You don`t show disrespect to the police. DUH. You do that and they can arrest you. The kid got off easy being taken home to mommy and daddy.
Plus the non-nice individuals were trespassing on private property and disrespecting the owner when told to leave. DUMB. Stupid.
Anyway, at this point I don`t care to agrue anymore. It doesn`t change what happened. It doesn`t matter.
And the kid was cuffed for not following directions from the cop. You cooperate or you get restrained.
Those kids were really drating bratty though.
Good point. Citizen`s arrest. He detained them on his property. I wonder what state this was in....
Error from above: Is it just "me" or are some...
The kids were putting on a show for less-minded people to bandwagon.
Is it just more or are some of the comments getting cut off at the last few characters? I know I have less than or equal to 1000 characters. It happened to my fourth post above as well. Anyways, I hope that people can read through these last few posts and realize the extent of the situation. If you can`t, well, I`ll just stop here before I make a fool out of myself.
It all comes down to good old common sense: if it isn`t yours, then don`t use it without permission. Friends of mine skate all the time on private property (or their own property, which I don`t know why more people can`t do), but they asked the owner first and everything is good.
The police officer did not abuse his power in any way. The kids were putting on a show for less-minded p
Also, I wish that skepticism could be applied elsewhere. Why do we blindly accept so much abuse of power among other branches of government? It`s because we see direct cause & effect with our direct contact with police officers, but not so much with other "Public Servants" swindling and taking advantage of the taxpayers.
We are on the same wavelength here. I usually don`t post unless it is something I feel can contribute to a civil debate or educate someone.
In this video, it`s simply common sense. There`s nothing hard or outlandish about, "Hmm. I don`t own this. My parents don`t own this. I don`t have permission....I probably shouldn`t be here." The sequence of events following is surprisingly tame considering, as FoTower said, the comments & the subtitle`s use of "attack".
Nice to meet you FoTower! :)
-Sorry, I don`t know how to properly quote on this site
This is what I am talking about. You, sir, need to get your head out of your @$$. Our police force is what keeps our nation running smooth, without anarchy. If you don`t appreciate a police force, then go try and live in a country that is plunged into anarchy. Try Darfur or Iraq, I hear they are wonderful vacation destinations. I`m sorry for the language, but it`s comments like this that really make me wonder just how people can think suc
I could easily rant on and on, but I think I made my point. Those that read this probably won`t be changed in any way, but maybe it`s just that one person, and if it`s only one person, my efforts have not been wasted.
Thanks for reading.-Fo
I dont like to profile, it`s not a good habit to get into. Regardless of whoever it is, the kids were skateboarding on private property, which is illegal unless given permission by the owner (which they apparently did not have). The cop told them go home, which is a nice gesture and he doesn`t have to do this. After giving the boys a chance to leave, the kid later handcuffed and put in the car gave the officer a smirk of some sort. The officer is well within his rights to handcuff the kid and put him in the cruiser. Saying the cop is at fault (above) is completely wrong. All the kids have to do is ask for permission to skate there. If the owner says no, that`s that.
I would also like to say it is refreshing to read comments like sgdp`s above. She hit on almost everything i wanted to say, but there is a bit more that needs to be said.
It is truly sad that our country has lost its way so much that a child "genius" cannot comprehend Property & Common Law, even as being innate common sense. It was important enough to actually be enumerated in our Constitution.
The Founding Fathers had skateboarders in mind when they did that. ;) Also, for the record, I was in college at 17...with braces..
Oh, and thanks to saintnick. Like-minded people are fun to find! Wee!
Take the cop out of the equation. What do you have now?
Well, if you let those in charge of the property take it into their own hands, then they might beat the crap out of the boys. Certainly, the kids would walk away without skateboards.
Those kids would probably retaliate with damage to property.
Fortunately, the police are there.
I understand that the boy didn`t have to be detained. But, that was an option available to the officer. He was not detained simply for "smiling," as some of you have characterized it. He was taken home in a cruiser to emphasize his crime of trespassing and for lacking respect for the law that is simply there for his own health, safety, and welfare.
There is a difference between what this officer did and what others have done in online videos I have seen. Don`t lump them together, or you`re diminishing the crimes of those officers who truly do go over-the-edge.
These skate boarding kids always give the cops an attitude, if I was the cop I`d have tazed the gonads off the kid. "Oh oh you`re hurting my arm!" Yeah ok kid make a scene for the video camera the only people buying your sob story about your arm hurting are your mommy and daddy or stupid people.
Welcome to the world of politics my friend.
