It"s obvious that the Philippines lack the same stringent building demolition codes as other countries.

Haha, one of my teachers was in a similar situation. He was in a building in Japan while there was an earthquake. The building, designed to shake and move without breaking, leaned a LOT. My teacher was all "WTF?", and decided to look out of thw window to see what the hell was going on, just to stare almost directly to the ground... He almost fell. He locked himself in the closet, and waited for it to end.

This was the SAI building in Tondo, Manila. It fell in July 2004, and no one was injured. It was only supposed to be a 5-story building, but it became 8-stories. The owner blamed excavation work around the building and softened soil, but the investigation said it was because of the poor materials used in its construction.

@apermal and powpowking:

The Filipinos don`t write in Japanese, but the Japanese do. (And on this particular video, they`ve written "Building falls down in the Phillipines" up in the top left.)

No, no, you`re all wrong.

It`s an ancient Philippine tradition, it`s called apartment building boxing. In this case, the black building won.. When the other building went in for a punch, the black building delivered a quick and deadly uppercut into the 10th story of the other one and just dropped him, as you can see.

It`s not a demolition. I saw this on telly and it`s just plain old shoddy building. The owner got slapped with a fine and put in jail. Everyone in that building lost their homes.

I`m not sure, But I believe the backstory behind this video is the building was being demolished because it had been irreparably damaged in an earthquake and was already leaning over somewhat.

Can anyone confirm or deny this ?
