i`d also like to see the same study done with white children.

wow... interesting. i`d never even heard of the original study. some of the kids look like they may have been coached off camera though... not sure what purpose that would serve, and i am probably wrong, just a small observation.

the white dolls are just shown more on television and commercials and such. So it`s like some trend that probably all kids enjoy.

(Thinks about a black barbie)

That was the fakest video I ever saw... She barely gets the damn question out of her mouth and they have the white doll in their hand`s...

The goverment loves people play so much into racism.. because it distracts people from bigger issues...

I`d say its because babies from white parents are much more common on television and movies and therefore a trend. But I`m no psycholigist, so I dont know sh*t.

And its so fake... ask a young boy which doll is best... he`ll say "where the heck is the bike.. i don`t want any damn dolls!"

I have a little sister and brother who are 7 and 5, respectively. Trust me, these little poos will lie, or say things simply to provoke. My little sister, half-jokingly, accused me of having sex with a girl while my mother was away.

She said she was kidding, but does that somehow imply that she is a sexual beast of seven year old? No, she just knew saying something about sex(which she knows little about, like maybe racism in this video) what put us older people into conniptions and make her laugh. She didn`t drating mean it. I know it can`t account for all those results (which definitely raise some questions), but about that little black boy who said the doll was nice because it was white...give me a break. He had a goddamned grin on his face when he said it.

Maybe white is simply more of a psychologically appealing color than black? I remember reading in my psych class that the human eye is automatically attracted to the color white becasue it is lazy. Then there is the impact that color can have on mood. I don`t think it`s an accident that Goth kids like to dress in black. That is, of course cultural, in some Asian countries the color white is the color of death and has those connotations. Just some thoughts.

dyou think maybe its because black dolls aren`t advertised as extensively as white ones? i mean, do black polly pockets exist? and i know there are black barbies, but i haven`t seen one since i went into KB toys to buy my niece a present.

It`s interesting that when people comment on links such as this one, the true age of the person is clear.

Anyway, I was thinking that if everyone was as tolerant as Atticus in To Kill A Mockingbird, the world would rock.

the fact of the matter is that kids don`t notice race, or skin colour. Its only as they get older they start to reflect the fears and prejudices of their parents.

It`s not just the race of the doll, if you think about it. the race is just a part of the whole picture. If you took a barbie(blond) and a teresa(brunette) doll and gave them a choice, which do you think they will pick? Do the same experiment with white kids, who will they pick? Bet you anything, barbie over teresa. Almost every little girl has the same expecation of what they have to look like to be considered `good` or `pretty`no matter what the race. It`s really sad.

Hmm the thing is with this, is that children are asked which is the good and bad doll? So they have to choose one. I know if I was younger I wouldn`t say both are good or bad or neither. Even if I was thinking that, I wouldn`t say it and would just go along with the question and choose one.

i just think that this is stupid
reasons why:

this is only local, not global
this isnt a "problem"
and it may have been of personal opinion of the children.

inconclusive.

You silly little man. Anyone from any colour can have the motivation to be who they want to be. There isn`t an "overwhelming presence" of white people in the media, those are people who worked hard to be where they want to be. If a black person wants to be on television, they will work to get there. Look at Oprah, Destiny`s Child, the long list of black comedians, Will Smith. Eddy Murphy. Are they not role models? A black person can be a good role model, unless of course they think that being black gives them magical rights that the whities don`t get, play the race card and end up winning a racism cou

did you see the look on the little girls face when she asks "can you give me the doll that looks like you?"

The little girl had just showed the black doll as the "bad" doll, then she looks at the two dolls, and has this look like "oh crap" and shows the black doll as the one that looks like her. This is not necessarily racism, but stereotyping. Tis a shame...

Also this is not a repost, it is a follow up to a previous post.

