"I see. And the fact that it`s complete bull$hit and you are a fraud and a charlatan taking sick people`s money doesn`t bother you in the slightest?"

Was this for me (I hope not). I am a photographer not a therapist although many people find looking at photographs therapeutic (although I must admit looking at these ones wouldn`t help!).

We professional photogs shoulder the weight of heavy cameras all day along and over time the body accumulates much of pain from the daily grind. As I`ve said in the post, it`s hardly necessary to have cupping done all the time when a good strong massage suffice. Cupping is used in addition to massage at the discretionary advice of the masseur. It is not compulsory, they do not force it on their clients and you most certainly can refuse it.

My blog (SHIMWORLD) picked up quite a bit of traffic from this site so I decided to drop in and say HI :) Yes, I am planning my next cupping session in the next couple of weeks at the same place I`ve always had mine done. And NO, the pain is not because they "did it wrong" but rather the pain is typically caused by the "amount of wind" that needs removing hence the bigger the cups used, the more intense the pain.

I don`t know why people pay so much attention to the pain instead of the good that cupping brings. And the non-Chinese practitioners of cupping are very worried that my photographs "give the wrong" impression and scare their potential clients away. I report as it is and Chinese believe the use of pain to alleviate pain. The English speaking community knows this as "fighting fire with fire" or "tit for tat"

I remember my mother went to a licensed Vietnamese Doctor to get Cupping done. It actually lifts some of the muscles in her back to let fresh blood flow to the area where pain affects her the most.

Nice way to blow your money... that`s all there is to it. There is no research done to see if this is actually effective. You feel great due to a combination of placebo effect and your body realizing that you are being harmed and releasing endorphines. Save your money and punch yourself in the arm for a while while watching Mr. Miagi from karate kid and you`ll get the same effect.

Yeah. All the points I was thinking of making were made already but I`ll add it in there anyways.

Not only in Arabia.
Done in Eastern Asia.
Done to increase the blood flow to the specified areas.
Not actually as gross as it may seem.

=/

I had this done to me when i was a young boy.
Not only in Arabic cultures but in Mediterranian and Chinese cultures as well.
It doesn`t hurt really.
It was done to me by my grandmother to draw out a high fever and it does work.

When they removed the cup from his back, there was this large bulb of what looked like coagulated blood. Was that what it was?

Well, I guess I have to start explaining things. This was used in western medicine as well as all other forms of medicine we know. Phlebotomists used to do it here in Canada. Even Gwyneth Paltrow had it done. I do this using traditional Chinese methods and the purpose is circulate blood and remove pathogens. It actually feels like a reverse massage if done properly, and it can be very effective for varicose veins. http://metroacupuncturenyc.com/Blog/

Norwish-

Quote from that article...

"The glass cups that were used on me were large ones and the vacuum created from each of them was, from memory, intense! I have a high tolerance for pain but even so, I was on the edge of screaming to have them removed. It was that unbearable."

Of course, he goes on to say he`d do it again...but where is the wonderful sensation you were talking about? Haha

Eww is /that/ what it looks like?

I used to get that done all the time; I have some spine problems. Anyways, it just feels like somebody grabbing and/or pinching your skin. The bruises afterwards, however, are quite awful looking. But you`re left feeling quite wonderful. =)

wth? remember that post with the kid and when he skated, he just kinda exploded, it seemed like, and all of his limbs were everywhere and his face was all creepy and bloody.

well this vid somehow reminded me of that.

i don`t get this at all. i was txting someone and i looked up and was like "WTF!?" only, ya know, with words.. o_O strange...

O man.
How is that kid not, like, screaming his head off in agony?
Though there was that one time I suctioned a bottle-cap to my face and I didn`t feel a thing...
Still, he was bleeding all over the place!
Who came up with this?!

wow. in western medicine, we call that hemorrhaging. thats really bizarre. On a related note, I once had a glass bottle stuck to my face, and it started to bleed a little. It left a bruise o nmy face for about two weeks.
