Link: 2nd `Fish Baby` Born Within One Month in Turkey - It`s called congenital ichthyosis, a rare chromosomal abnormality. What`s in the water in Turkey?

Oh those poor babies. They don`t live long, and they`re in terrible agony because like BlackiPod said, their skin is cracking.

    I can`t even watch this video... :(

Yeah I`m with BlackiPod. That doesn`t look like a "fish baby" more like a baby with cracked skin.
Before I saw this vid I was in an OK mood. Now I`m sad =[ When that lady started talking I was waiting for a translation. I was disappointed.

oh and a couple in england have two kids, both harlequin babys. Ones like 18 or something and ther others a little younger and they elad pretty normal lives with friends and all. The 18 year old has to get up at 5 in the morning though and bath herself in water and cover herself in moisturiser if she wants to make it to college in time for 8-9 am. THey were on the jeremy kyle show last week. such a little trooper *sniff*

During cases like these were babies are born with some horrible disease are you allowed to have them euthanized so they dont have to suffer?

^PandaCookies- No, at least not in the US. Euthanizing is considered murder still. Personally I think it`s BS, Who gave the government the right to tell people whether or not they can live or die? I think that there should be paperwork and a process to it, but the option should be available to aware, adults.

Well that`s where it gets touchy clever-chan, look on page 1 at what andrewgaynor said. What if they had been euthanized? Better or worse? poo I don`t know.

This would be so much easier if I believed in god. Cause then I could just say; "All in all it`s ok, because they go to heaven and everything is nice for them!" but I don`t believe that. Death is SOOOOO much worse to me now.

Why oh why didn`t I take the blue pill...

Clever, I think if we`re allowed to kill animals who are suffering and we know will suffer right up to their death, then humans should be allowed to get that treatment too. I never understood why doctor assisted suicide is such a bad thing.

And I kind of thought calling the baby a fish baby was a little... insensitive? No, then I sound like a hippie. Mean? Weird? Yeah, weird.

that looks to me like the single most painful disease in the world. I looked up an article and the only real treatment is Isotretinoin, also known as Accutane the strongest acne medication availible. There is actually a full grown man with the disease who became a triathlete.

Opie: There was a French woman who made the same argument. She was in dire pain, and she asked doctor after doctor to help her die, but they all said no. So she took matters into her own hands.

The real sad part was that it took her death to really start stirring up change. But I forget if they really did change the law or not.

The condition is called congenital ichthyosis and yes is a rare abnormality HOWEVER, it appears to be most common when the FATHER has a history of psoriasis. And by psoriasis, I don`t mean 1 or 2 small patches, but severe psoriasis or a family history of psoriasis.

Most Harlequin`s don`t live to birth and those that do, usually do not live long due to a) extreme pain b) dehydration, c) bleeding.

There are a few cases of people born with this that do survive, but the majority do not. It is a very rare abnormality.

If I knew my baby was going to end up like this - I`d abort. For sure.

Well bacteria causes Harlequin disease, so I would suggest not touching the water. But then again, the reason why the water is this way; is because there are people washing, drinking, pissing, pooting, even putting dead bodies in that water- all at the same time. So, perhaps, these people need a better understanding of bacteria and what not to do.
Poor child. I hope the baby does not survive, for the sake of their own sanity- "normal" children can be so cruel.
