Amazing mind and body control. I wish I could just play one piano a tenth as good as this guy with two hands.

Urm - Sorry, not massively impressed. You use two hands semi-independently when playing a standard piano or any kind of keyboard. Like, if you put two keyboards in front of me, but seperate from each other, I`d still be able to touchtype even using both - because the keys are in the same places for the hands, just slightly further apart. As mentioned above, I expected an actual piece of you know, music. Sorry guys, I appreciate the effort, but you get a grade *FAIL* from me. (And I don`t usually comment.)

Must agree with those who say that this piece is difficult to play; i saw a live performance by two piano majors who had difficulty with it. Welcome to the world of 20th century music; full of experimentation that the extremely high-brow call "brilliant" while the rest of us say, "huh?"

Now you want crap, watch a recording of 4:33 by John Cage. In this piece, either a soloist, small ensemble, or full orchestra hit the stage, tune, and then sit there doing nothing for four minutes and thirty-three seconds. The "music" is made up of sounds the audience produces, which generally the sound of them slowly dying of boredom, or saying to each other, "What the hell is this crap?"

Oh, and sorry to say it, but not many people could do the piece presented here without practice. You kind of have to divide your brain and learn how to look as spaced out as this guy does.

Cheers.

You are all so ignorant. This piece from Steve Reich is extremely difficult to play alone because each hand is completely independant.

Boring, repetitive, talentless.
I could do this.

OMG who else needs to gouge out their eardrums after listening to this "song"? I mean, I heart pianos, but this is a teensy bit vomit-inducing.

The fact that he varied the meter in each hand was cool, but I got that in the first minute or so. After that, it just got monotonous.

its not that the notes he is playing is difficult, it is what he is doing with the rhythms.
playing the same rhythm that close together on two different piano`s is no easy task. the two sequences that he`s playing are only about a 16th note off of each other. its really hard, despite the repetition.

Why is this even here? Even someone who has never had lessons/practiced could play what he just played on one piano with two hands.

I almost want to say faked, because some of the sounds there are definitely not piano sounds. Maybe they`re processed, or there`s another instrument playing? It sounds like techno.

That`s depressing. He even buggered it up in the beginning. I didn`t watch much of that... the only thing that can be accomplished by playing two pianos is playing the same thing in the same octave simultaneously. Anything else you can just do on a single piano...

Aw, I was disappointed. I was expecting an amazing piece of music with all these intricate parts, or at least different parts. This guy did nothing any other piano player couldn`t do.

Okay? What was that? Just because you play the same thing over and over again on two different pianos does not qualify as amazing. I take that back...it was an amazing waste of time to view it.

Well, at least it does lend new meaning to "piece for two pianos", you know?

Hey, what someone here should do to show him. Find two pieces in the same time signature and key, one written for just the left and one for the right (they do have them, for amputees and such). Anyway, play those at the same time and see how that sounds. Would probably be MUCH better than what he plucked out.

This is extremely boring and not impressive at all. First of all, it`s not even a song. He`s just playing the same few notes over and over again in a different order. Next, it`s not that impressive what he`s doing because actual piano players do use both hands, but even for complicated and fast rythms and chords with both hands. Next, How is it that something could need so much concentration? At some points, he looks as if this is the hardest thing he has ever done.

I may get some "then you try it" responses, but that`s really not that hard. He doesn`t even keep them in sync the whole time.

Striekr217: The fact that he`s able to go from being in time with eachother to being out of time with eachother is NOT skill. Anyone who plays something repetitively for a long period of time, and starts to get a little bit bored, will start goingo ff time a bit. Then, when they realize what they`re doing, they go back in time. Clearly, he was thinking about it a bit more than that, but its still an easy task.

And the fact remains that he was playing the same pattern, the same 5 or so notes, the whole time. Many people could easily have played the same thing on one piano, but different octaves, and it would have sounded better. It only takes a slight amount of extra effort, if any, to move your hands slightly to the side and do it one two pianos.

"Exactly. He wrote a song, moved the lower notes up one or two octaves, and then played it on two pianos. Anyone who can play a piano can do what this video is showing"

Rofl... why do so many people think what he is doing is easy.... I would seriously give anybody 1000 bucks if they could do this.

For all you retards (all of you) let me fill you in on what he is doing.
This is not the composer, it was a piece done by Steve Reich. What you are hearing is a repition of around 12 notes coming from each piano. He is playing the EXACT same thing on each piano. The tricky part, and what makes it sound cool, is that he is slowly moving one piano out of phase with the other one... hence the title PIANO PHASE. So at the beginning he plays both pianos the same, each repitition he starts playing the next part a few milliseconds later, slowly making the phase effect.

God don`t you people learn anything in school.

playing two pianos at once is not any more difficult than playing one, despite not being able to see your hands as easily. The only reason to play two is to play two melodies in the same octave.

Um, not impressed.

It sounded cool for a sec, but I was expecting it to break into some cool fancy song or something. There was *no* variation whatsoever. It was exactly like playing a piano normally, except his hands were off to the side a bit (which is easy). Plus, the patterns he did with his hands weren`t even that special. It just sounded complex because it was in the same octave.

Now try sitting underneath the piano with your hands above your head (facing the bench) and playing Bach`s Musette! I can do it!
(Haha it`s actually not that difficult, but it sounds spiffy). :P

Exactly. He wrote a song, moved the lower notes up one or two octaves, and then played it on two pianos. Anyone who can play a piano can do what this video is showing

For the files, every single person able to play piano can use both hands for independent actions plus both feet to use the pedals.
