The cop arrests a 13-year-old kid! What is up with that? So skateboarding is a crime after all?

his friends kinda wussed out on him, they had vidoe evidence saying that that man hit him with a board, they would leave but not allowed, the cop provoked the kids but didnt get a responce so he arrested one in america that should get a cop fired or suspended! i dont blame them though, they were scared and tried to letget the cop to let him go

At least in the end he said "No, I`m taking you home"
Makes it a bit better, trust me, I know being in the back of one of them, and getting dropped off at home instead of the department is a hell of a lot easier to deal with

First of all - this 13 yr old kid was never "attacked" ( as the title of the video states). Second, actually the adults in the video showed quite a bit of restraint. The teenagers all deserved to have their collective asses kicked! Simply for being disrespectful douche bags! Enough said!
You don`t have a cop for a dad. That position puts stress on your shoulder and it feels like your arm is gonna brake. Doesn`t look like it hurts, but it can.
I like how you only defend that point, but ignore the other points I made.
And sure, maybe the arm lock hurts, but it should not hurt more than necessary, unless you`re struggling. The more you struggle, the more it hurts. Same with handcuffs. Handcuffs should not hurt at all, unless you`re resisting. And I wasn`t really saying the kid wasn`t in pain, I was just saying that his yells of pain sounded acted.

@EvilPanda: The kid smirked at the cop, the cop said come with me I`m taking you home, the kid resisted and got cuffed for resisting.

You don`t show disrespect to the police. DUH. You do that and they can arrest you. The kid got off easy being taken home to mommy and daddy.

Plus the non-nice individuals were trespassing on private property and disrespecting the owner when told to leave. DUMB. Stupid.

@Fo: I`m sure they realized it was private property, but it was an almost empty parking lot. They weren`t near cars. And I`ve watched the video about 8 times now to see where he says "Don`t do that again." He said it, but not for going up the ramp. He said it generically for them being there skating in the first place.
@Fartacus: What directions did the kid not follow? He was getting up, TO LEAVE.

Anyway, at this point I don`t care to agrue anymore. It doesn`t change what happened. It doesn`t matter.

The kid was not arrested. The cop took him home to make a point. Let mommy and daddy beat some sense into him.

And the kid was cuffed for not following directions from the cop. You cooperate or you get restrained.

Those kids were really drating bratty though.

Is it just more or are some of the comments getting cut off at the last few characters? I know I have less than or equal to 1000 characters. It happened to my fourth post above as well. Anyways, I hope that people can read through these last few posts and realize the extent of the situation. If you can`t, well, I`ll just stop here before I make a fool out of myself.

@Evilpanda: when you see a sign that says "No Trespassing Violators Will Be Prosecuted", what the hell do you think it means? You can trespass and then just leave and everything is all right? No. There doesn`t even have to be a sign, but my point is, if the owner wished to pressed charges, he could have. If you watch the video, the owner says something to the effect of: "If you do it one more time I`m calling the authorities", or something like that. Then what does the kid do? He skates back onto the ramp. The owner has the right to press charges and keep the kids there if he wishes.

It all comes down to good old common sense: if it isn`t yours, then don`t use it without permission. Friends of mine skate all the time on private property (or their own property, which I don`t know why more people can`t do), but they asked the owner first and everything is good.

The police officer did not abuse his power in any way. The kids were putting on a show for less-minded p

well, if u r tresspassing and skateboarding where u aren`t suspose too...then YOU NEED to respect private property and either leave or gett arrested... To many wize ass teenagers who think that their smart assed attitude doesn`t need adjusting. If their parent or parents taught them some manners like they`re suspose to, then a lot of this wouldn`t happen!!

Comparing these kids to "other skaters in vids" is nothing. If that worked, a shoplifter could say, "Compared to that murderer over there, I`m practically a saint!"
The kids were trespassing, and they took property that did not belong to them. They were in the wrong. Argue all you want, but this is true. The cop did not arrest the kid, he escorted him home. There is a difference.
And the kid yelling, "Ow, my arm!" I`m sorry, but that seemed so fake to me. He seemed to be trying to put on a show for the camera and people around him. Handcuffs and arm locks should not hurt unless you are resisting; which the kid did at the beginning of being taken by the cop, if you notice.

