    Just…wow.

When it said ‘bad parenting’ I expected something entirely different.

This has GOT to be a joke.

whoever is voting yes on prop 8 is a selfish, coldhearted, stupid person.

My whole family is voting no.

    DONT DISCRIMINATE OTHERS!
For the people who are against their children learning about gay marriage in school... WHY THE HECK WOULD YOU NOT WANT THEM TO LEARN ABOUT IT? It`s a fact of life, that your child is going to know about someday. & you can`t stop your child from becoming gay or not.

Ugh! Making two bitty chillun` anti-homo ain`t too smart. No sir! I`m married; I dress up in crotchless panties, fishnets, and a leather nightie. Does anyone complain? Not really; but I can`t really tell since I bend over an awful lot. That`s true marriage for you. You always know how bad you`re getting screwed. I don`t need Proposition 8 to tell me that.

    Zorro, is right.

Ok, so what if someone found heteros awkward? What if it all starts in the brain?

Also, to anyone who says only gay men are wrong- then if I found gay men doing it arousing (which is just weird, and GROSS sounding, watching I mean) then it should be ok. You know…just so you know, I mean.

But I don’t think we should press pur beliefs onto others, in other words assimilate them.

Ugh. Whatever I`m sick of arguing about this topic. The fact is no matter how many of us believe gay marriage should be legal there are to many conservatives in our government and in society to ever let it pass. Especially when people still hold on tothe belief that if God will smite us down if it happens.

I still pray that one day it will be legal but right now i`m just plain sick of fighting. I`m at the point where i`m just saying...why even bother anymore.

It`s one thing to not like gay`s but it`s a whole other thing to strip them of the right to marry just because you don`t like them.

Hijack the word marriage? Are you kidding?

You realize words are all INVENTED in the first place right? So that we can communicate with each other. And definitions of words can change... and have over the years.

Seriously.. wtf is you people`s issue with homosexuality? It`s been around since animals have been in existence... it is not some new threat out to harm your children.

I don`t understand why having a civil union instead of marriage is such a huge matter. (Sorry apoet4life) Why does having a civil union instead of marriage make you a second class citizen when you have the exact same rights under law?

And with regards to Prop 8, ya know, considering the extremely large amount of teenagers having sex and having children before marriage, having 2 gay people legally bound together is the last thing that destroys `the sanctity of marriage`.

And yes, I agree, you can`t force people to like the law (as minitimm). That`s why we use a democracy: majority decision wins.

Pabasa, a state can grant as many rights as they want under civil union, but there are still about a third of the rights that are federal and can only be granted if the name is "marriage".

It`s stupi,d I know. However, it`s the distinction between civil union and marriage.

Not to mention the fact that if you are gay you can`t have a "Civil union" in a church or by a priest can you? I`m not sure on the details but just because someone is gay doesn`t mean they aren`t christian, and there are a lot of gay couple that would love to be married in a church by a priest and have a traditional wedding but they can`t. At least as far as I know? At least not in a church.

That`s where separation of church and state come in, and the government can`t force a church to perform a marriage that it doesn`t want to. A church is not necessary for a legal marriage however, just for the ceremony that`s a traditional part of American culture.

Thanks for the explanation, Opie. Much appreciated. Now I see why the Americans get so bitchy about civil union while, from my experience of staying near the UK for a while, the Brits got no problems with it.

Thing is, GothicQueen, it *is* against the teaching of the religion, and one must not change religion just to suit our whims and fancies.

Personally I think one should be content with the legality of it, where it matters on earth rather than our future in heaven.

But that`s just my own view on homosexuality with regards to religion. I don`t think many share my views.

If I understand the constitution correctly, the government is not able to make laws which favor a religious belief. Marriage is a religious invention, and if the religion makes the rules for marriage, should not the state have no say?

For that matter, what if I am not Christian, and my religion`s equivalent of marriage has a different ritual, does this mean I am not officially married? (Because the law also states it must be done before an ordained minister.)

