"Mrs Palin, a social conservative who is opposed to abortion, said in a statement her daughter Bristol would keep the child and was to get married."

Good, I like how she keeps by her political view even in this time.

"Bristol is reportedly five months pregnant and would be due to give birth in late December."

That would make the DailyKos story fake considering the baby isn`t that old so it would be hard for the daughter to get pregnant twice.

"This shouldn`t be part of our politics. It has no relevance to Governor Palin`s performance as a governor, or her potential performance as a vice-president."

    Kudos Barack, Kudos

How times have changed. Once upon a time the social conservatives would have stitched a red letter "A" to her chest and ridden her out of town on a rail. Now they`re praising her "family values" for keeping the child and getting married.

So does that mean that Sarah Palin DID board 2 flights after her water had broken and then drove extra, past the hospital that could take care of her premie baby, and to a small town one?

    REALLY!?

I think she`s not as far along as they are claiming and really going on her second child. Cause, you know, it`s just WAY to convenient that she just happens to be pregnant now to debunk those internet rumors.

Right because her 5 month old pregnant daughter can give birth to this AND the 4 month old son?

"So does that mean that Sarah Palin DID board 2 flights after her water had broken and then drove extra, past the hospital that could take care of her premie baby, and to a small town one?"

Water often breaks way before. You have a good amount of time to do whatever you like.

This is a private family matter and should not figure into the elections. At least they`re sticking to their beliefs and keeping the baby and making their daughter marry the guy. Most liberals would say to just kill the kid and get it over with.

But in the long run this is just the media`s attempt to assassinate her character before she even goes beyond 72 hours as the VP pick. Interesting that there`s no mention of Biden`s flaws. That guy has been in the Senate for years and I`m sure he has more than 1 skeleton in his closet, all politicians do. But most media outlets don`t want to spoil Obama`s coronation so they aren`t bothering.

Anyway, I support Obama, but I also still think this issue should be left out of the media, politcs, and such. It`s a private matter that, as Obama said, does not whatsoever reflect upon Sarah Palin`s(heh, Monty Python, lol) ability as a political leader(although I do think she has little anyway, IMO).

i also agree this should be kept out of the media, considering its private, but of course it was going to get out. also, i think that obama played a very good card by being classy about it and not attacking. the situation will work itself out by the republicans saying it was a matter of "love" or something. either way i bet the daughter will feel like sh*t.

domisgood is right on with that.

Obama and his camp have the respect to leave the matter alone, but Republicans like Anne Coulter would be all over Biden if it were his daughter.

Note, however, that their daughter at 17 is getting married... they of course have to throw out there that the mother and father will be getting married to have a hunky-dory life. That`s the only way it`d be acceptable in the eyes of the Republican camp. How much you want to bet one of them doesn`t actually want to get married?

I`ve just got to say it. 1) Obama did say "This shouldn`t be part of our politics," which is smart, because then, he doesn`t look dirty. He doesn`t even have to say anything, because the MEDIA ARE STILL ALL OVER IT.

    2) YES, it DOES have something to do with politics - it speaks to how well Palin is raising her kids. Someone`s not watching the kids, perhaps because *someone* cares more about her job than her family?

Primetimekin - hurricanes have nothing to do with family values. You are quite observant.
The two things I mentioned are both ironic because - 1) G.W. Bush and McCain were having a birthday party the last time a hurricane hit new orleans, and 2) Republican`s just love to talk about family values, yet she couldn`t even keep her daughter out of harms way (also, ironic because had they not been anti-birth control, this wouldn`t have happened.)

Personally. Here`s what I got out of this.
I clicked the link and found "Palin`s teenage daughter pregnant" staring me down.
    My reaction?

    SO WHAT?!

What does it matter that her daughter got knocked up. Does that mean she wouldn`t be able to help McCain run the country? NO. It means her daughter made a mistake that MILLIONS of young women make every day around the world.

Get over it people and quit shoving into the lives of other people. You`ve got plenty on your own plate to worry about.

    Who cares? I happen to.

