i hate war because of watching videos like this. the worst part is his dad will probably have on a month leave and then will have to go back on another tour for probably longer--like a year and a half. and who suffers the most? the poor kid.

"Its nice to see the kid happy, but it was only 7 months."

But for a child so young...that can feel like 7 years. AND as you can tell he loved his father very much. And his father was in the war he was probably worring that he`d never come home. Shove your words up your @$$ for that comment and get a heart for the kid he missed his dad get over it.

For those of you who say you "don`t care", try imagining your parent deployed for months at a time. My dad is in Iraq right now, and when he finally comes home it will have been a year. I worry every day that he won`t come home.

xxmiranda,

I was a military brat as well. My Dad was in the Navy (USA) for 25 years, he retired when I was 19. He went to Iraq twice before he retired. Honestly, I don`t truly believe that you`re a military brat. A true military brat would be happy to see ANY father/mother no matter what country they`re from come home to their family. I still cry when I see other fathers and mothers come home, I cry when I see them come home when they are in the military for other countries. It`s all about that common thread--as military brats, we want our father/mother to come home, and seeing others get what we want/have is an emotional moment.

I`m sorry xxmiranda but I have to comment.

When you say `We don`t care about bush` etc I assume you mean Australia. I don`t want to be mean but how the hell would a 13-17 year old girl know the opinions and views of 21 million people?

And `show me an Australian and i`ll be happy`?
Shouldn`t the Americans then have the right to say show me an American, if you have the right?
Especially if it`s `Their Fault`.

Please don`t be idiotic and illogical. Just state your opinion unbiased.

"I know its hard to believe but the world doesnt revolve around America..."

That`s funny... it seems to me that much of the world revolves around this whole financial thing going on. (but, granted I don`t think we are the sole cause of the current financial state of affairs so i will let this point go) Everyone likes our movies and we contribute greatly to science and technology. The entire world benefits from that as well and they try to emulate it. Unfortunately when it comes to war... it`s not "What have you done for me" it`s "what have you done for me LATELY". People don`t ever seem to wanna give credit where it`s due. For instance, I respect the hell out of Canada for their heroic help on D-Day. Without them it would have been tough. I`m a Marine and I recognize this. It`s not all about the US... but we are the major player. We are not sorry about it. If Australia doesn`t want to be allies then man-up and don`t be. You should be thankful you don`t s

:3 Warm fuzzies. Glad the little boy`s father came home.

And to the Australians complaining: It`s not about a U.S. soldier coming home, it`s about a little boy who was missing his dad, and probably got the surprise of his life. I`d feel the exact same warm fuzzies regardless of what nationality, race, etc the people were.

the reason that is touching has nothing to do with war. we all want to be 6 years old and hug our dad. its innocence and purity that we are nostalgic for. also, the soft piano music adds the "emotional touch."

maybe it was a piano made out of heart strings???

Man you people with your political views. Can`t you just apreciate it for what it is? A kid who hasn`t seen his dad for ages finally sees him. Do you really have to degrade somebody just because they`re in a war that you don`t approve of?

I`m going to be blunt from an American point of view,

We are not the reason you are here, your government made that decision to come here, you were not forced, the decision was not made by a 13-17 year old child, we have 5,000 troops to every one of yours here, none of us get a "warm fuzzy" feeling about watching our loved ones die in Iraq, we don`t give a s_hit if you don`t "support" USA or the war or Bush, and most of us don`t "support" the war either.

You should think things out more clearly before you open your ignorant mouth.

Listen, I`m going to be blunt here from an Australian`s point of view:
You Americans are the reason we`re in Iraq in the first place. Sure, it`s nice warm fuzzy scenes when your soldiers return home, but for us, it`s just you returning home from something that should have never happened in the first place. We don`t support Bush or America, and most of us think that the alliance that makes our soldiers stay in Iraq is total bullsh*t. Show me a scene of an Australian soldier returning home to their kids and I`ll be happy. But show me a scene of an American soldier coming home to their kids and it`s just they never should have left in the first place.

From the daughter of an soldier in Iraq.

I *AM* a soldier returned from Iraq, Australia was part of the "Coalition of the Willing" in case you didn`t know. Having been there, I can tell you we had no right to be there. It was a classic case of Occupation. And it was all about the oil, nobody ever believed there were WMDs there. SNAFU.

You should know that your statement is full of high hopes. Not trying to start any type of flame war here or who ise better for president debate... just saying... it doesn`t matter who gets elected. We will stay there for years to come. Even the anti-war mongers know this. If you don`t believe me now... you will. Just remember this message about five years from now and you will see.

I can`t believe how heartless some of y`all are. My father was in the Navy for 25 years, missed a total of 10 years of my life (I`m 20) due to deployments and misc. trips. Every time he came home, it was like this for my family. Growing up in the military is not just "Oh my Dad/Mom leaves for a bit because the Navy/Army/Marines/Air Force deployed them". It`s a "Dad/Mom is gone, pray every night that you don`t see the black SUV and uniformed men walk up to your door". Even if they`re not deployed to a war, they`re still risking their lives every time they leave.

That boy and his father are incredibly lucky; as is my family. My Dad went to Iraq twice before he retired and thankfully came home both times. For those of you who don`t care, I`d like to see you grow up in the military, be only 7 years old and know the harsh reality that when you see your parent off to a deployment that could be the last time you see them.

I can kinda relate to this, when I was 7 my Dad moved early to North Carolina to start a job while my Mom and us kids stayed in PA for a few months.

We had a going away party and my Dad came up from NC as a surprise and the reaction was somewhat like that.

But this kid has definitely got a reason to be much happier, I`m happy his father is safe and sound.

And come on Nidonemo, I know its war, and I know there are way too many children without fathers because of it, but in relative terms of other wars, Iraq isn`t terribly violent at all. Especially now, you probably have a greater chance of dying in DC than in Iraq.

Nevertheless, it could of happened, but it didn`t. And there are rightly so a lot more `Awws` in the world because of it.