Those kids, obviously lied to those adults when they first approached them. They`d taken the private property and used it to build a ramp. Had they said they were sorry for being stupid and walked away, everything would`ve been fine. But, they were disrespectful.
Police get there and they try to argue. He was being firm but fair with them. Then, the little boy acts like it`s a joke, and the officer decided to take it to the next level.
No matter if the cop was right or wrong, the kid should`ve just gotten in the car. He didn`t, so he got cuffed.
Nobody was ever in danger from the cop. The danger they were in, if there was any, was from the owners/custodians of the property.
The law enforcement handled this perfectly, as far as I`m concerned. The kids gave skaters a bad name (although I`ve seen much w
My friends and I where skating in public and where told we had to stop so we did. And we STILL got thretened by the cops and almost arrested.SUCH BULL.
But there was no need to call the cops. Im sure big belly number one could have dealt with them himself, or at least THREATEN to call 911 first.
They were wrong. If it`s private property, they had no business doing that. The owner had every right to call the police and they knew it. Sorry, but kids always try to give stupid excuses to get out of trouble. They knew they were wrong. They knew they shouldn`t be there. The kid in cuffs was laughing and joking about it, the officer wanted him to see it wasn`t a joke. He could have arrested him but he didn`t.
I think the officer would have let him go too if he hadn`t been acting like a little prick.
How did the cop go overboard? The kid was trespassing and rude so he brought him home to his parents. That`s no overboard at all. That good policing.
Hopefully the kids parents will be able to teach him some respect and maybe he`ll learn that he can`t break the law, just because he feels like it.
on topic, cops are jerks, althrough i do like the fat ones that say top of the morning to me ^-^
I know there are some bad cops out there, but this guy wasn`t one of them. It`s stupid kids who need to learn that owning a skateboard doesn`t make every piece of pavement or cement your own personal playground.
im sorry, i know theyre just doing theyre job, but most take too much advantage of their power. they suck. sorry zerocyde. everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
I am really amazed right now. They had been asked to leave possibly causing damage to the premises...
You almost converted me. I`ll stick to republican..... and ron paul is crazy with the whole Gold currency thing... but I do like his views on the IRS
The kid probably made a smart mouthed comment or something. Really hard to determine say what exactly triggered the officer`s reaction from the viewer`s perspective.
In a true Libertarian, there really wouldnt be a need for publicly funded cops.
Which is awesome. Every cop where I live is crooked.
Keep on keepin on.
When will non-nice individual cops learn not to bully kids with cameras.
Either way, me arguing this now is like telling a 6 year old that he will one day like girls, there`s no convincing them.
Bon apetit little punk.
You can do plenty to stop a bad cop. Last time I was arrested the cop that was "escorting" my brother-in-law out of the field started slamming his face into the ground even though he was just lying there doing nothing. The cop was just pissed because they had to wade though water to catch us. While I was in jail I filed a proper report and he got suspended without pay for a month.
Hating cops is just drating childish. Life isn`t about skateboarding in parking lots. If you don`t understand that, then you`re in the wrong.
Unfortunately, I-A-Bs transformation into a Digg.com-style website has attracted the unwashed, illiterate masses.
The only thing that makes me lean to the kid`s side, is because he WAS leaving and was only 13 and probably scared sh*tless.
No, I`ve seen them all. And yea, some of them are non-nice individuals, but you know what? Some teenagers are retarded ignorant trash. In fact, I`d put a lot of money on the fact that there is a greater percentage of ignorant trash teens than there is of non-nice individual cops.
So should I just assume from now on that everyone with 13-17 next to their name is an ignorant piece of poo? By the logic of the people around here, I should.
No? Why the hell should I? Every drating day it`s the same ignorant childish crap. What if a bunch of people showed up at your favorite hang out and started acting stupid? Wouldn`t you be mad?
exactly what i was going to say
What crotchety old men. When people like them reach a certain age, they should be carried to the top of the Green Mountain and left there to rot or something. :|
When you`re skateboarding on someone else`s property and they don`t want you to! What the drat is so hard to understand about that?
What the drat is with EVERY SINGLE IAB poster and cops? Are you all honestly this ignorant or is it just some kind of inside joke?
DYURRRR I HATE COPS CUZ COPS R DUM LOLlo! Jesus drating poo it`s like I`m back at drating high school!
Sorry, not thinking straight.
I never really understood why people don`t hate skateboarding. It`s like arresting me for wearing poofy skirts and platform mary janes. It`s just something some people do, and have every right to do. Those kids seemed quite even tempered and the cop did not need to manhandle that kid. Though I do admit, they should at least go to a skate park...
the kid can do his little cries about how much his arm hurts all he wants but most of it was when he was sitting in the car.
