with their lives? It`s nobody`s bloody business and is a violation of human rights.

Let gays get married! They deserve the right to be as miserable as the rest of us hetero`s!

this seems so detrimental. it seems in theory a cool idea, but it just gives employers another reason to discriminate. "i can`t come into work, i`m gay" might mean to them that they aren`t as hard a worker, which could be totally untrue.

gahh this is just kinda frustrating to me. there are so many other ways to get a point across.

Um. What if you`re actually sick?

----

Yeah!
I`ve got a nasty little cold bug.. NASTY stuff.
Would we still be allowed to call in or would that be considered some sort of double negative? haha

Meh. I don`t see how this is beneficial to the "cause",
and for anyone who mentioned "Day of silence"; that`s an even worse example.

Oh yes... I read about this on my Wii news channel a few days ago... I don`t think it`ll work, but I think the point is that gays and lesbians are needed just as much as other people. Either way, it`s just a bad idea.

I`m gay (as if that makes a difference), and I really don`t support this idea. How exactly will calling in sick help gay rights?

If I pulled something like that, I`d only cause my manpower-stretched boss yet another headache, and my support of gay rights would be the reason behind it. I doubt that would make him or the management above him sympathetic to my cause.

Besides, I already have equal rights in the age of consent, civil partnerships that are equal in all but name to marriage, legal protection against discrimination, and social acceptance to the level where the homophobes are considered in the wrong just as much as racists.

I`ll fight if any of that gets threatened, but to take up arms to get a last few remaining rights (such as blood donation, getting civil partnerships renamed, etc) would get people`s backs up, doing more harm than good. For important things, fight strongly, but for small things, tread softly and win people over. You don`t do that by skipping work.

so basically anyone who calls out for any reason today you can ridicule as gay

Day of Silence. Missing school and work is harmful to your own life and while the support is needed, less people will support if they have to stop their own lives.

Do the Day of Silence. It`s easier and won`t stop you from going about your day.

Like call in sick because you support gay people, or call in and say: I`m gay so I can`t come in to school today?

Either way I get out of school. Go gay people!

You know, calling in immigrant didn`t work for the illegals-the business world went on just fine, and most went ot work anyways. How do the gays think this will work, especially when there are so fewer of them than the immigrant workers?
So, if they Do call in gay, does this mean I can`t get my hair done? Or have my house redecorated? Oh no, no one to teach this straight guy how to dress snappy today! What ever shall I do?
(LOL @ HornyPanda)

In these economic times this is like the worst idea ever. I would suggest another strategy, getting that layoff the office is looking to drop on someone would not really be a constructive way to support anything.
