This is what happens when you have widespread poverty and no education system. At least they aren`t killing or torturing the accused (as we used to do). And I am sure that in some small southern towns of the US, it would still be troublesome to be labelled a witch.

Witches DO exist. Just not the hocu pocus flying on brooms thing. Although brooms are sometimes used to symbolically "sweep" negativity out of a room during rituals but NOT for flying or any of thet hollywood crap that makes for good TV but is nothinbg like real life.

    Interesting.

Especially since it`s now fashionable in Western culture to be a witch. I mean, everyone now is running around saying "I`m wicca."

Religion is now fad in America.

Well Astrid the majority of those who claim they are Wiccan I can guarentee you aee not. they are just fluffies who have no idea what they are talking about and trying to "rebel" against society.

As for this video though since I haven`t really commented on it I am not shocked in the least. A lot of places in Africa either accept witchcraft or condemn it as evil. It`s just different cultures and beliefs. Who are we to judge their ways as harsh as they may seem to us?

To be Wiccan you to study for a whole year and a day with a teacher in a coven. They train you and help you to learn the ways of the craft. Then a High Priest or High Priestess depending on the sex of the initate will give you the fivefold kiss. Then if you aspire to be a High Priest or Priestess yourself you need to have sexual relations with them. Not for pleasure but to symbolize the uniting of the God and Goddess. And yes this is fact. Like it or not. Wicca is a fertility religion after all with roots in nature. You can`t be a traditional Wiccan unless you are in a lineaged coven. End of story. There is a thing now called "neo-Wicca" that is like Wicca but more "friendly". Most traditionals will just scoff at you for mocking them because to them it isn`t true Wiccan.

This being said no I am no Wiccan. But I know a lot of people who THINK they are. I`m just an Eclectic Pagan right now as I haven`t realy connected with any one path.

GothicQueen, although what you said is true.... it`s not the only way that people are/ can become Wiccans. That is the so-called "traditional way, but they can be a solitary practitioner and learn their own way of the Craft.

but for most, Wicca is a solitary religion, something you may have learn from books, lectures, or even through personal experience, some may learn from their families.

and keep in mind that there are many types of wicca

Well you replied to me first getting agitated just because I always have opinions on things. I`m truly sorry if that bothers you but really..if I was making a remark on Witchcraft on the post with the burker king safety dance then I would see how your point would`ve made sense. But I just made a point about my belief on a post about.....wait for it.....witchcraft. I assure you nothing I believe in or about is fake I just have a lot to say and not enough time to say it. I`ve always been very opinionated and it has got me into trouble before but I am still entitled to say what I want. And no i`m not trying to be interesting. I`m probably the most boring person you will ever meet actually lol. I`m in my house 24/7 and only leave when I go to school or need to pick something up. So there you have it. Frogtango: "When it says `mainly in america` does that mean that we have goblins and ghosts in scotland. When the fetish priest was mentioned i was confused (and turned on)"

    fetish:
    1. An object that is believed to have magical or spiritual powers, especially such an object associated with animistic or shamanistic religious practices.
    2. An object of unreasonably excessive attention or reverence: made a fetish of punctuality.
    3. Something, such as a material object or a nonsexual part of the body, that arouses sexual desire and may become necessary for sexual gratification.
    4. An abnormally obsessive preoccupation or attachment; a fixation.
    (from dictionary.com)

I`m pretty sure that they were talking about definition 1, which is the oldest and most etymologically accurate definition.

you just remind me of all the kids who wanna be gothic and have an interesting mysterious background. I can`t help feeling that way, whether you tell me your probably the most boring person ill meet... i still have the fake opinion of you. You can`t help it either. My personality just clashes with your because i come across as myself, i don`t say my full opinion unless its something that truly affects me, i just think you have too much to say about things, and that comes across as fake, and like you want to be more interesting than you are...sorry but its not gonna change.

I imagine the chicken pointing up or down thing in the United States...

"Raped woman: This man raped me!

Judge: I see... SEND IN THE CHICKEN!

    Raped Woman: W-What?

