ACCORDING TO THE ARTICLEwhich is very important because i don`t know what actually happened. i wasn`t there
Having been previously robbed and shot. One would see fit to avoid such near death experiences. One way would be to buy a gun. another would be to live in an underwater bubble. Things such as getting shot or wounded otherwise would cause someone to be more `cautious` though in this case overly paranoid. How i brought darwin into this was, survival of the fittest. near death experiences, like in their name come close to death. Having been shot once before and serving jail time. a great way to protect oneself is to buy a gun. seeing as he can`t evolve to save himself might as well figure out how else. i would consider buying a gun after getting shot somewhat intelligent as well. not to mention i`m sure that at least half of you would too... Not given this pretext. all i have to say now. maybe more later. kthxbai-k
This because of idiots like Sarah Palin and her ilk, how hateful is a nation when a trick or treat kid is riddled to death... shame on america for loving guns."
"If you can make a case that Sarah Palin killed him, I will mail you a check for $1,000."
I could do that, blame it on global warming AND exterminate an endangered species of panda to combat the issue.
Uhp, yeah, I knew this`d come up eventually. I`ve had the account for a while and I was thinking of changing it but... so many posts. Just couldnt let them go.
Robbed by a 12 year old in a costume? Really? Is that the best excuse he can come up with? Just put him in the chair. Hes not even trying!
I don`t know what to say about this article. Why would they let a convict own an automatic weapon? Why would the family stop at some random house? Why would he feel the need to unload 30 rounds? And how do you treat this if he really did suffer from post-traumatic stress syndrome because he was robbed? If he goes to jail, he`s going to be brutally murdered by other inmates because he killed a kid.
Automatic weapons can be obtained, but there are many hoops to jump through. Plus they`re expensive as only ones built domestically before 1986 or imported before 1968 are allowed.
However, there are many semi-automatic AK-47 variants that are as legal as any other rifle in most US states. So just because it`s called an AK-47 doesn`t mean it`s an automatic.
Depending on Patrick`s prior convictions it might have been illegal for him to own even a semi-automatic rifle though.
+ + + + + + +
I really disagree, that`s a stupi-- Oh, eastern US.Nevermind. Makes sense now.
Way to read the whole article... he clearly stated his intentions.
But I`m almost 100% sure it`s illegal to carry automatic weapons, I`m pretty sure AK-47s fall under that category.Correct me if I`m mistaken.
If you can make a case that Sarah Palin killed him, I will mail you a check for $1,000.
Maybe the `Right to Bare arms` wasnt such a good idea. Just sayin...."
You claim to be emo. Nothing you say matters. Just sayin`.
"Holy s*it! He killed Tay Zonday! that bastard!"
Just a tad insensitive.
"but neither do pens kill someone stone dead with a single shot - typo or not."
Um, I`m forced to bring up the Dark Knight here. Am I bad person? =X
HA, just got it, yes, very ironic.
Actually, a burglary on Halloween would be quite unexpected, and the ex-convict could be anticipating one just for that reason.
But really, spraying that many rounds into a poor little could was a bit overkill.
Just the fact that he was waiting with a gun with him scares me.
o.O is that the BEST excuse he could come up with... he knocked on my door so i assumed he was trying to rob me and an assult rifle was the best way to cope with this? That guy NEEDS the death penalty, seriously, get him outta the gene pool.
Why are so many people so flippn` ignorant about firearms, laws and the proper use of...etc. ???
THE INTERNET CAN BE USED FOR MUCH MORE THAN POSTING ON FORUMS! Look it up dummy!
You should, perhaps, attend the funeral and send flowers to the family... you know... since you care so much about this particular person.
I thought it was illegal to carry weapons with you. Thought you had to keep it in one spot.
RIP, and prayers to his family.. this was an unecessary death.
You know why? Because someone made a smart ass decision to produce and distribute guns across America. Now I`m not saying Americans are any more violent than their fellow human being but. Well... give a man a ball and he`ll bounce it give a man a puzzle and he`ll solve it, but give a man a gun, and he sure as hell aint gonna hammer nails in with it.
My Dad carries around a pistol with him everywhere he goes. If that had happened to either me or any one of my sisters, that guy would`ve been dead in a second. Which is exactly what he deserves. And even if it was illegal to own guns, those who are willing to kill someone in the first place would manage to get one probably through theft. Its better to make them legal so that innocent citizens can defend themselves.
Crap like this will still happen even if there is a gun ban as people like him will still get guns.
And silverlake, "thats only rednecks and gangsters" still Americans...
You can`t expect to reduce gun related deaths by giving the victims guns too. Thats just so not logical...
First, You should choose more "neutral" sources for your statistics. Referencing a blatant anti-gun page is always going to return anti-gun numbers. Just like referencing a pro-gun site will always return pro-gun numbers.
