I think they are beautiful. Absolutely amazing.

Just because something is destructive doesn`t mean it can`t be beautiful and awe-inspiring.

1. Explosion-least deadly and destructive
2. Sonic Boom-most destructive
3. Radiation-deadliest X-(

Kinda funny how anything can be beautiful as long as you put emotional music behind it.

what`s being called beautiful is the appearance of the explosion, not the intent or aftermath of the detonation (which all seem to be test shots anyway). lighten up, it`s neat-looking, that`s all.

That`s not really impressive compared to the Tsaar Bomba...still a pretty video, even though you really shouldn`t call a nuke beautiful.

And then all the spectators died of radiation exposure. Probably. They weren`t far away enough.

I still don`t find them beautiful. Nuclear Bombs are man made mass destruction devices. They kill. They destroy. That`s not beautiful to me.

The word beautiful is not what I would use to decribe a nuclear explosion...!

Actually the theme this song is based on is from the Enigma Variations by Edward Elgar, so in a way Clubbed to Death is just another variation on this theme. Take that pop music!

Also, i thought it was funny that this vid is 4:20 long :)

i agree with HachiSanJu, i always get really terified by this kind of stuff. I guess its something i know will probably happen one day and i cant stop it and the island i live on is so small that one atom bomb would take out the whole island.

"Oh, fearful, piteous sight!
Most fearful of all woes
I hitherto have known! What madness strange
Has come on thee, thou wretched one?
What power with one fell swoop,
Ills heaping upon ills,
Each greater than the last,
Has marked thee for its prey?
Woe! woe! thou doomed one, wishing much to ask,
And much to learn, and much to gaze into,
I cannot look on thee,
So horrible the sight!"

The field of physics is both exciting and terrifying.

Better dying thru physics.

What music are they using? That`s often used by figure skaters.

vv "How come big things look so similar to little things?"

Opie, it`s a good point you raise, and a standard tenet of the way the world works, and is rooted in science. To quote a better man than me:

"Big dogs have little fleas,
And smaller fleas that bite `em.
And those fleas have smaller fleas,
And so on, ad infinitum."

there`s beauty in death, unfortunately. If we would of put our knowledge into creation, where would we be now? (i think a little better off.)

i bet most of those guys died of cancer.

@tetramino

Its proably in a heavly fortifed metal bunker or soemthing of that sort. The objects you see are mostly made of wood and or are not sunk into the ground.
I am pretty sure of stories and photos of nagasaki and heroshimi were bank vaults and items like that were still standing even after the bombs dropped.

My question is this: How did all of those cameras that recorded the house and the two cars survive the blast if the objects they were filming at a seemingly close range were completely obliterated? I`m not saying this is fake, I`m just genuinely curious.

vv "I wonder what a nuke would look like from outer space"

Depends what you mean by "space". If you`re talking high orbit, I doubt very much you`d see it (with the naked eye).

The cannon was truly awesome. Unleashing tiny pieces of stars on the surface of Earth...I can`t think of a single historical even that would show us (as a species) to be capable of handling such responsibility. Kiss your asses goodbye!

Unfortunately, they were to close. And they weren`t informed of radiation. Remember back then not many people knew about the effects of nuclear bombs other then they were big booms. Debris fell on the ship, and people picked up for souvenirs.. lets just say deformities and deaths years later occured of this. One guy`s hand got as big as a baseball glove or more cause of it.

I only wish i could watch one of these on the horizon.

Unfortunatly,
No more testing, thus, A Full sized Nuke is never going to be detonated above ground in my lifetime.

Afraid YOU are gona get nuked? Please. Quit watching TV. Mutual assured destruction is a wonderfull thing.

Starrstreet said: "That`s why its so dangerous for Iran to go nuclear..."

I`m sorry, but Iran WENT nuclear. I am positive (but have been wrong in the past) that they do currently have nuclear weapons.

If I had to go a step further and guess why they aren`t using them on, say, Israel yet, I would say it`s because they know that our nukes can reach them, and that we would defend Israel, potentially, with returned nuclear force. Just a guess.

Also, "Trinity and Beyond: The Atomic Bomb Movie" is great if you find this kind of stuff interesting. It`s narrated by William Shatner! :)

"I know, I know, but after 9/11 I`ve thought about it more since it was real and physically in front of my face."

Its been a real threat waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay before 9/11. And the fact you live in one of the biggest cities in the world isn`t helping much either.

maggierose: What you describe is exactly how it`s outlined in the MAD scenario first populated in the 50`s IIRC. MAD stands for Mutually Assured Destruction and boils down to "If you want to destroy us, we`ll make sure you`re destroyed too". As horrible as it sounds and as horrible as that may be it is an effective form of deterrent and was a major sticking point during the time of the Cold War where tensions were at their highest. It also adds in an extra level of certainty and protocol that something like this won`t just happen on "accident"

"That`s why its so dangerous for Iran to go nuclear because there are people in that region of the world if they could somehow get a hand on one or were able to buy one, they would use it."

I`m no expert on the matter, but I seriously doubt that any nuclear device built by Iran could pose a threat to the United States, I`m sure that any attack from that far away (it needn`t be that country) would be detected and neutralized.
And as far as I see it, any country that has nuclear weapons (United States, England, France, Israel, India, Russia, Pakistan) and condem any other country that attempt to build one of their own is a perfect definition of hypocrisy.
Obviously, I don`t want Iran to get their hands on nuclear weapons, but no more or less than any other country.

That is horrific. At any moment someone could just press a button and boom hundreds of thousands of people dead. And what if there was a computer glitch on the radars and it showed that there was a nuclear bomb heading our way. We counter strike, they counter strike, another country strikes… so-on- and so-on and so-on.. Millions upon millions upon millions of people dead.

I know, I know, but after 9/11 I`ve thought about it more since it was real and physically in front of my face.

I didn`t mean countries that could bomb us, I know a lot COULD, but I meant would. All that could right now know we`d just do it right back and there goes the world, so they won`t.

That`s why its so dangerous for Iran to go nuclear because there are people in that region of the world if they could somehow get a hand on one or were able to buy one, they would use it.

Isn`t that the song from the matrix?

Oh yeah me too Bulldozer. I get nervous when I think about nukes cause most likely NYC would be bombed and live on Long Island. I`m in that area where you die slowly and painfully with your skin melting off. There would also be no escape since I don`t have boat or anything to get out of here.

I used to live in the city where you would just die immediately with no pain if there was a nuke but my parents decided to move out here after 9/11. I told them, great, so we`re living on a death trap island where we would die in excruciating pain, thanks.

I think about this too much.

It`s kind of funny in those dreams because a raid siren will always go off before the bomb gets dropped.

So if I`m with someone in the dream and the siren goes off I`ll say something along the lines of `I`ll bet a bomb gets dropped now because I dream about this sometimes`, then sure enough it does.

One day I`m going to hear that siren in real life and freak out.

I have nightmares about burning to death in a nuclear explosion every now and then. It would be scary as hell to see a mushroom cloud on the horizon.

I`m sorry to hear that; I have dreams of whitnessing an explosion every so now and then. Just far enough away to be out of reach safely and yet close to watch.

But the thought of dropping this on something/someone(s) is so horrific that it pretty much negates any appreciation...
