No way those are Florescent Bulbs. Glass aside, they`re filled with mercury gas. Cancer much?

now this s@@@ i would watch!

seriously, tv, is it so hard to make shows that are ACTUALLY DANGEROUS to a degree? like that show in russia where you have to drive a "stolen" car away from the cops for half an hour and if you win you get to keep the car. if you lose, you get a savage beating, but that`s fun too!

stay zany, japan.

they are filled with a gas.. let it be argon, neon or whatever -on you find in the periodi table.. and then they simply add just a tiny drop of mercury at the end of fabrication and close the whole thing..

MonoBrow: "<sarcasm> Yes, Mercury is a gas at room temperature... </sarcasm>"

Don`t be a snotty jerk.

Fluorescent lights work by exciting mercury vapor.

Please remove foot from mouth now. Thanks.

I know that; as you said It`s a "vapor", NOT A GAS!! Totally different. Gases and vapors are way different.

I thought old time hats had a thin lead ring inside to hold shape for the wearer.

Haha, the last line of the video: "To all you good little children: don`t imitate this!"

CrakrJak:
I thought they used it to stiffen the brims?

Hmm.. Although they use mercury vapor, it`s still a liquid, that and bromine are the only two elements that are liquid under standard conditions.

These still have mercury in them and it is toxic.

Hat makers in England used to use mercury to put put a shine on the hats they made, The Mercury poisoning made them go mad. Thus the phrase "Mad as a hatter".

Actually doesn`t hurt at all to smash these on you. And the coating is not terribly harmful. Its like a magic trick, just an illusion of pain and possible bodily harm.

Wait, aren`t those things full of mercury gas or something equally horrible? shouldn`t he be worried?

Like something from a Kraftwerk video concept. And yes thecranberry- they are filled with mercury based compounds, which generally speaking aren`t too good.

yeah its all powdery and stuff.. has to cause cancer.. eeeh.. no!

ever been sweeping dust? bet you got cancer too now.. that powdery stuff basically is just paint on the inside of the tube so the blue light created by these bulbs gets filtered and out comes white light.. not healthy maybe.. but causing cancer?

oh yeah and by the way.. japanese wrestlers do that all the time :)

A perfect demonstration of what happens when pure, unbridled talent (genius?) is nurtured and developed by years and years of hard work and dedication.

...no, wait..

this isn`t a game show. this is a show where people show off stuff, like crazy high endurance or a special skill

Reminded me of Phelps, at first.
Swimming. Really fast. With water flying everywhere.

wicked. It`s times like these I wish I could be on a Japanese game show (human tetris would be my #1 choice).

I meant... if that powder gets in your lungs. I can imagine those microscopic shards of glass cutting you from inside as you breathe and what`s inside it probably causes cancer if you breathe it in. It`s all powdery.