Judge: If the chicken dies with his legs pointing up, the man shall be condemned to 40 years in prison, but if it dies pointing down, he rapes you again. In front of all of us. Then we all rape you to death.

I know it may SOUND like I think I know everything but I know very little of the basics. I don`t try to pass off anything as my own, I just like writing and when you have a lot to say writing is the best way to get a point across isn`t it?

Anyways can we please just stop arguing about this. I hate making enemies just because we don`t agree about the same things. I`m finished "arguing". So if anyone else hasanything to say feel free because I won`t argue back. After all...it`s just the internet ;-)

Guys.. it`s easy to come across as a "know-it-all" or someone with too many opinions (I`m not really sure how that`s possible... we`ve all got opinions on pretty much everything) when you`re on a forum. I mean.. if Gothic didn`t have anything to say she just wouldn`t post and then there`d be no point in her even frequenting the comments. Plus, Dilldog, Gothic`s comment wasn`t exactly opinionated, it was informational and therefore she had to of learned it from somewhere. You might as well say, "All of her knowledge about biology came from a class and therefore isn`t really hers."

I like ya`ll, but ganging up on someone isn`t exactly cool, m-kay.

Alice, as you are no doubt aware, opinions only matter to the people who posses them, and no one else, if two or more people posess a similar opinion, its an interesting social phenomenon, to be equally disregarded, its not a trend, nor is it important, like this pose, and like all of your over 3 k posts, ouch, reality bites, eh?

Do please refrain from harassing people for being indifferent on a matter in the future simply to get attention. Rather go ask your boyfriend for a hug if you really must have some.

GothicQueen, I`m really starting to wonder...

How can something have a "new" or "neo" version if it`s only about sixty years old? What you`re talking about is the coven-based wicca followings, which are mainly Gardnerian and Alexandrian. However, there are many practicing solitarians, including Draconic (of which my partner is) Wiccan.

As for myself, I`m a witch, following in the Shamanic path. I`ve received the call as such, and am learning through my mentor. That`s all you need to know about what I do, though.

But no. Wicca is not STRICTLY coven-based, and while it *is* fertility based, as are most pagan religions, it does not dwell only on sex.

at no point was that a attack on yourself or a attempt to intimidate you, its simply my opinion, as you seem to believe having one matters so much, but as i said, end of topic.

Oh so you decide when the topic ends?
You clearly think very highly of yourself viking, to be coming on here and to tell me im an attention whore, firstly..
secondly to make a comment on something that didnt involve you, what i wrote was TO gothicqueen, because i thought she might appreciate me telling her how i see her, and the way she puts herself across.. and three, to TELL me when the topic ends.
Big man, being able to tell a girl over a forum that she needs to look for hugs from her boyfriend.
We have had disagreements in the past, you must remember, because ever since, everything you seem to say to me is usually something to put me down.

i stated end of topic as i refuse to fill this forum past here with a petty arguement. The issue was posted on a forum open to the general public, therfore you can expect people not involved to react to it as they would to a issue happening on the street infront of them in real life. Take matters to private if you wish to discuss this further and note i have nothing against you or any wish to "put you down", i´m simply reacting to what you stated as i have to many others in the past, positive or negative.
(note to mods, please delete this posts and subsequent ones to clean up this forum along with others related to it if you will, i simply had no other means to communicate this than to post it here.)

Alice... not to join in on everyone starting to gang up on you (as I already expressed that I think that sort of behaviour is childish) but you really thought that telling Gothic that you think she`s a poser and trying too hard was really going to be beneficial to her? Even if you weren`t just picking on her there are better ways to share your opinion with someone. In my eyes Viking gave you the same exact treatment that you gave Gothic, and you`re handling it very poorly. You laughed at Gothic for accusing you of attacking her and then say Viking is "intimidating" you. Don`t dish it out if you can`t accept the same treatment back.

Its how vikingguy is with me and other people all the time. He says he isnt trying to put me down, i don`t belive him, as he never has anything nice to say to me or other people, everything he says is negative, and usually its about the persons behaviour, not their comment or on the subject.

