I have to go with Ruswut on this. Imagine being in your teens and getting raped. Yea raped. Your telling me the kid should keep it? Don`t tell me you can put them in a foster home. There`s a poo load of kids in there already who need to be helped. Imagine growing up as a child and realising(sp) you were basically a nice big mistake. I`d say abortion should be allowed for certain situations like that. Think about when animals are suffering and we put them down so they won`t suffer. Would you want more kids like that suffering around the world?

"Also, I believe the reason people do not understand why abortion is viewed as wrong by some is a lack of awe at the marvel that is life."

Completely wrong, bud. I fully appreciate the improbability of being born, let alone the improbability of life even existing. Probably more so than you. I`m not suggesting life and conception is trivial, I just happen to believe that the ability to end a pregnancy should be a legal option for mothers in our day and age. The alternative is more horrible.

A lot of pro-life people seem to be having some moral issue with the actual killing and are making that their main argument. I don`t particularly enjoy that fetuses are terminated, either, but I don`t have to in order to be pro-choice. If a woman feels compelled to end a pregnancy, it`s her body! Who are you to impose a moral sanction on their being?

Just to clear up a misconception, the heart starts beating abotu 21 days after conception, not 12 weeks.

Also, I believe the reason people do not understand why abortion is viewed as wrong by some is a lack of awe at the marvel that is life.

You have a better chance at winning the lottery every day for the rest of your life, than you did at being born. The fact that you are even here and reading this is mind boggling. Life is so rare and so precious, that it should be protected at all costs.

People have lost all respect for what is precious, and assume that an individual is just another human. You are not just another human. You are unique, and you have value because you exist. No one should have the right to remove that value.

Just a quick question now i read down the comments, if you got raped britt would you keep the baby? If yes what if the rapist was a close relative? If still yes what if the baby is going to be disabled? Still not convinced how about if you get a terminal disease that means you won`t be around to look after the baby? Extreme yes, but if you had the child on the basis of every life in precious can you really claim and inbred disabled parentless child is going to want to live?

I think abortions should be mandatory..... Nah not really, I just thought I`d put an extreme idea out thier first before pulling it back to a rational pro-choice belief.

But to be honest before 8 weeks that thing looks like something from alien o.O...

"so just because a fetus doesn`t feel pain it`s ok to kill it?"

Not just because. I think she was arguing that complaining about the fetus feeling pain at all times a fetus is usually aborted is a non-argument. It`s preferable to kill it than for a pregnancy to be on-going under physical or emotional duress. And before you try and spin that, I don`t agree with abortions done out of sheer convenience - I frown on that. But overall, it should be a woman`s choice to end a pregnancy she is having. As GothicQueen has tried to point out, this is better than illegalizing the practice altogether.

"Back alley abortions are gruesome"

Any abortion is gruesome. I don`t have to like it in order to prefer it to be legal.

The fact is, and it is a fact because abortions were illegal once upon a time...

if abortions are made illegal, they will still occur...just, not under supervision, and putting the mother life at risk also.
Back alley abortions are gruesome, but some women become desperate.
abortions should always be kept legal simply because of that, not every foetus is wanted... and each human being, being the mother or father should have their own say, and it should be their choice, and noone elses.

V I never said you had to share my belief I was just stating my own. I could care less whether you believe in a soul or God or anything for that matter. But I`m still always going to be pro-choice and abortion will always be legal. Deal with it.

GothicQueen, so just because a fetus doesn`t feel pain it`s ok to kill it? If someone is murdered in their sleep they won`t feel it, so is that acceptable?

"and it is just a lump of cells. Sorry. The soul doesn`t even enter until after birth."

Good to know you`ve unlocked one of the great mysteries of the universe.

oh and FYI a fetus doesn`t even FEEL pain until about the 20-28th week of gestation and by that time most abortions have already been done unless there was some serious circumstance done otherwise.

Again do your research before you try to validate a point.

I guess Im no woman then Britt

I also forgot to add the fact that if abortion is illegal women will STILL try to have abortions anyway and will look for other ways to rid themselves of the pregnancy. And believe me those ways aren`t very safe at all. At least with abortions legal they can have it done safely in a medical environment by people who know what their doing insteaod of swalloing cyanide and sticking knifes inside them to do it themself. So if you think abortions should be illegal wow...you really have put no thought of the consequences.

britt566: "Also if the woman doesn`t want the baby and it was a mistake of getting pregnant then MAYBE she shouldn`t have been HAVING SEX.... just saying..."
You didn`t address rape. What if they didn`t choose to have sex?

"Also if the woman doesn`t want the baby and it was a mistake of getting pregnant then MAYBE she shouldn`t have been HAVING SEX.... just saying..."
So, you`re saying the notion of some irresponsible people having abortions should illegalize the act for more responsible people placed in situations in which it could be deemed necessary? I don`t see it.

"Any woman who will abort her baby is NO woman in my book."

How fortuitous, then, that no medical doctors follow your book.

"So you are saying it is right to just kill the baby while its still in the mother."

She wasn`t arguing right or wrong, ditz. You don`t have to agree with the practice or the idea, but don`t deny that right to other people. God, what`s wrong with religious folks always wanting to impose on the freedoms of other people? You`re not scoring points with anyone.

So if you ask my opinion on the subject...keeping abortion legal far outweighs the consequences of making it illegal. If you are pro-life in the sense that you would never have an abortion or don`t agree that is fine. But don`t take the right from other women that may choose to do so. Please.