@Everyone saying they could have left when they were asked: The fat property owner guy told the kid in the white shirt to "stay here." If you listened to the video he even asked a guy out of camera "Chris" to make sure he stayed. The rest of the group didn`t want to abandon their friend so they stayed to. It looked ot my like they were going to leave when the old guy took the ramp away. When the cop arrested the 13 year old, all the kid did that seperated him from the group and got him a ride home was a little grin. I would have grinned to, I meen, seriously, I just wouldn`t be able to help myself. The cop, while being allowed to take the kid to his parents, abused his power in a sense by singling him out for something so stupid. And to the people who said they were being disrespectful and such: They said they would leave. They didn`t swear the guy out. The didn`t really fight back. Compared to the other cop vs skater vids, they were almost like saints.

I can understand where people are coming from when they say cops are corrupt, etc. Indeed, anybody with power has the ability to become corrupt, and when you add the gun & the authority to ruin lives it worsens. Of course, everybody will point out the horrible police officers and never stop to think how many are good and honest.

Also, I wish that skepticism could be applied elsewhere. Why do we blindly accept so much abuse of power among other branches of government? It`s because we see direct cause & effect with our direct contact with police officers, but not so much with other "Public Servants" swindling and taking advantage of the taxpayers.

Kudos FoTower! Thanks for posting!

We are on the same wavelength here. I usually don`t post unless it is something I feel can contribute to a civil debate or educate someone.

In this video, it`s simply common sense. There`s nothing hard or outlandish about, "Hmm. I don`t own this. My parents don`t own this. I don`t have permission....I probably shouldn`t be here." The sequence of events following is surprisingly tame considering, as FoTower said, the comments & the subtitle`s use of "attack".

Nice to meet you FoTower! :)

I read the comments before I watched the video, and by the sounds of them I was expecting the cop to actually beat the living hell of the kid. When I did watch it, I was taken aback by how nice the cop actually was. Are some of you serious with your accusations? I mean seriously, if some of you believe that the kid`s rights were violated in any way, or fell for the kid`s act of his arm hurting, please for the sake of everybody else, go back to school.

I could easily rant on and on, but I think I made my point. Those that read this probably won`t be changed in any way, but maybe it`s just that one person, and if it`s only one person, my efforts have not been wasted.

Thanks for reading.

First off on a more general note: I have read many comments and just been thoroughly disgusted with the lack of halfway decent grammer and mechanics (not even mentioning spelling here, that is a WHOLE other problem). How hard is it to seriously type out a comment that is halfway legible and sensical?

Anyways...

I dont like to profile, it`s not a good habit to get into. Regardless of whoever it is, the kids were skateboarding on private property, which is illegal unless given permission by the owner (which they apparently did not have). The cop told them go home, which is a nice gesture and he doesn`t have to do this. After giving the boys a chance to leave, the kid later handcuffed and put in the car gave the officer a smirk of some sort. The officer is well within his rights to handcuff the kid and put him in the cruiser. Saying the cop is at fault (above) is completely wrong. All the kids have to do is ask for permission to skate there. If the owner says no, that`s that.

Oh & to Primetimekin, the gold standard is not a necessity. Ron Paul does endorse it, but has also stated the main reason why: lack of backing COMBINED WITH no control over production. The Greenback Dollar had no backing, but there was a limited amount in circulation. Oh well, I`ll save that for another time ;)

While the kids did not cause bodily injury, it was said they damaged cars and stole the trashcan, etc. Regardless, they were on private property.

It is truly sad that our country has lost its way so much that a child "genius" cannot comprehend Property & Common Law, even as being innate common sense. It was important enough to actually be enumerated in our Constitution.

The Founding Fathers had skateboarders in mind when they did that. ;) Also, for the record, I was in college at 17...with braces..

Alright... made the mistake of reading comments. ;)

Take the cop out of the equation. What do you have now?

Well, if you let those in charge of the property take it into their own hands, then they might beat the crap out of the boys. Certainly, the kids would walk away without skateboards.

Those kids would probably retaliate with damage to property.

Fortunately, the police are there.

I understand that the boy didn`t have to be detained. But, that was an option available to the officer. He was not detained simply for "smiling," as some of you have characterized it. He was taken home in a cruiser to emphasize his crime of trespassing and for lacking respect for the law that is simply there for his own health, safety, and welfare.

There is a difference between what this officer did and what others have done in online videos I have seen. Don`t lump them together, or you`re diminishing the crimes of those officers who truly do go over-the-edge.

If I had my way I`d make skateboarding illegal for persons under 21 punishable by death. Every time you see these teenie boppers rolling around on their skateboards it`s always either A: Private property or B: Public property but law states no skateboarding allowed.

