Its pretty dangerous for those of you who are asking. Since Sulfur Hexafluoride is heavier than air, its going to take longer for it to leave your lungs, and you could potentially "drown" and suffocate to death IF you inhale too much.

The amount Adam inhaled is practically harmless, but its better to be safe and do it around other people then when your alone and by yourself.

You can get it out of your system with a breath or two anyway.

Sulfur hexafluoride isn`t supposed to be toxic, but since it`s denser than air, it stays in your lungs longer. So if you breathe it a lot you could replace all the oxygen in your lungs with sulfur hexafluoride.

So you`d suffocate, essentially.

Unfortunately, even if you`re willing to take that risk, I think SF6 is kinda hard to find outside of a chemistry lab.

Argon gas will do the same thing, But he`s right It`s not healthy to inhale anything but regular air (or oxygen for those that need it).

that second voice was freaky !

i mean...if you had some of the gas and a few baloons, just imagine how many people you could send to the loony bin in the middle of the night D:

This was in the "cool physics videos" collection posted just yesterday (or so). Perhaps the submitter liked that video so much they decided it needed its own entry...?

One problem with this is that the two gases don`t change the pitch (frequency) of the voice, only the timbre. Because helium is less dense than air, the effect you hear is of the voice coming from a smaller resonant cavity, and vice-versa for sulphur hexaflouride. /geekout

I`ve seen this a while back in a 9th grade science camp, except the person who did this went upside-down so that its just as safe as inhaling helium while right-side up (the gas is heavier than air, so exhaling it while upside down is just as safe as exhaling helium while rightside up)
