level 7: another definition for memory access violation is segmentation fault.
level 8: wayyyyyy too hard. even for me, you have to do a Caesar cipher, and change all the letters to the letter thirteen letters down in the alphabet (a yields n), THEN do the coordinates.
level nine:509c22632b2b78716097fd8dc8adbe2e" is probably a hash, but i have yet to find a free online rainbow table decoder thing.

<b> Means bold, but the html isn`t part of the riddle. Rainbow tables, and the reverse clue fro tniH is all you need. (oh and the string of random letters and numbers)
0
Reply
Male 1,220
k so im looking things up right now: <table> is the start of a table <tr> is the start of a table row <td> is the start of a table data cell i cant find out what <b> means
0
Reply
Male 35
Lol, well its not really part of the riddle. I`ll give you a large hint: the Roy Gib is a rainbow, and in the source code its in a table, which indicates rainbow tables, look the term up. Think about the tniH aswell, its related to rainbow tables.
0

Male 1,220
and i dont know html. at all. so thats it for me for this level!

You missed one other clue, the source code around Roy Biv, might not seem relevant if you don`t know html.

hints: ROY BIV (g is missing, the letter for green)
509c22632b2b78716097fd8dc8adbe2e
"heres a tniH" found in source code (hint backwards)

i tyoed in the long stream of numbers into google, also i typed it in backwards but nothing came up either way

h y f s j k l w
b a k n j o k a
i e o o w s a a <---(original)
g e y g d g m e
a t e l c r o e

would the a in the top left move to the i four spaces down?

Male 1,220
d=15 in hexidecimal!
0
Reply
Male 35
haha, ok, i`ll give a helpful hint this time: Think of the Caeser shift, the most common version of it. D isn`t a letter, its a hexidecimal number.
0

Male 1,078

0
Reply
Male 1,220
no. you are making absolutely no sense. i have to go eat dinner. this better be solved by the time i get back or i am going to find dcp and slap him upside the head for introducing this demon into my life
0
Reply
Male 1,078
Ok Dcp, I think I get what you`re saying. But then again maybe no...because you never gave us a benchmark such as a=d, so perhaps i`m wrong.
0
Reply
Male 1,220
do you mean rotating in the shape of a "D"?
0
Reply
Male 35
Ok, think rot-D, and go make yourself a salad ;)
0
Reply
Male 35
Hmm ok heres a better hint: You need to `D rotate` every individual letter, the order remains the same, then take the coords of the letter and you have your answer. Numbers are not in the answer, but you need them to figure it out, specially for the `D` rotate ;)
0
Reply
Male 1,220
i dont understand d rotations!
0
Reply
Male 1,220
i have tried so many methods of going through these letters, then entering in the stream of letters into the answer key, is there something you need to do with the letters before you enter them?
0
Reply
Male 1,220
i basically mean that it overflows, so if there is 3 rows, 4 would rollover to the first row."

i`ve figured that much out. and what a mod is.

0
Reply
Male 1,078
Dcp:

Are you implying a=26? (hopefully you get what I mean)

0
Reply
Female 53
dcp: Directional rotation?
0
Reply
Male 35
Or more specifically, what else could D be?
0
Reply
Male 35
Take it literally "D rotations", figure out what that means. By taking the mod, i basically mean that it overflows, so if there is 3 rows, 4 would rollover to the first row. It`s just the coords of each letter, but you have to transform the letters somehow before doing that. Think what else `D rotations` could be.
0
Reply
Male 1,220
wtf is a d rotation?

i took the modulo of all the coordinates, column first, and got the sequence 3000011

does that have anything to do with it?

0
Reply
Male 35
If your stuck on level 8, the `D rotations` is the key really. You probably have the right idea, just missing an important first step.

0

Male 292

0
Reply
Male 35
brunettebebe: No, the code should compile perfectly, its a runtime error. You see, the pointer isn`t initialized, so by the definition of the C language, it could be anything, so its extremely likely that you`ll be accessing memory that doesn`t belong to the program, which will cause a runtime memory access violation. Similar to say, a bus error, but not quite that ;).
0
Reply
Male 1,078
Yea.

Here`s my hint:

Dcp gave us the answer with his last hint. Use google to fill in the missing info.

so someone who has a better grasp of C programming language needs to look at level 7 and tell me what`s going on. All i can figure out is something in the code is wrong and I`m pretty sure it has to do something with the "int" function.
0
Reply
Male 35
I`ll give a hint for #7, although you may not understand it all if you don`t program. The variable isn`t initialized, so it will likely cause an memory access violation, but thats not the technical term.

Yes, I created an account on here just to trick you that some random riddle image has a piece of calculus in it...
I have been busted...

No... really... -_-

Try just opening the gif file in notepad without changing the extension...
I already tried to re download the image and open it that way in notepad and wordpad and I see the same thing everywhere and no matter how I open it...

0
Reply
Male 83
I do not see " f(x)=\int cos(t) dt" when I open it in notepad. Do you? or are we relying on one persons word? If more people see it then it may be down to my computers fonts, otherwise I can guess BS
0
Reply
Male 924
so you dont consider f(x)=\int cos(t) dt to be calculus?

Male 1,078
Mator:

So random calculus hiding inside a gif file is a complete coincidence? When the level focuses on math?

Doesn`t really seem like it.

0
Reply
Male 83
The riddle intro said no outside programs would be required, so seeing as though there is no way to have gotten the extra calculus from the gif file from within your browser, the calculus can be disregarded.
0
Reply
Male 1,078
Guys, you`re not done yet?

Oh come on. How long have I been gone?

Screw it, I`ll give this to the math team (myself included), let`s see how we do with that.

0
Reply
Male 83
It hardly matters. Think about it, is it very likely that the riddle went from trick questions in level four to full blown calculus in level five? Think how many possible players that would eliminate. Im liking this riddle less and less, because just like many others it is relying on ambiguous clues and lucky guesswork to progress, rather than fool proof reasoning. If you get to an answer and go, "ok then..." instead of "now I get it!" then it is poorly made.

Male 38
/int cos(t) dt = sin(t)

You have to name the base for the integrating which is the dt part...

0
Reply

I guessed that by t they mean x, which I know is a stretch. f(x)=\int cos(t) dt

/int cos(t) = sin(t). and dt in this case = t. as t 9assuming it is x) is just an integer and not a formula (you do a derivative)

Reply
Male 38
Marto... You forgot the \int part...
And you don`t know t... f(x)=\int cos(t) dt... that means f(x) = sin(t), but what is t?

Get sum1 else to check b4 we continue..
btw the answer to that formula is 38.2906586

f(x)=sin(t) dt.

=sin(45) x 45

I already go to 1/sqrt(2)... but I had no clue what to do with it...
And well... I still don`t...

Ok... we have that f(x) = sin(t), but what does that mean? What is t? And how to type it in... lol...

I just changed the extension from .gif to .txt...
Or you could just open it with notepad...

And the random symbols aren`t important... what is important is that it says f(x)=\int cos(t) dt.
The only question is... what is t?

Good one.

I think I advertised our case on the OF and maybe one of the mods mistook it for spam and deleted all the posts.

Lloyd:

That means:

Function G of x = Logarithm X

Then it tells us to find Function F of 45, which is not the same function.

Marto, I didn`t say _should_ I said _could_

Notice how two and to are pronounced similarly...
It`s the same way with plain and plane...

So if two was misspelled on purpose, maybe this is too...
However, I can`t seem to find an F-45 airplane... and the only airplane association I got from 4w is Firebird which didn`t work either.
