Makes perfect sense.=]
I think it take a LOT more faith to believe in THAT, than to believe in the G-d of the Bible.
Wow, it`s late and I am all flustered now.-Center
p.s. the video is quite creepy as well.
Wow. What a sad statement of twisted up bitterness and ill will.
Sounds like you`ve had enough hurt, from an abusive and controlling environment, perhaps? I hope you find some healing for that.
I appreciate you saying you`ve been where I am...you`re trying to "warn" me. Thanks, but you couldn`t be further from the truth. I *was* hurt by "church people". Years and years ago. Their hypocrisy and judgementalism drove me away and I stayed away for about 20 years. So actually, I`ve been where you are...and much further down a twisted path that I hope you don`t follow.
I don`t have time this afternoon to engage in a long conversation...I`m playing at a conference tonight, so I have to go now.
I`m sorry you`ve been so hurt in your past. Christians can be the church`s worst enemy sometimes. Peace.
So you`re a Christian...I kind of figured that from your first post. Look, CCC (my church), isn`t for everyone. There`s always the First Baptist Church down the street. They have blue-haired old ladies, a piano, and hard-backed pews. If that`s not your thing, the Episcopalians up the road have robes and communion wafers. Whatever. Faith is important, not trimmings and rituals. But there`s no reason to get bent out of shape (or "scared" - your word) because we`re doing something relevant as citizens in a media-driven culture (not as outsiders to that culture).
I wouldn`t care for demographic research on IAB, but thanks for asking. There are a lot of anti-Christian vids and comments around here. I just felt like adding something counter to that trend (well, except in your opinion, and I`m sure if you look hard enough someone will agree with you).
Clothing, music, media, whatever...you attacked the "hip", "trendy" aspect as if we were a bunch of idiots dressing up in costumes and playing music we don`t really enjoy in some type of desperately contrived attempt to attract the "lost youth" of our city and "force" them into our "flock". That`s a load of crap.
Oh, I forgot I "promoted" the webcast. Okay...so what? It`s not "another attempt to be cool", though. We have hundreds of viewers around the world at every service. Sometimes more than the people in the building.
I`m not angry with you at all...you are obviously the offendable, excitable and angry one here with a chip on your shoulder. I find it amusing.
This exact conversation is going to be perfect ammunition for the next overly excitable "stylishly dressed" bible thumper I come across.
Good-night, AND GOD BLESS. (oops I let my secret out...guess who is a CHRISTIAN???)
And also, if you honestly cared to do some research on the religious stance of the majority of IAB members insetead of just lump us all together I would love to help you with that... I think you would be quite surprised.
I wasn`t talking about your clothing, I wasn`t talking about your musical choices... I was merely using the music as an example of the constant attempts by people to recruit people to the "flock".
Seriously I didn`t mention fashion at all... I am just so stunned you talked to me about turning on your wife with your trendy dress... what does that have to do with anything?
I would also like to point out, you did promote your silly webcast (yet another attempt at being cool) to the whole IAB community and I quote:
"Also, we webcast every service. IAB is cordially invited (dared?) to join us anytime. Service times are on the website."
So go ahead, get angry because I tried to open up a discussion about the videos. That just further perpetuates the bias people all over the world have for religious zealots like yourself and thi
So...I enjoy IAB. It`s a fun site with fun links, and I`ve been a member for a few years also. I just get fed up with all the anti-Christian bias sometimes.
My church doesn`t "try" to be hip, cool, or trendy. This is not a "mask" we wear to trick people or "talk to them at their level". This IS our level. We are real people and this is how we are. I wear hip & trendy clothes. Not to attract you or "reach out" to your generation at your level...but because it turns my wife on and I like the rewards of that. I certainly won`t apologize for not being pious enough to suit you. You say it scares you. Good. You
Those three are just a small but amazing examples of what the word of god sounds like when the people spreading it aren`t trying so hard...and are just "doing it".
I have a very hard time listening to anyone who thinks they can personify a cultural movement and or generation by slapping a "cool" sticker on it and calling it things like "Un-Church" and "God`s foot solders".
Do you honestly think any truly self-aware, free thinking 15-25 year old wants to be spoon fed a watered down version of the movement they are a p
I am not going to sit and bash on any religion nor will I tell you which one I belong to... but I do have to say, your churches very weak attempt at being hip, cool, and trendy scares me. Why try and force people to listen to the word of god by "talking" to us on our level? Those videos wreak of falsity and awkwardness. I watched all of the links you posted, and honestly they scared me.
People in a lot of churches who are out of touch, older and far from todays "youth" struggle to mask their lack of understanding of modern culture by dressing up a message that they believe is worth hearing in "cheap knockoffs" of the real thing...(i.e. forced hip music)
There are bands with a "hip" sound out there right now that spread the word of god...
Regarding the music...of course the music is near & dear to me, being a musician. However, musicians (especially us guitarists) are a dime a dozen. Good music and good songs don`t make a church or provide anything truly substantial. Even the Hillsong leadership will tell you flatly that the music is NOT all they are as a church (that`s just a very visible ministry of theirs). The music is worship, and it isn`t for the people, it`s for God. It`s contemporary because we don`t live in the 1700`s anymore so we threw away the hymnal.
Oh, and church people turned me away from God for nearly 20 years. I still don`t like most "church people".
Nearly every religion has it`s good/kind people, BUT there is way too much blood on organized religions hands. I just don`t want to be a part of any of them...good examples or not.
I`m better behaved than 99% of "christians" and I claim no religion AT ALL. I don`t (never even tried something) smoke ANYTHING, get drunk, curse, etc. I`ve never gotten in trouble with the law. I`m happily married, have a beautiful baby girl..and I work hard for a living.
I`m the person I am without organized religion. There is too much brain washing and mailable people to feed into it in this world.
What we need is better parenting and teachers in this world. A bit more intelligence might help too.LOL
You know it`s funny, I`ve been to religious presentation where they go into all this stuff about we all get addicted, get into trouble, sin a lot, are tempted....well, what about those of us that don`t do the things yo
Apparently you can force it
I do let people do their own thing. It isn`t a matter of me "letting" or trying to force anything. I`m just pointing out that all Christians are not spastic holy-rollers.
This is our youth group. I love these guys, and I wish I`d had their passion, courage, and mentorship when I was a teen. Check out www.escapeaverage.com to see what they`re about.
I know there is an extreme atheist bias here, but let`s at least show some non-lame Christians worshiping.
Also, here`s what I did for the 4th of July:
(Yes, that`s me...even though the mirror tells me I look awesome, the camera tells me I need to drop about 20)
Anyway...yes, we`re a real church. We live in a modern and tech-savvy world and we use media to its fullest extent. Yes, Jesus approves.
Also, we webcast every service. IAB is cordially invited (dared?) to join us anytime. Service times are on the website.
Jesus is such a pimp.
wtf could happen in 20 sec?
yea and im white btw
..or is that down? or sideways? ah, well, regardless, i`m still not going again.
that is hinting that Obama is not black. Although it could be the song choice, maybe if it was a different song or a different setting he would be yelling "YOU GOT SERVED"
on to the vid, what the hell... it was funny when the one convulse-r fell over the other but, in the end, I`m just confused
"absolutely nothing to do with this but, watching the olypmics and hearing that this japanese (kijatima) guy is the greatest breast stroker in the world made me giggle.... *cough*"
Nice... and Phelps is still beating him. and its kintajima