Alice, just for sanity`s sake, how about you stop typing? Honestly... He asked the mods to do something, as not many people really want to wade through a bunch of off-topic feces-slinging amongst different people, especially when they wish to get back to the discussion of what the link is about.

It was a request, NOT telling the mods what to do.

I just thought the way you called out Gothic in the first place was rude and uncalled for. Of course she has opinions on a variety of subjects and of course you are privy to them because if she didn`t have an opinion on a posting, she wouldn`t say anything. You`ve had over 3,000 opinions on things here.
Also... most of the time it seems Gothic is just sharing tidbits of information. I like when people share whatever knowledge they have because it`s interesting and occasionally will inspire me to do my own research to become more well rounded. Harping on someone for sharing on a forum is detrimental to the forum itself... if people kept their opinions to themselves this wouldn`t be such an interesting place to visit.

Edit: But, as I said before, I like pretty much everyone here... I just don`t like watching people get called out for no reason.

    @Racoon

V that is true but the reason why wicca is sometimes called neo-pagan is basically because there are people who are following the Wiccan path without doing the rituals or being part of a coven. A lot of hardcore followers argue that this isn`t true wicca because they aren`t in a coven and are solitary doing their own thing. But since they are still following the Wiccan beliefs these people call themselves neo-Wiccan.
Really it can get a bit confusing because there is always a lot of controversy between what is REAL Wicca and what is just fluffie rubbish. I personally believe to be a TRUE Wiccan you do need to be in a lineaged coven and and follow the traditional Gardernian Wicca tradition. But if you choose to follow a "neo-wiccan" path it doesn`t realy make your beliefs any less real. It just isn`t the traditonal way.

Wow, female circumcision got brought up. We studied this a bit in ethics class. Why would they do that? There is a reason you know.. because people in those countries are so "sexual" to say the least. Marrying a virgin also seems to be a desired thing over there. No, it isn`t moral, but those are the facts.

Yes they do. A Witch is usually anyone who practices Magick but I can`t give you an exact definition off the top of my head. But not All Wiccans ar Witches and not all Witches are Wiccan. Magick is actually based around science believe it or not. But I won`t get into it. Saying Witches don`t exist is basically like saying priests don`t exist.

They do exist, but they dont look like this:

My old college teacher practiced witchcraft, she didnt talk about it much, and she had to leave the college not long after for "getting too friendly with the students"
Tbh i think they were just scared of her diferences, like people usually are.
But she wanted to be our friends, aswell as our teacher, and the college didn`t like that.

I would have to say that I agree with QueenZira much more, Gothic. Sorry. Like I stated before (And this has been agreed upon by both solitary and coven wiccans I know), sexual rites are NOT required for any initiation or "graduation" (for lack of a better term) into priesthood or priestesshood.

You sound too fundamentalist Gardnerian in my opinion. There are ways to be initiated as a "wiccan" without being part of a coven. And honestly, if you were part of a well-established (ie. more than 100 years old)lineaged coven, then you wouldn`t be Wiccan, but rather a family trad witch. Wicca, in all reality, started with Gerald Gardner. It is no older than the 1950`s.

And yes, for those who don`t understand it: You can be a witch without being Wiccan. As I`ve said, I`m a shamanic witch, and don`t practice Wicca at all. Also as such, we are in most senses called to be solitary. It isn`t often that one gets called into the mysteries of shamanism or shamanic witchcraft.

Can I chip in my 2-cents worth? This is just one guy talking, but I think Magick is utter bollocks, it`s just as crap and arbitrary as prayer. When I hear a fully-grown adult tell me they`re a "White Witch" or a "Black Magician", I immediately have to assume they`re slightly deranged. You may as well tell me "I see dead people".

And no, I`m not singling out Wicca as a religion. To me, it`s all in the same bucket as christianity, scientology and flying-spaghetti-monsterism. No offence to anyone here, just my humble opinion.

Davy, obviously you`re entitled to your own opinion. For some, these religions (yes, possibly even pastafarianism - despite its basis in the mocking of another religion) will work and will work quite well within their lives.

For you, it doesn`t. As long as you`re comfortable in your stance and happy with the direction your life is taking in this regard, I have no issue with you whatsoever.

