The English Are Serious About Road Safety

And their realistic commercials are proof of that. Not sure what the moral of this particular commercial is though.

First, is it really a good idea to send a guy with pointy ears to jail. He could be an elf, or vulcan or something, and our precious criminals could be in danger.

Secondly, whats awesome about this commercial is that the traffic accident could apply to just about anything. All you need to do is remove the scene where you show the dog, and replace it with any subject matter you want people to be afraid of. For example: Show the couple getting splattered, the firefighters working on the girl, the people in hopital, the dude during the trial, and Then cut to a scene of the same guy eating a bag of skittles right before the crash." Bam! M&M stocks jump fifty points (well, they would if the economy wasn`t in the crapper)

"Skittles. taste the vehicular manlaughter" doesn`t quite have the same ring to it.

The only thing that I find annoying is that most nations, particularly Americans think that England & Britain are the same thing I know not all Americans think that but alot of them do.

Oh and Northern Ireland is not in Britain, it`s in the United Kingdom

I think this is from Northern Ireland, I`m not sure... but we don`t have it in England, at least not the part I`m from.

However we have other hard-hitting shock tactic driving ads called "THINK!".

The biggest hard hitting ads come from Australia though.

okay so the guy is willing to push his little POS to its limits to pass someone on a narrow road, but does not want to hit a dog. Yeah that makes a lot of sense, uh I don`t know about you guys but for the the general rule is if it is big enough to damage your car stop, if not, too bad for them. Like for an example a golden lab moving in front of my SUV, he dies, the neighbors were a little a mad, but nothing they can do. But when he did it before on my motorcycle I stopped, due to the fact it could have thrown me off the bike.

what an idiot that guy was, you don`t swerve in front of another car to save a CAT! I know it was just a commercial but really.

and also you probably have never driven a car seeing how you are 13-17. When you are driving it`s pretty much an instict to slam your breake or swerve from something when an object runs into the middle of the road. Whetherit be animal or person. Of course i`m an animal love myself and would find it pretty difficult to not swerve away from hitting a cat.

Yet, more accidents occur at low speeds. The high speed crashes of course get all of the attention because of the carnage it brings with it.

The probability of that happening to the bystanders though is extremely small, so this feels a bit sensationalist to me. But hey, it gets the point across.

And Mac, that picture is AWESOME. I really wish my apartment allowed animals, I`d go out and get two puppies.

I`m amazed that US states haven`t installed speed cameras. They are ALL OVER Britain. If you go by one even 2-4 mph over posted limit a speeding ticket arrives in your post box as a camera takes a picture of your license plate. Some are fixed with signs up, some move around in backs of parked vans which are also sign posted but you dont know when they are there until too late. It`s an enormous revenue generator.

Speeding is for morons who think it will make them look good or because their own selfish desire for a rush over the lives of human beings including your own parents if you are the one that dies.
When I was at school I saw an 11 year old girl get killed by a speeding motorcyclist who couldn`t stop when she was crossing the road. He broke her thigh and she bled to death on the road.

@littlepete50

EXACTLY. He was overtaking when it was unsafe. Speeding was a factor, but only one factor amongst several. It`s right that they should make people aware of the dangers of speeding, but it`s ridiculous that most campaigns make it their focus at the expense of all others. Had that driver been going the speed limit for that road (60, if Northern Ireland follows the same national speed limit as the rest of the UK) but still driven in the same way in all other respects, that accident will still have happened, and would still be just as deadly.

I worry that so many accidents are still occuring because all the energy is spent raising awareness of speed, not of many of the other primary factors.

Look: http://www.psni.police.uk/rtcs_fy200708.pdf

Speed is a BIG killer (the most major in that list), but not the only one by far. Alcohol and drugs, inattention, wrong course/position, all need awareness too.