---------------

So you are saying it is right to just kill the baby while its still in the mother. That makes it right....? Yes I know there are a lot of people out there who don`t want their children and abuse them and the foster care homes they go into are not always loving, but KILLING the baby WHILE its STILL in the mothers belly. While it DOESN`T EVEN KNOW WHAT`S GOING ON! It just feels pain... horrible pain... and then it dies... and gets sucked up into a tube that goes to some trash can thing. BUT NOOOOO. It`s just fine. You are "SAVING" the baby from a bad life... yet it is in the middle of being chopped up into little pieces, DOESN`T KNOW WHAT`S GOING ON, doesnt know anythi

I already had a heated argument on this subject not too long ago on another post so to repeat a point I made in that post.

all abolishing abortion is going to do is cause more women having children that are not fit to be parents. More people living on welfare, more children being put up for adoption, more children being put into foster care because not every unwanted child is adopted.

You can`t guarentee the ones who are adopted or put into foster care will be put in loving caring families. I can tell you this for a fact because of my own fathers life in foster homes. And as for health wise for women, If abortions ar illegal not only would it hurt the unwanted children and I can bet you the rate of post partum depression and psycosis would go up and cause more breakdowns and women murdering their children after birth. Just turn on the news or go online and see how many women have murdered theire newborn children or just left them for dead.

You don`t really see many people protesting car crashes either, do you? Probably because you can`t help those. But if I were to go running down people on the sidewalk, I bet someone would protest.

"If those two things aren`t meant, then abortion is ending a life, as I think natured defined it as."

It`s ending a "life" whether your two conditions are met or not! I like how conservative christian types will fervently believe whatever both settles their conscience and is convenient for them. Yeahaw, DuckBoy87, aborting a baby is only ending a "life" when it`s not a rape baby.

Incidentally, I`m not sure how much of a say men have in this discussion, anyway. I`ll be glad to hear about how much of a degree of influence we feel we should have in the discussion once we`re able to become pregnant and be put under the stress and emotional duress of wanting to no longer be pregnant, for whatever reason. Until then, it`s not a men`s issue.

I`d prefer women be able to abort a fetus rather than bringing the baby to term and then tossing it in a dumpster so it can suffer before dying from starvation, freezing, or being crushed in a dump truck. Or putting it up for adoption in an already thoroughly overcrowded system where the risks of being put into an abusive foster home are very high. Or to have and keep the baby resentfully and bring it up in an abusive household. Or (last one I promise) to go searching for an alternative method to terminate the pregnancy. Back alley abortionists equipped with little more than some alcohol and a wire coat hanger were a reality... if a woman is desperate enough she`ll go to any length.

I`m pro-life, I think Codmily hit the nail on the head for this side, minus one thing.
I think that abortions should only occur if one of two things happen, 1. The baby being born threatens the mother`s life, or its own, 2. The baby was a rape baby.
If those two things aren`t meant, then abortion is ending a life, as I think natured defined it as.

but then i was told by multiple adults like in
their 50s and up that women were hurting their
selves to get rid of the baby. so no matter what
if they want it gone they want it gone...
but i think if they dont want it put it for
adoption...but its just my opinion....

I`m not one to vent on this subject, but it`s been a while.
Think about it this way, every person who is dead or alive today at one point was split in two; sperm and egg. Each and every one of us used to be that tiny little disfigured thing inside a womb. Everyone thinks that it`s up to a woman if she can have an abortion, but what about the father? Half of it is his. What about the baby? It`s his or her life! The whole thing about not having a heart before 12 weeks doesn`t make sense because at the point of conception everyone know that by nature that will become a baby which is a life, and therefore it is intentionally ending a life. Let nature take it`s course...
I believe that it`s a selfish act. Take responsibility for your actions, and stop ending innocent lives.

"The soul doesn`t even enter until after birth."

I`m still not convinced there is a soul. I like how you sound so self-assured.

"Logic dictates that if your dead when your heart stops, Your alive when it starts."

No, logic dictates that you are alive when you are no longer a parasitic being fully dependent upon your mother whilst in the womb. And by the way, death isn`t as easily defined by a non-beating heart, but even if it were, you`re suggesting we`re dead for 12-13 weeks after conception. What the hell? Not being born yet is simply not being born yet.

Okay if the heart doesn`t beat until the 12th week then why can`t people who are against abortions at least agree that it isn`t living up until that point then if you want to get technical and scientific with it. And keep abortions legal for the first 12 weeks and not do them after that?

Why are people who are pro-life at least come up with the solution to keep abortion legal before thw 12th-13th week instead of trying to abolish it completely?"

if that was aimed at me, i never said im pro-life i said im pro-choice, every person should have the chance to make that decision themselves.
But myself personally, i could never even think about doing it unless under certain circumstances.
In my mind, that foetus is a child, whether it 1 day from being concived, or about to be born.. it makes no difference to me.
If two people are gonna sleep together, they should know what can come of it.

I saw something similar to this...well i say similar, it was a documentary on the growth and development at the different stages, but it showed what the baby goes through, and it had poems and stuff, it was really good..
like if you play loud music, your baby hears it too and if its sleeping..it will wake your baby up.. it seems obvious but alot of people dont really think about stuff like that... it was really interesting, a foetus can taste food aswel, thats why you get food cravings when your pregnant because its the babys tastebuds telling you to eat certain foods xD