Here in Kentucky, and not sure about the rest of the world, its a matter of religion, because there is some weird bylaw that says churches have to marry people. No, I don`t know the law, and no I am not going to look it up. Now, as a Christian, I have to say it wouldn`t be fair to force someone to do something against their personal religion. It wouldn`t be fair. Churches do have the option of changing their church covenant to include that they wouldn`t marry gay couples, but it is easier to defend marriage. Thats why I am against legalizing it. I think it should be illegal on those basis.

Yeah, and look where that got the Dodo bird.
Haha, I know that`s not what you meant; but I`m against gay marriage. Marriage is between a man and a woman, those two get married to reproduce, to populate the Earth. And until a man can give birth, without surgery, or a woman can produce sperm, gay marriage should be banned.

I`m not for gay marraige, but seriously, Christians who say gay marraige will end society as we know it as like saying that lying, cheating, stealing, gossiping, lust, envy, greed, gluttony, etc. will end the society as we know it. Last I saw, capitalism is still doing fine.

but then again, looking at the economy as of recent... maybe we`re all horribly, horribly wrong.

Amen, sister. If someone loves someone else, who are we to infringe on that? People are people despite their sexual orientation or preferance and just because we don`t find that tasteful or "nice" or "attractive" doesn`t mean we should ban them from it. I honestly don`t mind gays getting together and getting married. More power to them if they want to spend their lives together.

The song was weird and corny, and maybe even in bad taste, but that doesn`t mean that Prop 8 is a bad thing. There are plenty of sociological reasons why it should be passed. I`m not hating on the homosexual community; they can make their own choices, but in reality, Prop 8 is just about the legal definition of a word, and its passage or failure doesn`t really give or take away any rights to them. But it still poses threats then to individuals and groups who would think differently--in the name of tolerance their opinions are no longer tolerated. Nothing would really change if it passes, but nothing is certain if it fails. Would religions be interfered with if they didn`t allow same sex marriage? Would school curricula change? Would even expressing different viewpoints be labeled "hate crimes"? Would adoption agencies who believed differently be forced to close? Things like this have happened in other places. How fast might these things happen? Who knows? It`s an uncertain g

You know. In general, our society is becoming more accepting of homosexuals. So, this isn`t "our future", in my opinion.

Also, who are you to say this is bad parenting? They can raise their kids how they want. I thought there was going to be a story about some kids locked in a trunk or something. No, they are just instilling their morals into *their* kids.

No problem here, unless you`re close-minded and think your way of raising kids should apply to *everyone*.

Government should just drop the word marriage all together from a legal standpoint. Marriage comes from religion so if you want to be "married" go to a church to get it recognized.

If legally by the government we all were just recognized as being in civil unions and still have the same rights they had for marriages then there wouldn`t be a problem. Homosexuals couldn`t complain about not being included in marriage because no one else is.

If you want to be "married" because of a religious thing go to a church and do it. So there, everyone is happy.

Because, apparently, it affects every heterosexual marriage that ever happened ever. I don`t know, the religious fanatics and conservative dweebs are just farting in every direction, hoping to scare everyone into chasing out the homosexuals.

The actual argument from the conservatives is not that other marriages will explode killing thousands due to gay marriage being made legal.

I know it`s alot easier to argue against that argument, but unfortunately, it`s not one they`re making.

The argument (which is still easy to refute, no need to wet yourselves), is that by legalizing gay marriage, you 1) Detract from marriage having any real meaning, 2) Detract therefore from it`s importance in society.

Thus "destroying marriage", and losing it`s beneficial effects, such as lower crime incidence and drug use amongst children of two parent households for example.

Which would be a legitimate argument if 1) and 2) were correct, or at the very least not entirely undermined by other factors demeaning the meaning of marriage.

So now you can all run along and refute the argument being made. Have fun.

Baal, thats not the arguement. The actual arguement is that "marriage" is a religious term, not a political term. And in many RELIGIONS marriage is clearly defined as being between a man and a woman. If you want that changed, take it up with your local religious house. And if you noticed the liberals (or at l
east the ones running for office over here) said the same thing.