Second, I think you`re way too focused on guns as the root cause of the problems. If you did a little deeper, I believe, you`ll discover that the overall homicide rate (not just the firearm rates) coincide fairly closely to the gun numbers.
The implication is that the problem is not caused by the presence of firearms (however, it may be exasperated) and is likely, cultural or, at least sub-cultural.
I submit to all that the continued persecution of guns is a societal effort to avoid responsibility for the creation and growth of a violent society.
Try the BJS website for your future numbers (http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/welcome.html)
"Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please."
lol, obviously trying to combat other people with guns. Fighting firearms with firearms...
Typical American thinking with this, "shoot them first then they can`t shoot you"
Even if the twelve year old was intending to `pop a cap in his ass` and `make off with his bling` he could still go down for manslaughter. Doesnt sound to intelligent to me.
Poor kid, RIP. My heart goes out to the family.
People can make all kinds of comparisons arguing that it`s people who kill people and not guns - pens don`t make typos or whatever, but neither do pens kill someone stone dead with a single shot - typo or not. Totally incomparable.
What were they trying to combat when they legalised the right to own guns, rather sharp pitchforks? sewing needles?
Look at the graph on this page:http://www.gun-control-network.org/GF01....
see how America has the second highest gun ownership and also the most firearm deaths (per 10000 so its equal for each country) by a significant margin...
Yeah but it isn`t considered a right to own a gun everywhere...
I believe it is legal to own a fully automatic firearm so long as the owner has a Federal Firearms License (There are several types some allow for automatic weapons, some don`t)
A private citizen can purchase on from a FFL license holder on what is known as a Form 4
I believe the lock laws are locally defined and not at a federal level.
I suppose children are never killed in Europe?
Remember, that rifle did not jump up and unload an entire magazine at an innocent 12 year old.
Blaming guns for crime is like blaming pens and pencils for misspelled words or keyboards for typos.
"Police said they also charged a 19-year-old in his home, Ericka Patrice Pee, with obstruction of justice when she was caught trying to run away after the shooting with $7,500 in cash. Patterson did not give an explanation for the money."
...Patterson said Patrick had multiple drug convictions ...
Ya want to bet that he was running a Meth lab out of the house?
As far as it goes, as a convicted criminal, it was illegal for him to own a firearm. It is very naive of folks to think that taking away law abiding Americans right to own arms will affect the criminal`s ability to obtain weapons.
To support that argument; I would like to remind you that the failed "war on drugs" has done little to stop the Billions of dollars worth of drugs from coming across the borders and the efforts of the INS have done little to stop 5 million of illegals either.
On topic: I feel bad for laughing at the picture because he resembles Tay Zonday.
In any case I find it surprising they found no drugs in his system. This is not rational behavior by any standards (irrational even for someone on drugs, actually).
I don`t quite understand this logic, does this mean that people get robbed all the time, with noregards to the law, so you should legalise robbery?
Hopefully he gets his once he gets to jail. They don`t take kindly to his kind there.
He was a con, since when do cons listen to the law? He would have that gun with or without that right. Just sayin...
But I get what katman is saying. If you were robbed and shot, you would get some kind of home security. Whether it be electronic call the cops wait 20 hours for them to get there, or a gun.An AK47 might be overkill, but a simple handgun would suffice. How a con got a gun is something else.SEEEE? Gun control doesn`t effect criminals, they effect citizens. Yay logic!
This world makes me sick to my stomach sometimes.
Gun control is not a bad thing. Sure it goes against the "Right to bare arms" amendment, but that was written in the times where it took 5 minutes to reload between shots, so domestic killings happened very seldom.
and katman..what the hell are you going on about.
the shooter couldn`t just look out side first?
Thats man slaughter.
this story made me wanna cry. how horrible.he was just trick-or-treating.
Not much into legal lingo, I iz confuzzled...
Im thinking he was JUST a tad crazy for not looking outside to even see if they were intending to rob. Even if they were, upon opening the door they`d be at point-blank range, probably not even requiring shots.
dear creationists counter this point:american money has all this metaphorical religious stuff on itworth = nothing
british money has darwinworth > american money
Besides, this story is sick, and that man needs to be locked up for life.
If your paper is in a vending machine, you want people who walk by to say "OH MY GOD!" and rummage through their pockets for a quarter to buy the paper. Having a headline like this SHOCKS and AMAZES people. Having a headline like "Green energy now has more fans" gives us a "oh that`s nice, but I`m not going to buy a paper for it." feeling.
Unfortunately until we do away with monetary systems, Ethics will always come second to profit. ( -_-)
And the trick-or-treater was shot you moron, it doesn`t even make any sense anyway
