"but, mtv still does show music videos.
almost all the time.

they actually have a 8 hour long show called `music videos`..."

Almost "all the time"? Since when is an 8hr block when everyone in the country is asleep/going to work or school "all the time"

MTV used to play videos 24/7. TWENTY FOUR HOURS A DAY. They went from that to the 8 hours of the day when nobody watches tv?
And you say that`s not half bad...no its not half bad.

That`s ALL bad. and sad.

Awww, I miss J.J. Jackson! R.I.P. J.J. You were my favorite VJ.

The only thing that sucked about the very early days of MTV was that there were so few videos that they played the same ones all the time. They were just scrambling to get new videos on the air. The best thing was that it introduced people to so many different bands that they probably would have never known about.

that was a short ass commercial break there were like three 30 second commercials nowadays commercial breaks are like 6 one and a half minute commercials about how some medication helps your arthritis or how "our insurance/cellphones are better than theirs"and who could forget about the commercial with old men singing about viagra

I was there, way back when, watching the first day they started broadcasting.

Yet another great original idea thrown into the sewer by Corporate "think-tanks" and feeding mass consuming cattle, mass consuming crap (sigh).

MTV sucked back then. Music had officially become completely corporate owned and manufactured..it was the death knell of creative bands like Zepplin, B.O.C., Sabbath, Hawkwind, Rush, and all bands with a talented lead guitarist, writers and drummers.

Really MTV was alright up until after the boy band era. Because then, they had like half reality bullpoo, and then they had half videos.

I miss TRL with Carson Daly. =(
What happend to him?

I`m not old enough to remember the launch of MTV, but I do remember how for YEARS it`s main purpose was to play music.

Now it`s a pile of garbage television shows.

Then, MTV 2 was launched to play the music people missed on MTV. It was a God-send until, it too, turned into a pile of sh*t like "my super sweet 16" or whatever stuff they play instead of music.

"So MTV was better back then? >_>"

Yeah, back then MTV was the thing to do, to watch, to talk about. The biggest hits of the 80s debuted on MTV and some were only hits because of their videos. I know that things change but I`m kind of surprised that they don`t still have a video channel. I expected MTV to stick with videos, and then MTV2, 3 etc to have the other stuff like Real World and all that.

Evidently, today is also the day that Anne Frank wrote the last entry in her diary. And some other stuff that I all forgot.

Ok this is very off topic, but what do you have to type to make the censor change it to "i`m a pretty pretty little girl"?

I`ve never been able to figure it out...

"They play music on Music Television??? Since when?"

Exactly. They used to play music videos all the time. In fact that was almost all they did. Music videos, music news, and some interviews. Now they don`t even do videos do they? They need to change the name because it`s not Music Television anymore. It`s Crap Television.

"Your favorite tunes are never far away..."
They play music on Music Television??? Since when?
=====================================

I think the death of MTV was when they cancelled YO MTV RAPS. They use to play music all the time. Once that went away so did the other music.

Well, I cant wait for the Music Television Movie Awards