That being said. Poor effing children. seriously? Now there views are effected for life, and they have no way of making up their mind for themselves.

"Marriage comes from religion so if you want to be "married" go to a church to get it recognized."

If thats true, and homosexuality is sinful, why even considered getting married as opposed to a civil union.. I don`t understand really how anyone gay could want a Christian marriage.. what with the views on it being a sin, and not being able to go to heaven if your gay.. Maybe someone gay can give me a viewpoint on there.. not trying to be offensive, just trying to understand that point really.

ASSUMPTION: Religion is a mental illness.

QUESTION: How does a marriage between homosexuals threaten a heterosexual marriage?

STATEMENT: Marriage is not a religious institution anymore. It has evolved into a public statement of love and committment that also has important legal ramifications.

    Let`s evolve, people.

This scares me. The fact that parents are able to have such control over their kids is bad. Seriously, the kids will grow up and hopefully think on their own. As a gay teenager, I know that marriage is going to be an issue. My parents raised me in a semi strict hindu household but I grew up and found out my own thing to believe in. But I have to say that it scares me that such young minds and kids can be taken advantage of just because they don`t know better. And honestly, as a gay teen, what harm am I? I don`t hurt others, I don`t break laws, I don`t steal or hurt other peoples relationships, gay or straight. Basically, I`m a law abiding citizen. Wow, I`m such a terrible person. I don`t see why I shouldn`t be allowed to get married to someone I love in the future.

This is no worse than those kids singing "Obama`s gonna save us" songs or chanting his health care plan.

There was a good editorial in the WSJ called "Obama and the Politics of the Crowd" about how the author had seen that in the middle east, every 50 years or so people put all their faith in a great "redeemer" who they believe will solve all their problems. They just end up disappointed.

America has never been like that, until now.

...And slavery had ALWAYS been that way...until it wasn`t there anymore. So was separation of Americans based on being colored or white. So was women not being allowed to have rights...

Understand this elkingo, giving straight people marriage and gay people civil unions keeps us separated! Many gay people grew up Christians and believe in the Christan values. They may not agree with everything that is said (i.e homosexuality is bad) but one doesn`t necessarily have to 100% agree with what their religion teaches. As long as they follow their own set of laws and ethics, they can continue to live a long and happy life. I`m not sure why a religion that`s all about love would be against that.

By saying gays can`t call what they have a marriage, takes out country back 100 years. Imagine in today`s world we said "Ok, men can vote but women have to `cast a ballot`" It`s the same thing with different names. You`re taking two groups and your segregating them. By banning gay marriage and promoting "civil unions" you`re saying, "You`re not like us! We get the expensive $200 a bottle champagne and you get $12 dollar bottle. It`s the same thing rig

Because the only reason to get married is to have kids. As of now, if you are in a `civil union` you have some of the rights as a marriage; minus the really important ones like property ownership, hospital visits (yeah, your wife or husband is dying. You can`t say goodbye. How do you feel about that? Sucks doesn`t it?)and gardianship if you have children.

We don`t just want the word marriage, we want our rights.

"We don`t just want the word marriage, we want our rights." You bring up a point that I think should have been made all along. You don`t need the word to have the rights you know. I gays should have all of the rights you mentioned, even though I think its wrong, homosexuality I mean, its not my religious right to force my beliefs on to you. You should have the same rights, just not the holy part of it, as it is a sin. I think that is where the divide comes in.

elkingo, thank you. It get`s really hard to convince people that no, I don`t want to squash their religious beliefs and I don`t especially care what my partnership is called, but that I just want the same rights everyone else has.

I think if more people saw this proposition in that way, more people would be voting no.

I agree samidoll, but religion still defines it has a holy union, because it is between a man and a woman. Religion can`t define homosexual marriages as anything. It shouldn`t happen in Christianity at all, ever. Just like there shouldn`t be gay priests.

The point is, why can`t homosexuals have their rights, without the word?

Yet all I could concentrate on was the HORRIBLE singing.

The real issue is: Why did you let their parents reproduce?
