Aeladil, your pro-woman rant is tiresome. I can appreciate the plight of women in that culture but it has every bit to do with religion and the devout lack of evaluation of centuries-old tradition it encourages. And the problem isn`t just the abuse of women, as you seem to think. (These women weren`t abused, they were murdered, by the way.) The culture of violence brewing in that region isn`t directed solely at women, although they do bear the brunt of it. No, the problem is much deeper than that, and we`re not going to see any progress until Islam wholly and fully renounces violence and fear, which we`re not likely to see in our lifetimes.

Atrocities like this happen despite the religion, faith, or ethnicity of those involved. Yes, they are more common in some parts of the world, but that doesn`t mean women in the US and in Canada or England are any less likely to be abused. We have come a LONG way in the last 100 years alone; gaining the vote, working, and speaking out against work place harrassment. But we have so much farther to go.

What happened here is sick. What happens WHENEVER, WHERE EVER a woman is abused is sick.

A real man would know how to control his anger and frustration - rather than revert to a brutish, precivilization mindset.

The men that perpetrated these acts should be castrated and made to live as women for the rest of their days. Maybe then they will understand the depths of depravity certain parts of the world contain against the female sex.

can you uh... cut down on the ellipses a bit?

you say us young people should be doing stuff to help. well, have you yourself done anything to help?

if so, please, enlighten us as to some of your doings, but if you`re going to bitch at the rest of us for not doing anything when you`re not, that`s kinda messed up

Phoenix6, you`re Pakistani from the UAE? So am I! Christian? So am I? Who are you??? We might know each other. Anyway, yeah I agree with some of what you said, I just believe that people shouldn`t be blaming Islam per se, just Muslim who`re distorting what Islam is all about. You won`t see what happened to those Baluchi women happening regularly in Karachi, just like you won`t see David Koresh type people harping about all over New York.

"No other religion has extremists"? Get real.

Though I am not muslim, I can plainly tell that what these people are doing is not staying true to the vision of the Prophet. There is much history backing up Muhummad`s commitment to gender equality. These people are mocking the faith they claim to embrace.

Yeah I mean I can agree the reasons it started were not becasue of religion as such but I lay bet if you had parade around N. Ireland at the time saying hey I`m Protestant they`d have beaten you to a pulp becasue of that.

Sure, my family`s way more modern...and christian but i know what goes on in both places and i think it`s disgusting. Their religion is not necessarily the only thing to blame, but the ignorance of some of the people following it as well.

Forced marriages aren`t allowed in islam, and everyone has a choice as to who they marry. All these honour killings are usually by men who have a distorted view of what honour is, and control whatever they can.

boybeternow- the root word of islam is submission, as in sumbition to God and his wishes

I wasn`t surprised to hear that this happened in Baluchistan (an ethnic region spread over Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan). Women there are suppressed from even voting. Unfortunately, the law there is all in the hands of religious and tribal leaders, who are mostly suffering from the abovementioned small dick syndrome as well.

THIS IS WHERE THE HUGE DIFFERENCE IS. Warren Jeffs quickly became most wanted in US, eventually caught AND PUT IN PRISON, most likely FOR LIFE. Not even a word about investigation from the Pakistani police in that News report. Tough luck? Or maybe because they won`t even move a muscle to try and catch the ones responsible?

"Of the Muslims I know who choose to wear it, they wear it with pride."

One of the countries where acid attacks are most common is Pakistan. 80% of the targets are young women, the majority of the reasons why they were attacked by acid attack was precisely because they walked around unveiled.

I don`t care if the select few you know in civilized Europe wear it with pride. Problem is, TOO MANY wear it out of fear. Fearing that some psycho self-righteous Muslim zealot, suffering from small dick syndrome, would run up and throw a glass of acid in their face for exercizing their free will.

Yes, Singapore is actually more developed than LA. FAR more developed than New York and in the last poll worldwide about the world`s favourite country for Americans and Europeans to settle down in, Singapore was number 1.

And for the guy who said

HA HA HA Balujistan (sp.) doesn`t sound like a real place.

Also, back during slavery in America people would beat and sometimes kill slaves who ran away and apart from other slaves nobody batted an eye. Yes, it`s terrible that this happened but the fact is that this is part of the country`s culture and the women knew that when they were trying to get married. I don`t condone the activity but it`s almost a different world over there and these things happen.

You`re all MISSING THE POINT - it wasn`t the second word that was the reason they were buried alive, it was the first word - "marriage". We all know that any woman cruel and callous enough to inflict `marriage` on a man should be dealt with appropriately.

Oh, and for those who asked me how the election campaign is going... I`m 99% certain I`m going to lose in 49 States, but I`m still pretty confident I can win the Presidency from a recount in Florida...

"if ur wife is forced to wear a head scarfe you are not combatible with democracy"

First of all, it`s a Hijab (and I`ve never heard of a scarfe..) It`s a Muslim tradition that women even in the US CHOOSE to do.. Of the Muslims I know who choose to wear it, they wear it with pride. And, Iran is the country with the law that all must wear it, even foreigners. Maybe in certain sections of Pakistan they must, like in the rural areas, but did you not notice in the video there are women without it?

Anyway.
I think, just in all religions, there are extremists. This is a country matter, where they are years behind the rest in things considering human rights. It`s horrendous, and it`s good to at least see women protesting and KNOWING they`re being treated wrong. Hopefully they continue to fight, and in all things against a higher power, there are martyrs- hopefully, it makes them want their personal freedom more.

I can`t believe the one guy from the Pakistani legislature was saying, "These are centuries-old traditions and I will continue to defend them. Only those who indulge in immoral acts should be afraid."

In fairness, many of the members stood up in protest, calling the executions "barbaric."

Let`s hope so. ;-/

Even if you were ust kidding around, it`s not funny. It really isn`t when you look at the issues. People, innocent people, are being killed off because of what they believe in.

Teaching hate is horrific, I hear of preachers trying to tell "the word of God", and all they have to say after it is how to judge others on nothing but suspect or even just outright lies.

Children as young as possibly 3 years are being taught this. It`s disgusting, seriously.

There`s really no comparison, yellowsquare. You`re not going to find an American politician openly defending the killing of women simply because they want more of a choice in deciding who they are to marry. This is not abuse, this is murder.

(stupid character limit)

I`m not trying to take away from the trials these women have endured. I am outraged that such things happen to not only Muslim women, but women around the world.

I`m with you on the women`s rights thing, quick_sand88. But I think women`s rights should be a global effort, not just a Middle Eastern effort, since there are women in our very own country who live the same abusive lives as their Pakistani counterparts.

"Rare there MY AZZ!!! It happens EVERY DAY!!"

quick_sand88, how could you possibly know what happens every day in Pakistan? I`d be willing to bet you`ve never set foot in another country, let alone a Middle Eastern country like Pakistan. Don`t tell me you believe the inciteful, hate-mongering war-time propaganda fed to us by the government/media?

Sure, some Pakistani men oppress and abuse Pakistani women. As do some American men to American women. There are thousands of battered and abused American women right here in the United States. Have you heard of Warren Jeffs and his polygamist ranch? Do a quick google search and see how many thousands of women`s shelters there are around the nation.

We only hear about Pakistan`s abusive men because they`re (typically) Muslim. It doesn`t mean all Pakistani (or Muslim) men are abusive.