I personally believe he did know. Now McCain just offered up everyone a chance to throw in a sympathy vote. `O she is so strong because she gave birth to a child with downs and supports her teenage daughters pregnancy`.

Whatever, how about troopergate, her over the top right wing politics, drilling on anything in a futile attempt to "help the energy crisis", wanting creationism to be taught in classes, pro-life no matter what, even less experience than Obama and frankly half as educated.

Of course, this all only matters if VPs actually did. Well, unless of course your power mad Cheney.

we all know the fact that the Rep. VP`s deughter is pregnant out of wedlock is not an issue (despite the fact that conservative republicans believe in abstinence-only sex education despite scientific research suggesting safe-sex education is a more sound plan)

I`m pretty sure McCain knew about the pregnancy (seeing as it was already "news" in Alaska),and I imagine that it`s just one more thing about this VP pick that`s going to make it hard for the opposing side to complain about without sounding like a bunch of hypocrites. You just wait and see.

this story doesn`t add up to me...

If McCain knew about this...the Republicans most likely would have said something. since Palin is supposed to bolster far right conservatives and women alike, it is unlikely that McCain would keep this bottled until now and released it only to put rumors to rest. If this was made mention of when she was first nominated, i would buy that McCain felt it was no big deal

Saying it now makes it seem more like a cover up...sex out of wedlock is a conservative taboo...McCain knows that and would have made a point to deal with the potential PR nightmare...

it may be that Bristol didn`t tell her parents until fairly recently (if she could hide it)...growing up in a ultra-conservative household, maybe she was afraid of how her parents would react...idk

either way...nominating a right wing republican VP and then casually saying "btw, her 17 year old unwed daughter is knocked up" doesn`t add up 2 me

also i think republicans will quickly try to silence anyone who tries to discuss this.

is someone says "her daughter is pregnant out of wedlock...yet conservatives constantly tell us how sexually promiscuous gays and lesbians are...maybe there`s something that can be said of conservative bigotry"...republicans will more than likely not debate this observation

more likely they will scream, yell, and repeat... "this is a family matter!!! leave her child out of this!!! respect their privacy!!! leave it to evil liberals to attack a defenseless girl!!!"

What just came out DOES matter and does pertain to politics when your platform is family values.

She wants to take out sex education in schools and put in abstinence only programs and that`s the point everyone is missing. It is something that obviously doesn`t work and her family is evidence of that. It should be brought up when the issue of sex education comes up.

while you may be right, orionsbelt ...Obama was actually very quick to silence the discussions about this (I don`t even think as a political move...I think he was very sincere about dropping it). If someone where to say that Obama himself was born from a young single mother, his supporters would brush it off as no big deal. The point is...it really is a non-issue, and I think I`m seeing that Palin is being pretty open about everything...again, I think this is just people trying to create craziness out of anything they can.

Love it how the very first sentence says the grandmother is against abortion.

And to those who don`t care, there are people that would look at this and have doubts if the VP is truly a good person, and if she isn`t, McCain was worse off picking her. People can try and ignore it, but it`s always lingering in their mind. Just like Jackson was to Obama.

but here`s something to think about...what if her kid was getting an abortion? would it be a big deal?

why if it was a family matter did Palin say anything at all? if it is no big deal, why not just say "she`s pregnant"?

while it may have sounded like she made no comment, she made a play to her base by saying she was going to have the child and get married...

because Palin is a right conservative, i can only assume she is against sex out of wedlock, unless she realizes ppl make their own choices and maybe her religion`s ideals should not be treated as black and white as she thought...

but what about Dick Cheney...should he have commented when asked if his child was suited to be a parent...since his previous comments clearly tells us he should say his child is not suited for parenthood? was it right for him not to answer on grounds that it was a family issue?

perhaps cheney should be expected to answer because his cabinet`s position more widely documented...