These skate boarding kids always give the cops an attitude, if I was the cop I`d have tazed the gonads off the kid. "Oh oh you`re hurting my arm!" Yeah ok kid make a scene for the video camera the only people buying your sob story about your arm hurting are your mommy and daddy or stupid people.

I`m writing this before I read any of the comments, `cause I`m just gonna get annoyed and end up responding to all of the "pig" and "abuse" rants.

Those kids, obviously lied to those adults when they first approached them. They`d taken the private property and used it to build a ramp. Had they said they were sorry for being stupid and walked away, everything would`ve been fine. But, they were disrespectful.

Police get there and they try to argue. He was being firm but fair with them. Then, the little boy acts like it`s a joke, and the officer decided to take it to the next level.

No matter if the cop was right or wrong, the kid should`ve just gotten in the car. He didn`t, so he got cuffed.

Nobody was ever in danger from the cop. The danger they were in, if there was any, was from the owners/custodians of the property.

The law enforcement handled this perfectly, as far as I`m concerned. The kids gave skaters a bad name (although I`ve seen much w

First off, the kids shouldnt have been skating there, but the cop then told them to leave, they left, and the cop detained that one kid who kept saying "i`m leaving (dude?), im leaving", but the cop kept saying "No, you`re trespassing"....

But there was no need to call the cops. Im sure big belly number one could have dealt with them himself, or at least THREATEN to call 911 first.

He wasn`t arrested, the officer said several times he was taking the kid home.

They were wrong. If it`s private property, they had no business doing that. The owner had every right to call the police and they knew it. Sorry, but kids always try to give stupid excuses to get out of trouble. They knew they were wrong. They knew they shouldn`t be there. The kid in cuffs was laughing and joking about it, the officer wanted him to see it wasn`t a joke. He could have arrested him but he didn`t.

I think the officer would have let him go too if he hadn`t been acting like a little prick.

The officer did absolutely nothing wrong. The kids were tresspassing, had effectively stolen property (the material to build their crappy little ramp), and were under suspicion of damaging other property. The kid who was cuffed wasn`t on-screen until just as the officer reacted, which makes it impossible to know what he did to trigger the cop. He then resisted an officer by trying to pull away, which is a crime in and of itself. The officer used only enough force to restrain him and put him in the car. If the kid`s arm was really hurt at all, it was only because he was struggling. Frankly, the kid was getting off light by just being driven home and probably getting the grounding of his life.

I know there are some bad cops out there, but this guy wasn`t one of them. It`s stupid kids who need to learn that owning a skateboard doesn`t make every piece of pavement or cement your own personal playground.

I cant believe the people defending those kids... The kid wasn`t arrested, he was detained which the officer can do since they were trespassing and under suspicion (at least) of damaging property... then theres the fact that, despite what some of you seem to think, they were in no way even close to polite. the kid ran into the ramp purposefully after the guy picked it up, then they were all disrespecting the owner or legal user of the property. Its really sad that that kind of behavior from young kids is seen as acceptable these days...

Well, the kids weren`t doing that much. The sheriff shoving the kid was out of line and he could get in major trouble for it. He`s just a kid. Knowing people in law enforcement personally, I`d say those kids were innocent. They were willingly going to leave, but the guy wouldn`t allow them to. In a way, he`s the one at fault. He was basically keepin the kids against their will so they would continually be "trespassing" when the shrriff got there. Officers like this make a disgrace of law enforcement. They are the people who cause terms like "pigs" for officers.

This officer needs to get a handle on how to hold his small penis before being allowed on the streets. Making an example of the local youth instead of being a law enforcement agent with a level head is never a good idea. Laws differ in states but, there are general principals shared. The officer should have issued a verbal restraining order not permitting the teens on the property in the future providing that was the wish of the owner/manager. He just burned a bridge with the community which makes his job more difficult.

I can see myself in that position. Of course, I would of been as uncooperative as possible even though it wouldn`t exactly help the situation. :D Where I live the cops wouldn`t come out though. They avoid as much work as possible, always making up crappy excuses, though I won`t go into detail.

"But I do think the cop picked out one individual and `cornered` him, which wasn`t right because they were all complying with the officer`s orders."

The kid probably made a smart mouthed comment or something. Really hard to determine say what exactly triggered the officer`s reaction from the viewer`s perspective.

