a well hidden gun, also not 1 per teacher but enough for defence in emergency situations would be good

" We`ll usually even give you money and manpower to repair any collateral damage sustained by ridding your country of whatever tyrannical vermin have infested or invaded it."

Does that include when the "tyrannical vermin that have infested or invaded it" is the US?

^^You`ve apparently never been to Texas the town probably has a pop of about 50 so opening another police station would be stupid and wasteful.
@Whoopdoop777
Please don`t shoot kitties the beter solution would be to pet them they`ll become your friend and even get rid of mice and other rodents for you.

Two things..

1. If the closest police station is 30 mins away, why not open one closer? Sounds like the area is badly under-policed and the government need to take care of that.

2. Poor teachers. They have a tough enough job already, and people expect them to take on a vigilante role too? Yes, protecting kids is their responsibility but I think this takes it too far.

I can see why they reached this decision, but I don`t think it`s the right one. The message it gives to kids `it`s good to bring guns to school, just in case` is scary, and I really don`t think they have explored all avenues before coming to this drastic conclusion.

Someone else here mentioned tasers - a non-lethal yet debilitating weapon. Surely a more appropriate last resort than expecting a teacher to shoot to kill?

What if a student brings a zip gun? A zip (pen) gun that also works as a pen. It`d look like a totally innocent looking pen... of DOOM!

@woopdoop I think you need to calm down a bit, you really aren`t coming across very well. I personally don`t have a problem with Texas, my dad works over there quite a lot and says it`s a fine place.

Now thats out of the way - I think that the real problem that America faces is fear. I understand that there have been tragic incidents in some of your schools however if you take each one of these incidents and compare that to the number of schools there are in the US, the chances of it happening to an individual school are increadably remote. However, arming a teaching staff, even a well trained staff, is going to significantly increase the chance of a death in that school.

it`s about time! anyways, in terms of advertising, it`s not as simple as "they have a gun, i`ll get one too!" in most cases. you either want a gun or don`t. i know the most stubborn liberals who won`t even consider getting a gun no matter what people tell them

It isn`t my fault that I live in a city with a population of 300 and my parents make there money off of heads of cattle, it isnt my fault that a local dish here is opossum, or that i learned how to shoot a gun at the age of seven. It isn`t my fault that i can barrel race in 10.8 seconds or that im involved in the voluntary slaughter of goats, lambs, and pigs. I AM A PRODUCT OF MY FCKING ENVIRONMENT. getting drunk in the corn fields is my favorite past time and i shoot cats rather than buy my labradors a proper meal

Yes, if it weren`t for those liberals, we would have never had Virginia Tech, Columbine, or the countless other senseless school shootings. Damn those liberals and their staunch view that guns should be easily accessible at all times, even if you have a mental illness that would show up on a background check. /Sarcasam

"And americans wonder why so many people worldwide believe the stereotype of gun toting rednecks....."

That`s right. Keep believing it and spread the word. We are Americans. We are armed. We will kill. If you need help, call us. We work for free. We`ll usually even give you money and manpower to repair any collateral damage sustained by ridding your country of whatever tyrannical vermin have infested or invaded it.

Having a gun in the classroom does not make a teacher more likely to go postal, it just makes the weapon more conveniently located, if they do. On a case-by-case basis, I think it is perfectly acceptable here. If something were to happen without protection, the school would be wiped long before any help would arrive, and having a security guard won`t always guarantee the security of the entire building, only the area where the guard is.

Oh f*k that. This better not reach anywhere else. Last thing I need are my teachers goin postal in my class when they don`t get their coffee. I only read the first page because i`m lazy . . . .But, seems someone thinks a child cannot get over a traumatizing event. If your child cannot handle something traumatizing, then he was f*ked anyways.

Political corectness has been dead ever since the name political corectness had to be invented.. Why it is that I cant get any scholarships with a 3.8 GPA while my friend with the last name gonzales gets 15,00 dollars worth ill never understand. that has nothing to do with anything except that I hate liberals and I hate there ideals and I hate how people protecting themselves are ridiculed by dumb sh*ts. call me a ignorant redneck, cuz i am. Any way, I`m from Texas and although I`m in Austin; the most liberal place in the `South`, I can tell you from first hand experience that Texas is home to many of the most intelligent people in the world. Please don`t lump us together with a bunch of redneck stereotypes.

on the topic of gunmens if that ever happens god forbid.. thats up to the school and the police to handle.. the school should be using metal detectors or chains or doors or something to prevent gunmen from entering the school not leaving it up to the teachers to fight them.. teachers should be locking the doors and keeping the kids safe not going outside the classroom leaving the students to go out and act like robocop or something

AHHHH! Woopdoop!!!! OMG stop talking. Now does anyone have anything intelligent to say on this subject? I have only seen a small handful of actually intelligent posts. Yeah, of course teachers can "flip out" and of course "accidents happen" you morons. Thank you for bringing that to our attention. But I suppose 1 or 2 gunmen armed to the teath and killing 12 students without ANY competition would fall under one of those categories too hmmm? I would much rather take my chances of a few isolated incidents of accidents happening than a gunman being able to kill our children while the teachers and others are helpless to respond.

FACT: Charles Whitman (texas college sniper circa 1966) Killed unopposed until a college professor fired back with his hunting rifle. Also students who had firearms close by got them and helped pin him until he could be killed. While he was being pinned, he could not rise up to take aim and kill more.