However, I will state that as each person is different, while you see one thing as bollocks, someone else will see it as perfectly legitimate. As long as we can respect these differences and understand it`s entirely subjective, then we can continue peacefully.

sounds to me more like witch is just a title, like the priest to christianity or the zealot, like myself, to my own beliefs.
also note, theres alot of sub sections to every faith usually, whether it be christianity, islam, wicca or anything else, there is no "true" faith as such.

I agree with you davy, i don`t believe in any of it, but as i always say, each to their own.
There are good points and bad points to any religion, and if you truly believe in whatever it is that you believe in, as long as it doesn`t hurt anybody, more power to ya.

Ritual is the word that works best for me. Wiccan rituals pay reverence to nature and the elements which are seen as sacred. I do not do "magick" or any other superstition laden term.
Wicca affirms my personal convictions, its anti-dogmatic, embraces a belief in a feminine side of the divine and respects women as spiritual leaders. It is also free of the built in prejudices of some mainstream faiths. Just sayin`

exactly. it seems pointless that everyone has an opinion that they deem the "truth" when there are obviously so many people that think their own view is totally right. people should always be able to believe what they want, as they would not believe what they do without good reason :D (wow i hope that made sense)

darkercheese, I think you`re using "magick" for what has been termed "occult."

The literal meaning for the word occult is "mystery," or "that which cannot be known." It will always be a mystery, and in striving to understand those mysteries even more, we become occult practitioners.

Magick is basically the same thing as prayer. You put your energy towards requesting something, whether for yourself (personal) or others (psychopomp). Most of the time, it is best to make sure that the request is made in such a way that emphasis is made towards harming no one. If getting more money only takes it out of someone else`s pocket (ie. getting a job someone else is more qualified) then it can backfire horribly. However, if you request it with the intent to harm none, for the good of all, then it may come as a lottery win (happened to us once... a pick 3 win that gave us $650) where no one is harmed by the benefits.
No matter what, everyone uses en

Darkercheese, that made perfect sense! It`s (in my opinion) the most loving way to live... to realize and accept that someone else`s truth in regards to religion and spirituality will be different from your own due to personal beliefs and experiences, and to accept that.

thanks for your second comment raccoon (and your first, im glad to have a reply :D). since im new to here (and the entire posting on the internet thing) i am trying to put across what i believe here, since it seems to have become about beliefs (through my interpretation anyway) "Magick is basically the same thing as prayer" that to me is "just the word that people tend to use for thing that they don`t understand/believe" as prayer was originally something to explain things that couldn`t be understood. (i would like to note here that i seem 2 be contradicting myself, but i tend to think that any belief, even my own is just trying to explain somethin that i dont follow. even someone who believes in anything is effectively following their own religion in my view.) p.s. again, even though it is the cool thing to do on the internet, i apologize if i dont make sense :)

It`s quite alright Racoon. Everyone always seems to have conflicting views when it comes to Wicca. Some even go as far to say that all the diffwerent types of Wicca like Dianic and Eclectic aren`t really Wicca at all. I myself am not Wiccan and truly don`t know where I fit in on the scale. I believe in the Duality and most of my beliefs seem to coincide with "new age" beliefs but I just hate using that word because it tends to be used when not talking about looney people lighting candles and sending out the "white light of love".

I do agree that you can be technically considered Wiccan" without any of the sexual rites but it just isn`t traditional and a lot of traditional Wiccans scoff at the new age fluff. But as long as you know what you are talking about and have done your research and aren`t just in it for "shock value" I don`t really care what you are.

I just don`t like when people say "omg lyke i love nature and the black robes are so awesome and look at the pentacle jewerly omgz yay!" And then proceed to go out and buy some book of love spells and crap and then call themselves Wicca (or any Pagan religion for that matter". Because themedia likes to get hold of the "weirdos" and as I have said before it makes a fool out of the entire religion.

Just like when you have Christians going out and killing people in the name of God. Not all Christians are horrible people but the bad seeds give the whole religion a bad name. Of course since it`s christianity no one tends to pay much attention to it but when it comes to the "dark and mysterious strange" world of Pagans people eat it up.