They are kids, they don`t even know what racism is yet! They just see more of the white doll in ads that is why most of them made that choice. And I personally, am NOT RACIST AT ALL but I think that black people are more racist than white people are.

i dont think there is any formal analysis of the results they just expect them to be interpreted as they are, obviously people have a lot of reasons why they think this happens
0
Reply
Male 2,586
Can someone explain these results to me? Is it that these kids have been subliminally influenced by media/ parents etc? or is it that they aspire to be white? Is it that they associate white with clean, black with dirty? White with rich, black with poor?

These aren`t my ideas, I`m just looking at people`s comments and pulling out their justification for it...

i know that you aren`t going to respond to these posts because you just want to spread your racist bullsh*t but to note something about my previous post. though it seems like a drunken frat boy is far from a criminal minded thug, think about the prevalence of rape on college campuses. people wanna be respected and different social sects have their expectations. a thugs got to shoot someone for disrespecting him and a frat boys got to rape a girl because he has to get pussy at every party. racism is ignorance, look at the horrors of your own culture before blaming another.

i think the fundamental issue is still a matter of classicism and african americans are more typically of a lower class then the white majority. these kids are old enough to see the poor black people in their community and the "happy" white families on tv or in a nicer neighborhood. i`m not going to get into the debate of the economic situation of african americans (freed slaves should have listened more to Booker T. Washington and less to W.E.B Dubois) but i feel that it stems more from this than any conceived racial agenda.

Part of the way to solve this, is to not put it in their heads in the first place. Adults pass negative views of other people into their kids. They aren`t born with it. Doesn`t matter if your black or white, people look down on others by how much money they have, what they wear, etc. It is because we have people who look down their noses, narrow mindedness, puny little people with nothing better to do then to criticize someone who doesn`t live up to their expectations, they want to make the rules, and some have gotten and get away with it. Making the rest of us miserable listening to their views. It starts with the ADULTS!!

I remember watching this and studying this in seventh grade.

My class learned how this preference begins at a young age. In the video we watched, someone showed a group of kindergartners a picture of a white man and a picture of a black man. Then they asked the kids which man seems to be a teacher and which man seems to be a bad person.

Most kindergartners thought that the white man was the teacher and the black man was the bad person when really, the white man was a murderer and the black man taught at Harvard.

White does not get dirtier more easily. Both black and white can get dirty at the same amount. It`s just that you can see it more on whites. Why are you using dirt as an example?

I thought it was interesting that the creator of the film was complaining about wanting to be a princess, and there are no black princesses.
Well of course not in the way that she`s thinking about... learn some heritage.

Ever hear of Princess Nandi of the Zulu tribe? Theres others but thats off the top of my head.
Ok, sorry you can`t be a white princess combing her pretty blonde hair up in a tower and waiting for her knight in shining armor while singing to chipmonks and bluebirds.

I can`t be a kickass powerful princess of one of the more intriguing african tribes in history. IMO, I`m missing out more...

aww thats so sad. I don`t understand why they would think that the white doll is better than the black doll and i`m white! Anyone of any skin color can be beautiful. Actually now that I think about it, I think it is just because you don`t see as many black women or men in magazines and on tv in commercials or even celebrity wise so they grow up thinking white is all i see so white is what must be better.
I understand that skin color isn`t as big of an issue anymore at all but it still exists and I wish there would come a day when it didn`t matter anymore.

I`m just guessing, but maybe they think the bad one is the black doll because black is a dark color. And everyone knows white is a lighter, and brighter color. Kids are afraid of the dark. Its a dark color. Kids can play outside during the day time but when it starts to get dark out... they have to go in. They are being taught that dark colors are bad. I think. I don`t even really know. I`m just saying. I played with black barbies as a child. It was fun... just as fun as when playing with the white barbie.

Wow. The same results? Now that`s sad.

It reminds me when my girlfriend and I went into a store that was the entrance to this big park and funland for kids. On the inside it had a nursing station and all these dolls. Sometimes some dolls didn`t get played with as much and they would sell them in the clearance section of the store part of the funland. Guess what was all over the clearance rack? Yeah, the black dolls.

It shouldn`t be still going on today, but it is.
