Look, people that over eat do lose weight, just look at how well the diet industries are doing. So, you can`t just say to someone "go on a diet" or "stop eating so much". Its those types of ignorant comments that do little to nothing. If anything is going to work, its about educating yourself or someone else on how to actually loss weight. Diets DO NOT WORK and ridiculing doesn`t either. Its about knowing how your body functions and dealing with it on its own terms. Its as simple as that.
^^Actually this isn`t true at all. You can consume fat, but you need to know that every 1 gram of fat is going to equal 9 calories, where 1 gram of carbs and 1 gram of protein is going to equal 5 cals.
The "REAL" problem is when you can`t burn all the calories you eat in a day. This is when you begin to gain weight as your body begins to store it for later use. This is the fundamental problem. Its not about Fat, Carbs or Protein being better or worse then one another. Its simply about intake, energy for daily use and storage.
What complicates things, however, is these diets. This is simply because when you excessively cut back your intake your body assumes that it needs to go into survival mode. As a result, your metabolism slows down and begins to hold back on the energy that is being eaten daily. Its these diets that really complicate the problem of over eating. BMI was invented around 1840 if I`m not mistaken, and we`re still using the same numbers today as they did around 200 years ago. Do I need to say more?
BMI works just fine to calculate obesity. Its the best way to do it, infact I don`t think there IS any other accepted way.

But, I`ll agree with those calories... counting the calories is probably the best way to do it.

Nice, it sounds like you`re an educated consumer. The key to fixing these problems in the market, though, is not the government`s business (I`m not saying you suggested that), but if more people were like you and educated themselves instead of relying on the government to discern right and wrong, we wouldn`t have this problem. In fact, the HFCS problem is caused by a government restriction on importing sugar. It`s so expensive because there is so little of it, that they have to resort to it. If the government lifted this restriction, the market would probably demand cane sugar or beet sugar and the companies could put it out with little price change.
Atkins didn`t know why his diet worked and assumed it was the lack of carbs making the body burn fat but this was in fact complete bs. I hope you all learned something today.

I never was into the the whole hippie take on freshly home grown food, but after doing a lot of research its growing on me.
They`re an especially nice thing for women, because it`s harder for our bodies to lose weight than it is for men`s bodies :p
although i have to disagree when people say diet pills don`t work because they worked for me. they really do help but only as an added boost. not in place of exercise or healthier food.

It wont kill you to wait an hour to eat!2) Sex..lots of it! 3) Get a dog and walk it daily!4) Walk, dont drive your fat lazy ass to the local shop to pick up a 6 pack.5) Stop eating crap between meals. Put down the bag of chips and step away from the ice cream! 6) Only go to the gym if you want to be buff...if you happy being slim stick to points 1-5!

I agree with everything this guy in the vid says BUT the thing about calories. The number of calories in soda is equal to that of an apple. But the calories in the soda is empty. So you can drink a can and be under budget but you won`t be eating healthily.
Trust me, that`s not the case. BMI is not a good measurement for an INDIVIDUAL, but across an entire population? I think it`s pretty accurate.
And the answer is: Increasingly sedentary lifestyles.
