whattt?????
the fireworks were CGI?
g0ddammit. that pisses me off.
i`m sick of fake things. horror movies are far from scary now that everything is computerized, and i didn`t even live during the time they had things handmade, i still think they`re better.
so why take away fireworks? they`re awesome.

and also. i find the chinese to be SUPER arrogant. they`re culture is beautiful, but not their attitudes.

uchihakochou,
Stop blaming China`s attitude on looks on communism, the two are completely unrelated. Communism is a system designed so that everyone receives equal pay (if i remember correctly). Communism isn`t evil, no matter what the propaganda said in the fifties.

Also, what country doesn`t judge on looks. The USA does it, the UK does it, France does it, pretty much every country does. There`s a reason why almost everyone on TV looks good you know.

Aww poor thing. Little girls shouldn`t be told they are not attractive. It`s cruel. That girls gonna have a major complex about her appearance later on in life, and this will be one of the reasons for it. Funny though, I saw a photo of the little girl who really sang, and I thought she looked adorable.

true, lipsynching is done all the time...and i doubt this was considered "breaking news" but it`s wrong to tell a child you`re not good on the eyes. that girl is def. gonna grow up with some psychological problems when shes older. it`s not like her family said she was ugly, it was the organizers of the olympics! the whole world is gonna know about it! the whole world now knows shes "ugly."

Dear God. Why is this breaking news????
Do we not have anything better to cover?
We have lip syncers over here in our own country why do we care if they have them?
I dont give a crap if anyone lipsyncs. I think it sounds better on a cd than live performance anyways. I would rather have an entertaining lipsyncer than a crappy singer to ruin my day.

"in the words of john stewart:
MOTHER F&^KER! how DARE they do something we do at the super bowl every year!"

Which is why I dont watch him... Colbert maybe. Although he isn`t as funny as he use to be.

"All of them were 12 or under?
Only two of them are in question and it`s thought they`re 13 and 14."

I think there were a few others. The 20 year old looked ancient compared to them, and there was one that could walk under the balance beam.

"not cool... I sent this one in the other day."
*breaks out Violin

Excuse me, Anish?

STFU you faggoty non-nice individual. Now, the little girl that lypsynched is a `hero` in China, and the girl that actually sung will be sent home ordered to be quiet about it (her family too) under penalty of death.

Same happened when one of the chiense girls wanted to go home (gymnastics). All those girls were no older than 12, maybe 1 was actually 16.

Sad, sad story...

Trust me, looking at the Chinese gymnastic team...those girls are below 14...and even that is too young. I wouldn`t be surprised if they do everything short of beat their athletes...little girls and all...to make sure they don`t make mistakes.

They should pretty much be referred to as the Cheatese for this Olympics.

"the truth is their country hasn`t changed much since the tiananmen square massacre. Their country is ruled by a ruthless regime and that`s not recognized much by the mainstream media."

People turn a blind eye because there isn`t much that anyone can do. It`s not like the UN is going to have the manpower to invade China and initiate forced regime change. China`s military is too big.

Who really gives a damn. Why is it that everyone is just jumping at the chance to criticise China for the same things that everyone does on other occasions? They`re acting as though China took their virginity and never called them back.

"the fireworks werent CGI its just some of them were set off earlier and then broadcasted as live."

Not true. They actually had interviews with the people who did the CG work and showed it on the computers animating and rendering. It was CGI all the way. At least the footprint portions. They even admitted to working on it for months at a time and adding the "haze" (smog) to the rendering of the light to make it look more real from when they video taped the area originally.

"and all of the bs they pulled with blocking internet and phone calls, and several american businesses that were supposed to be opening this past week"

People just keep forgetting that they are a COMMUNIST DICTATORSHIP! The people there have no freedoms. The government rules there with an iron fist and they do a great job of spin doctoring their PR to the rest of the world to make themselves look like such a nice and friendly place in the world while, in reality, the truth is their country hasn`t changed much since the tiananmen square massacre. Their country is ruled by a ruthless regime and that`s not recognized much by the mainstream media.

It`s their culture, I suppose. Yeah it doesn`t seem like the fairest thing, but look at all the photoshopping we do to pretty our own celebrities up. However. she is just a child. But according to her, she was just happy to have her voice in the opening.

Hah like she would be able to get away with saying how much she wished she could be on stage.. yea ok!! Anyway every American thought to win gold has not been destroyed it has been clear for a while that China could possibly surpass us in this years Olympics for a while now. Aside from that did anyone really expect different behavior from this country??

In a country of over 1 billion, you`d think that they could find a "pretty" girl who could sing...oh well, where do you think all the knock off designer merchandise, illegal software, pirated DVD`s come from? China! So this was just one more knock off. No big deal to them...

Old news; it made the wire services several days ago. Indeed, from the link title I expected this to be an article saying that the performance wasn`t really lip-synced after all.

Is anyone really worked up over this? So, the girl wasn`t good-looking enough, they made their decision. There`s a reason Rosie O`Donnel isn`t the highest paid woman on television.

It may not be a huge deal, but I`m still mad. Why does the government get to pick who is and isn`t "pretty"? I`ll tell you. COMMUNISM. So because your teeth aren`t straight, you don`t get to go on TV and show off your talent? I`m not pretty, and people are constantly going to rip off all of my stuff because I made honor roll. So this just kind of hit a nerve. It`s these kinds of things that make me wonder what happened to the world. If we were still like the way we lived before the 21st century, that girl would`ve been able to sing for herself.
Anyhoo, China is teaching the whole world you don`t get anything unless you`re pretty. Sadly, that`s the way most things work. But there are some things the government should not be able to do, like tell you if you`re attractive or not. That`s just wrong.

this whole deal with the olympics is such a load of kcoc it`s not even cool. the fireworks, the singing... every single american [minus Phelps of course] who was thought to be a clear winner has been destroyed by somebody of asian [whether or not chinese] descent. the chinese bikers were allowed to ride the course several times before the event whilst other racers had no practice. I SMELL TIHSLLUB!! and all of the bs they pulled with blocking internet and phone calls, and several american businesses that were supposed to be opening this past week [HomeDepot, a specialty division of AE, and one other i`m forgetting now] have been tied up in the chinese government [if you can call it that...] china needs to stop being fckiung stupid.

“bring some sanity and proportion back to both the opening ceremony and the games themselves.”

In other words... boring

"They allegedly used 14 y/o`s in their girl`s gymnastics team, too."

Allegedly, you mean their documents show they`re 14 but they have a passport that says they`re 16 so its ok. Allegedly my ass, THEY STOLE AWAY MY... OUR MEDAL!

The other little girl wasn`t pretty enough to be seen on television, so they just switched girls, but kept the first ones voice.

Don`t see why its such a big deal.
