They also forgot to mention that you should TURN OFF THE GAS while you lower the turkey into the grease...then turn it back on, once it`s in.

I`d put up my fried turkey to any oven turkey any day.

Plus in the time it takes you to cook a turkey in the oven (given prep time was equal for both) I could do five or more turkeys that taste substantially better than the oven. Plus beyond flavor you would never know the difference between my golden brown fried turkey and your golden brown oven turkey.

This is crap man, you NEVER set your fryer more than 400 F to start and then you want it around 325 to 350, going up to 500 with too much oil already is just retarded.

When you use a rub and marinade (a certain type I love) and inject it into different parts as well as letting it sit in it over night, it beats a oven turkey by 50 times over.

Many of you (especially Europeans) will call "foul" (lil joke) on the whole deep frying turkey. However, this is one of the rare frying food instances where it isn`t greasy at all. The frying simply seals the skin as soon as it`s dropped in to seal in all the juices and any marinade/rubs you`ve added. As opposed to doing it in the oven which just dries the turkey out.

Also using peanut oil is much healthier than other types as well as more tasty.

but for the record
you NEVER:

1) fry a frozen turkey
2) drop it in (you lower it in slowly)
3) overfill the pot
4) have it at 500 degrees F
5) or do it inside

All those tips and the flame was caused by them using way to much oil at a too high of temperature, and then just throwing in the turkey when you got to ease it in slowly.

oh, so what a smart person would do is put the turkey in the fryer, add the oil, take the turkey out, then heat the oil and re-insert the turkey.

no spillage haha

Deep fried turkey is actually really good in my opinion. For one, a nice thing is that you don`t have to worry about the oven not completely cooking up the turkey and you getting salmonella or something. It also doesn`t get deep fried through and through, if you know what I mean. The inside stays very soft and doesn`t get dry. But, again, I`m an American.

But anyway, 75 injuries in 13 years isn`t that bad, and any reasonable person thaws the turkey out and does it outside. But I admit the size of that flame was pretty impressive.

why would anyone deep fat fry their turkey, the only good type of turkey has a goose and a duck in it

and yes, i know the original is a turkey, a duck, and a hen, but goose has more flavor than duck, and duck more than hen, so hen left and we get full. but we eat it on new years eve

I think the fryer was overfilled. And 500 degrees is way too hot for a fryer. I worked in restaurants for several years and all the fryers I worked with were set at around 350 degrees. My point is that too much oil + too high a temp + dropping the turkey into the oil that way will cause those results. This sort of reminds me of a Mythbusters "what does it take to make it happen" thing.

clearly they overfilled the fryer for effect and IMHO 75 burns in 10 years isn`t that bad a stat