Well if you want to get into it then I guess the only Fcking solution is to prevent an education as that seems the only thing that will keep people safe and all of you p*ssies happy... this is not an ideal world and it is not an ideal solution but it is a solution none the less because if you dont realize it IDEAL DOESNT EXIST and fck everyone who thinks they have the right to say its wrong if people werent so afraid of things (guns, alcohol, marijuana) and people had been exposed to it.. we wouldnt go so overboard when we finally get our hands on it. People that have been around guns more wont accidentaly shoot someone because they know what they are doing. You prevent people from being around guns and then they get older and the first thing they do is go hunting with a friend and they know nothing about guns.. thats when the accidents start.. same thing can be said for marijuana and alcohol and even nudity dam it

mother f*** texas.. i can say that because i live here. You know whats gonna happen because of this? first of all theres a possibilty if a student ever gets a hold of the teacher`s gun and someone gets hurt. Then theres the possibilty of crazy teachers (if you had there job and got paid there money u be mad too)

please excuse my english..

Of course this is logical. It`s not like teachers are totally immune from snapping compared to other adults. How much longer until some second grade teacher can`t take all the screaming and shouting and decides to pull out her trusty shotgun.

And i also challenge everyone of you little B*stards to come to Texas and say that you hate it. F*Ck every single one of you that says you hate texas and F*CK anything bad you have to say about it. To say you hate Texas is to say you hate the world because Texas has the most variety in culture then any other state i have ever been too. Dont be ignorant enough to look at what you watch on T.V. and think that we all ride horses and talk with an accent. The prevailent accent here is a hispanic one and the only difference between you and us is that we have a spine and aren`t afraid to say what needs to be said. Walk down a street in N.Y. and walk down one in Texas and see the difference in the amount of smiles and "how do you dos?" you get. Just because we have class and aren`t afraid to voice are opinions doesnt mean you have to hate us. We are friendly people and its sad to see so many of you ignorant enought to base opinions on something you know nothing about.

All of you are liberal dumbasses. First of all dont say you hate texas if you`ve never been there, or even if you have. Texas is not like a state, more like a country with very very different cultures. West texas is the farming, austin is completely arts and liberal, and south texas is practically another country so for you to say you hate texas is being the most ignorant F*ck i have ever heard. Second of all.. obviously the p*ssy techniques we have been using dont work. The more liberal we get, the pootier are moral becomes. Do you live here? no. Do you think the teachers would keep the gun out in the open for kids to play with? no, they`d keep it secured. You dont live in their environment, and this is obviously the best for their environment since the teachers UNANIMOUSLY voted on it. since when has a teacher killed a student? I`ve heard of more students killing teachers than vice versa.get your head out of your a*ses and dont speak unless you know what you`re talking about

I think it is a great idea. Argentina Air allows their patrons to carry guns on to the plane. it makes sense to me i think that a majority of individuals who commit crimes on schools involving guns do so because of the lack of guns on the school ground. would any of the school massacres ever have been massacres in the first place if teachers where allowed to carry guns and use them in case of an emergency. and besides the guy said in the news cast that the guns would not be on the teachers person at all times. I vote yes on proposition 120. seems like a good idea to me

Isn`t that the same mentality as, "If we could`ve brought guns on airplanes, I could`ve shot those terrorists dead!"

This just makes me think that the guns are going to be more widely available for students to steal...

Hm.

This is a tough one.

Go Texas. I`m really happy they did this, and I hope more schools follow their example.

I know I`m showing my age (Class of `86) and redneck upbringing (North Alabama), but when I was in high school, we brought guns to school all the time (well, not me personally, I didn`t own one). But lots of students did.

I mean, no one carried a gun into Algebra class, but we would often go out behind the football field to fire off a few rounds with our shop teacher and our football coach. It was fun. Who cares what a bunch of whiny-a$$ed liberals think? No one got shot at our school, most all the guys had knives at all times, or "ninja throwing stars" if you were in jr. high and into that sort of thing (I had the throwing knives, yay!).

BTW peeps, these teachers are not just handed firearms and told to "break a leg" they go through safety courses and concealed gun permit handling procedures. They are also evaluated mentally and socially as well as stress monitoring. I cannot speak for this Texas town in particular, but from my own research this rings true. No I will not prove it to you... look it up yourself it`s all there on the internet. Oh and Groogle... you are just another subjective minded extremist social parasite with your comments... get a grip on reality.

Absolutely BRAVO!! Yet another forward thinking and realistic school system. I have done numerous studies in college including having written a few papers about gun control and teachers with guns. Good for them, they can now join the ranks of Salt Lake City as well as South Dakota schools who are all allowed to carry personal firearms in some fashion. Out-friggin-standing I say.

Think about the childrens, even if you save their life do you really think they would get over watching their teacher killing a man in cold blood?

Looks like they want home scholling to become more popular... and next theya re going to remplace teachers with robots.

I support this for the most part. The principal and at least 2 teachers on each floor on each wing should be able to carry a gun.
But the gun must take three sections before it`s ready to fire, ie, bullets needed to be loaded, guns need to be in case, and the guns need to be locked in a locker-type storage device inside the classroom with the teacher.

... or something of that sort. But that`s only my opinion.
