You can bet that if it were an orca it`d be in a zoo with activists sitting on top of it right now.
And chaitanya, chile = very far from china. I don`t think China would even have the giant pool down the street from what is probly a very crowded harbor area.
the right thing was done. is it sad it had to happen this way? of course it is. I feel bad for the poor thing, but what was done was all that was left to do.
that could fit a hundred whales. blue whales. full grown blue whales. this is mean. they could have even left it. they dont have to step in to satisfy their craving for killing.
The same thing could be said about people that suffer daily from incurable diseases. People that are in so much pain that they would be better off dead. Lots of them even want to die but can`t bring themselves to do it.
As it turns out - NO!!! There ISN`T.
Seriously people, go read a book or something! You just might learn something that way. You can`t just force feed a whale like you would a cat or simply put it in a zoo and hope for the best.
Face the facts people- nature is brutal and uncompromising.
This whale got lost from its mother and began to try to suckle from a bunch of boats. If humans didn`t act the whale would have died a slow and agonizing death from starvation.
There`s no use getting upset over these sorts of things, because nature is all about survival of the fittest. Just one mistake can be a matter of life and death in the wild.
But I would rather it be put out of it`s suffering quickly versus having tubes shoved down its throat and just making it very stressful for it and then just having it dying.
I also thought it was funny how that woman was talking about it like it was a rapid animal. "it had to be DESTROYED!! Humanly."
As usual, you don`t know the full story. Hundreds of people have worked for 3 weeks to try many, many options. Everything has been tried, and failed - the whale was just too young and kept returning to the boats when removed to suckle at them. This has cost taxpayers millions so far in `clever` attempts to help the whale, and this really was the only option left. OK, so YOU think its sad... what do you think the people who have devoted the last 3 weeks 24/7 to trying to help the whale think about it? And yet they were left with no other choice...
And ThePom - you live in the wrong place mate... there isn`t a yacht on Sydney Harbour that DOESN`T have a bonza display of nipples...
I`m sure there was a better way to handle it.
why would it starve if it were in a zoo??
Snivellus. that`s exactly what i was thinking.
haha, I`m not sure if "destroyed" was the best word to use.
but yes...i wish it had lived!