I think you`re missing that people knew about this already...even before she was announced as the running mate (admittedly, mostly no one cared because nobody knew who she was until a week ago). I mean...yeah...she probably didn`t want her kid to have a kid out of wedlock...it doesn`t make her a hypocrite, it just means there was a mistake made...it happens...however, it seems as if her and her family are dealing with it in a way that suits the way they believe it should be dealt with. Believe me. Also, it would be wise to drop the whole "Dick Cheney`s daughter is gay" routine...It made Kerry/Edwards sound desperate...and all of this "Palins kid is pregnant" mumbo-jumbo sounds the same

C`mon people. This is the 21st century. So her daughter had sex out of wedlock. I`m sure Mrs. Palin didn`t exactly jump for joy when she found out she was soon to be a gramma. But, It`s not like she will disown her daughter either. It`s their problem, NOT the nations problem. And it should have nothing to do with how we vote or if Mrs. Palin will or will not be a good VP. I`m going for Obama, but If I was going to vote for McCain, this wouldn`t change it in any way.

if her daughter was getting an abortion it could look hypocritical of palin but she is not and it only shows how dedicated to her beliefs Palin is, for her to support her daughter

I personally question the fact that there was a coverup earlier about the other baby.. Its rumored that it was the daughters baby also and Sarah covered that one up.. and low and behold, daughter is pregnant "again".. seems like she needs to buy some duct tape if you ask me..

NeiltheSheep...u don`t see a problem with what Cheney said (or wouldn`t say)? he attacked people based on sexual orientation...but his values fell just short of questioning his own daughter...

and its not to watch him squirm, or in any way attack his daughter...its to make him understand

tell him to look at his own daughter...he knows her better then anyone; and he knows that she would make a good parent...but no, he bowed to his base and wouldn`t retract his statement that, by association, hurt his own daughter

but bck on subject...i just heard about Trig and how she flew from Texas to Alaska after her water broke just so it could be born in Alaska...but not just Alaska, some hospital that wasn`t equipped for the special needs child (despite passing a hospital that WAS equipped for special needs children).

    now THERE`S something fishy...

Ugh, everyone is still missing the point. No one is attacking her daughter and I don`t think what her daughter did was wrong in any sense.

I care about that Palin wants to enact an abstinence only education and not a well rounded sex education. Her family is living proof that this method doesn`t work because when kids are not going to listen and have sex anyway they aren`t educated on the ways to protect themselves as best possible.

That is what everyone is actually discussing who has any shred of intelligence. Why is this website incredibly right wing or just not very good at getting the POINT.

it is embarassing how this 1 pregnancy is part of america`s broadcasts and its "political" simply because mom is running for VP. Obama said the right thing about it and that should be the end of it. I am for sex-education, as opposed to abstinence education, but using someone`s kid as a political prop is unacceptable.

Gahhhhh its not a political prop!! You people are INSANE! It is just clear EVIDENCE that abstinence only education DOES NOT WORK and that is what should be focused on.

GAHH STOP TURNING THIS INTO A GOSSIP GAME. It is not. Just because you say it is doesn`t make it one.

Good ole conservatives and their abstinence-only sex-ed. Kids who want sex are going to have sex; it is nothing but foolish to try and suppress several hundred million years of sexual instinct. The best one can do is teach kids how to do it and not regret it\screw it up.

I don`t get how republicans can say this is no big deal...isn`t unwed teenage mothers one of the many things they are against (yes i know she is getting married but she was preggers out of wedlock)

this is not an issue for moderates or democrats or whatever...but this IS and issue for right wing extreme religious ppl...which is who McCain played to with her nomination

normal ppl wouldn`t get bent out of shape about this...but its odd how there isn`t a major uproar in the conservative camp...maybe they`re growing up...but i remember when conservative would crucify the daughter and mother by association

but then why nominate her in the first place...since their big thing is religion, shouldn`t issues like sex and free will be the main thing on their mind, like the environment and our bill of rights are paramount in our minds?

also...why do far rights constantly say global warming is a myth/not a problem/not our fault? (Palin chooses it`s not our fault)

Hells Bells~who gives a rip? Other candidates kids were sure brought into close scrutiny in past. I am not saying it`s right, but it is typical.

And yeah, when Sarah Palin`s daughter gets pregnant out of wedlock but Mom doesn`t agree with sex ed. or abortion~I think there problems with that.