Actually, libertarians do support the police. We`re not anarchists. We just believe in a governments that abide by their respective Constitutions, and we believe in the People`s right to enforce the Constitution. If I have a right to my private property, i.e., no skateboarders allowed, then the police are doing their job enforcing non-evasive laws. Meaning, those kids infringed upon my rights, and the police correct it. That`s all...

I don`t know if this was mentioned, but...
The cop kept saying to the kid in handcuffs "I`m taking you home, I`m taking you home."
No arresting there.
But I do think the cop picked out one individual and `cornered` him, which wasn`t right because they were all complying with the officer`s orders.

In a true Libertarian, there really wouldnt be a need for publicly funded cops.

Which is awesome. Every cop where I live is crooked.

No your not stupid just misinformed. Almost all of the cop videos show just one perspective, that of the kid you never see videos from the cop`s point of view. So its unfair just to hate cops because of the videos you`ve seen that are probably edited to make it seem like the cop is being unfair

Oh, and the cop was well within his duty. The kids broke the law, and they`re lucky they weren`t all arrested. They should know better. There is simply no respect for people or for their private property. When I have kids, they will definitely be raised with a Libertarian view...

Sure, there are plenty of videos of abusive cops...
There are also plenty of videos of criminals.
And of abuse in nursing homes.
And this same "more accepting" generation of which you speak...I believe you mean the one that keeps killing in school, posting videos of fights online, enlisting in gangs. FYI, a LOT of gangs are race-based.

Keep on keepin on.

I have to agree with zerocyde The cop wasn`t doing anything wrong, he was just escorting the kid home. Its not like he hurt the kid, he was just using the necessary amount of force to put him in the police car since he was resisting. Nothing wrong there just a guy trying to do his job.

You`re confused, being a skateboarder isn`t illegal... its "being a teenager who gets to hang all day having fun while I have to hold down a lousy job to pay for a fat wife, impossible mortgage and in-laws bills" that`s illegal. Way to go Kojak, take it out on the nearest person smaller than you that`s having fun! That`s what makes the world go around.

Yes, the kids were doing wrong.
However, the cop went way overboard.
He is doing this based on age, to set an example and feel high and mighty for the day because truth is, a cop with enough time to take a kid home who was already leaving, likely doesn`t have mush of a job on that force anyway.
I have no problem with cops who do their jobs right, it`s the idiots who likely just got their new big fancy gun who go on a power trip and think they own all.
I`ve dated a few cops, all idiots, notice `dated`.

When will non-nice individual cops learn not to bully kids with cameras.

Ehh, drat it. Go ahead and hate cops. One day most of you will look back and go; "Wow, I was drating stupid..." And if not, then we will be seeing videos of you on IAB with the word "Darwin" somewhere in the title.

Either way, me arguing this now is like telling a 6 year old that he will one day like girls, there`s no convincing them.

@CaptainPat

You can do plenty to stop a bad cop. Last time I was arrested the cop that was "escorting" my brother-in-law out of the field started slamming his face into the ground even though he was just lying there doing nothing. The cop was just pissed because they had to wade though water to catch us. While I was in jail I filed a proper report and he got suspended without pay for a month.

Hating cops is just drating childish. Life isn`t about skateboarding in parking lots. If you don`t understand that, then you`re in the wrong.

Um, he didn`t get arrested, the cop is just escorting him home, and will probably talk to his parents. It`s policy to put hand cuffs on anyone who sits in the back of the police car. If he had actually been arrested, the cop would have stated why and read him his rights.

Well, the kid probably rolled his eyes or something.
Maybe the cop thought taking him home to his parents would wake his parents up to discipline him more.

The only thing that makes me lean to the kid`s side, is because he WAS leaving and was only 13 and probably scared sh*tless.

No, I`ve seen them all. And yea, some of them are non-nice individuals, but you know what? Some teenagers are retarded ignorant trash. In fact, I`d put a lot of money on the fact that there is a greater percentage of ignorant trash teens than there is of non-nice individual cops.

So should I just assume from now on that everyone with 13-17 next to their name is an ignorant piece of poo? By the logic of the people around here, I should.

I never really understood why people don`t hate skateboarding. It`s like arresting me for wearing poofy skirts and platform mary janes. It`s just something some people do, and have every right to do. Those kids seemed quite even tempered and the cop did not need to manhandle that kid. Though I do admit, they should at least go to a skate park...

the cop did nothing wrong, he had the right to arrest anyone there he wanted for trespass laws. and he didn`t even arrest the kid, just cuffed him and drove him home.

the kid can do his little cries about how much his arm hurts all he wants but most of it was when he was sitting in the car.