Quite true, Gothic. And I have to say I find myself agreeing with you. I will admit that I wear a small pentacle ring, and have considered pagan-based tattoos. However, for the most part, us witches are just regular people. I work for Goodwill Industries, and have three kids to look after. (Of course, when they asked to put their small pumpkins on the altar for halloween, I had to grin) Faeries and Elves won`t clean my kitchen. In fact, about 95% of what we do is pretty mundane... It`s only the 5%.. the spellwork and divination; the journeying and aura reading... that get the attention.
The "fluffy-bunny" perspective has only been propagated through media unfortunately. (ie. I`ve had people tell me "I`ve watched all the episodes of Charmed. I bet I could do the magicks just as well as they are! I`m a witch!") That frustrates me to no end.

But that`s why we need to educate people on what we really are. It`s not all buffy/charmed/theCraft bullpoo...

Do you use classic or advanced D&D rules? how much mp does a typical spell cost? do you prefer to use regular die, or more than 6 sided for multiple rolls? how do you compare to something like a cleric?

VikingGuy: Spellwork includes rituals that have the intent to affect a change in the course of events. It can be to gain prosperity, provide protection, heal another person, or any number of other intents (some being purely spiritual, like cleansing rituals). Various rituals can be used, including candle-magic, rune casting, cleansing and smudging, etc.

As for aura reading, I don`t know a lot about it. I see auras, but I don`t know what the colours mean and I don`t have the inherent ability to interpret them.

staberind: Cute. Funny even. However, it`s been about six years since I last touched my role-play dice, and I use them strictly for games. (Since you asked, I have a standard set of D&D dice, indcluding the D6, D8, D10, D12, D20 and D10(%).) I don`t like using the standard six, as it causes more confusion in my mind. But as I`ve stated, this hasn`t grabbed my attention in about six years.

aha, interesting, does any of it ever have any true effect is what i must ask? no offense meant of course.
my ignorance on these matters is mostly due to what i follow being...i guess you could call it political, primarily honor based with a emphasis on the individual, freedom of action and expression, truth and conflict arts( ranging from things such as negotiation, debate, arguement all the way over to the use of arms.), things that have a tried and true effect on the real world as proven through history.
I simply find it fascinating to gain new insight into other ways.

    No problem, staberind.

VikingGuy, I`ve learned a little about norse, asatru and viking traditions... I find them quite fascinating. Due to their need to be firmly grounded and stronger in the physical sense, it makes sense that the gifts bestowed would have had much more effect in the physical world, whether through speech, thought or action.

However in my personal experiences, I`ve seen true change happen through my own practices and spellworking. I do believe I`ve mentioned about the Lottery Pick 3 win, for example. The numbers popped into my gf`s head literally moments after I finished the spell. I`ve done house cleansings with dramatic results, and have seen other effects through my psychopomp work and Journeying. So I`d have to wager that yes, in my experience, my practices do truly affect change.

actually am none of those, the viking thing is more of a insider hinting at my looks, full beliefs aren`t called by anything truely, only the main body that formally upheld them till previously had a name.
the actual beliefs themselves are based around the discovery, study and revelation of truth and around the individual and their preservation with conflict basis to help us achieve exactly that in cases where its needed. We have a solid physical world basis because a spiritual belief has never once in history stopped a bullet/blade or stopped a oppressor from chaining anyone, but words and actions and the ability to carry them through have.

the same, better understanding of other beliefs leads to a better understanding between both groups in the long run, though in the end it still all grinds down to the individual.

First of all,I`m Wiccan and yes, i practice it and I`m proud. What I don`t do is go around shouting "Look I`m A WITCH!I gonna cast Magick spelllsss and pretend to be awesome!" This is just dumb-I look stupid and many people think I`m "weird." I may be only 15 years old, but I`m not dumb.

Get off your high-horse. You have opinions, congratulations and welcome to the rest of the population of the world. If you think you`re somehow bashing her opinion by calling her little, or saying it ended a "VERY LONG TIME AGO" (which obviously it didn`t) your sadly mistaken, in fact, it makes you look like a douchebag.
